[Canon EF] Having own the original version (wt hood modification) I can say that the new Milvus is better than the original ZF.2 for starters it is sharper in the corners, weather sealed and a removable hood. I shoot some IR photography and although the original lens was great for IR this versions produces a very bad hotspot. Overall is a a fantastic UWA a great improvement over the original version.

[0.55 lb] Just pick one up. This lens is just outstanding. Tack sharp, no sun flare. Outstanding clarity, contrast and resolution. I traded in my nikon 14-24 and will never look back. This lens makes the 14-24 look like some cheap kit lens.

[0.55 lb] This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.


Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.



Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.


I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.

[0.55 lb] There is little published information regarding which filters to use with this lens. I can confirm that—as tested on a Nikon D810—this lens is completely compatible with the LEE SW150 II filter system. The filter holder attaches to an adapter which is sold separately. For this lens, the required adapter is the 95mm screw-in type. The adapter fits the lens correctly and the focusing ring is still accessible. The LEE filter holder is obviously designed for LEE filters, but any filter of this standardized size will work. I use the LEE circular polarizer, but I use NiSi neutral density and graduated neutral density filters (they are made of glass and are more color neutral and affect sharpness less than the resin LEE grads). There is no vignetting at any focusing distance at any aperture. Tested on a tripod-mounted D810 in controlled lighting conditions.

Aside from that, the quality of this lens is as good as every internet reviewer has ever said. The build quality is unparalleled. The weather sealing actually work. The colors, contrast, and flair control are exceptional. The image sharpness is razor sharp when the lens is stopped down (and also excellent wide open).�

Focusing manually is no challenge because of the very short focal length, though you will always get the best out of it when focusing from a tripod in live view. Again because of the short focal length, shooting hand held in most lighting conditions is quite easy.

You will not regret buying this lens.

[0.55 lb] I got these as an upgrade to the Rokinon lens set I had, and they are crisp and look fantastic! I also plan to use them on a Movi type rig, and the light weight is what sold me on these over the competing Sigma and other brands.
I am keeping the Rokinons for when a client prefers the super soft mushy background look, the overall softness of those lenses will work for those folks.
But when I want a crisp clean image with a reasonable fast lens, I'll be using these. I

[Canon EF] I absolutely love the CP.3 lenses. The 85mm is an absolute Beauty. Having a compact, lightweight, well designed, and optically beautiful lens is a huge selling factor for me. I don't buy lenses that aren't build well and these are tanks. Zeiss did an incredible jobs redesigning these. I highly recommend. I use them on the Red Komodo and will soon try them out on the Red Raptor, although I know they will work great with it. Definitely a must buy or rent depending on your job or project. Worth every penny

[0.55 lb] Perfect for my landscapes. Crazy, ludicrous, sharp. 85mm is my most used tele lens, Never leave home without it. Tripod and technique pays dividends. Really Right Stuff works very well, and remote with mirror lockup.
