The Grace Design BiX Preamp Acoustic Instrumentsfrom Grace Design BiX Preamp Acoustic Instrumentsis a floor-mounted preamp intended for use with acoustic instruments. It features many of the same audio-performance benchmarks of its bigger siblings—the FELiX and the AliX—though with a streamlined layout of controls. You'll find four knobs on the preamp, which allow you to set the gain, shape the EQ of your instrument, and dictate a level for boosting signal. To instantiate this boost, a footswitch is provided, giving you the ability to add up to 10 dB of gain to your signal. The other footswitch mutes the BiX.

On the rear of the unit you'll find a 1/4" input, two additional 1/4" jacks for patching in an effects loop, an unbalanced 1/4" output, and a transformer-balanced XLR DI output for use with mixers, PAs, or recording devices. You'll also find a 9V power jack. Made in the USA, this preamp should fit into your pedalboard with ease.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this mount to a microphone stand ? Pics would be nice. Thanks.

A: The Grace Design SB-BLRA comes with a 5/8 -27 thread stand mount adapter for use with a mic stand.

Q: 2. How do you plug this into your MacBook Pro for listening to music? My late-2013 MBP does not have a "mini-USB" port. Thank you for your help!

A: The connection to your Macbook would be USB-A, the Micro-USB 2.0 connector is on the Grace Design m900 DAC. 2 USB 2.0 Type A Male to Micro Type B Male Cables are include in the box.

Q: 3. Are the cables removable/replaceable?

A: Yes."Specially modulated connecting cable (detachable) made from highly conductive OFC copper, with very-low handling noise"

Q: 4. Does the HD650 come with a set of replacement earcups?

A: No they do not,

Q: 5. Hi I have apollo twin x (Quad) and i have buy preamp GRACE m101 . Should I have Converter between these two equipment? If yes What is it the best converter for voiceover and for this equipment??

A: A converter is not necessary. Simply come out of the 1/4-inch TRS balanced output to the 1/4-inch portion of the combo input of the Apollo Twin X Quad. It is important to send the signal into the Apollo as a line level signal, to take advantage of the Grace preamp.. A Pearstone PM-TRS 1/4" TRS Male to 1/4" TRS Male Interconnect Cable (6'),BH #PEPMTRS06 would be a good choice for a balanced cable.

Q: 6. Is this HD650 comes with black or silver drivers? There is a sound quality improvements with the silver ones. Thank you very much!

A: All the critical parts I can see on either side are silver/metallic. There is plenty of black plastic in there, too, but it all looks like structural support for the silvery parts. I took off the earcup padding and thin foam cover, but that's as much disassembly as I feel safe doing.

Q: 7. External DAC drive these like Cambridge, well I still need a headphone amp?

A: If the DAC can handle 300-600 ohm headphones, then you would not need amp amp.

Q: 8. Originally, Sennheiser HD 800S were made in Germany. I heard the new production had moved out of Europe. Where are these made now?

A: The Sennheiser HD 800 S Dynamic Open-Back Stereo Headphones are still made in Germany according to our system.

Q: 9. Must i use it only with amplifier or it good works with directly PC soundcard?

A: Most PC sound cards will not drive these 300 Ohm headphones. Use a headphone amplifier.

Q: 10. Is this the older model that comes in a silver box or the newer one that comes in a black box?

A: it came with a black box

[2.4 lb] I was using a Mackie 800R into a Digi003 to record before buying the Grace M101. I mostly record acoustic guitar tracks. The difference is dramatic. I get a very open spacious detailed sound with the Grace compared to the Mackie. It's well worth the price. The criticism i've heard is that the Grace is extremely accurate and doesn't color the sound in the way the other pre's can. This is exactly what I wanted So I'm very pleased.

[2.4 lb] this is the best preamp value on the market that ive found.....used a avalon in a friends studio, and owned a ua la-610 in my own studio....both of these preamps are 1500 dollars or more, and are not as clean and crisp sounding as the grace designs preamp....and where other preamps take a degree to figure out how they work, and take a LONG TIME to get set to prefrence, this little gem is SIMPLE and very EASY to fine tune....for under seven hundred dollars, this is a professional preamp needed to make the leap from home studio to professional turnkey studio, and buy it from BHPHOTO, they are the best

[2.4 lb] All of the equipment and software I have purchased I never woke up to learning how much difference a pre-amp at this level makes. Instruments: Bass guitar, lead guitar, acoustic guitar - it is amazing the fullness it pulls out of these instruments, and that is fullness with headroom. A great addition for voiceovers. Now on the microphones: tested on our condenser mics (Schoeps and AT 4053b) and our Dynamic (Beyerdynamic, Shure) mics. It is hard to put into words the differences. Present system: ProTools, Focusrite Saffire 56, ArtPro Channel pre's, Presonus pre's. This is a game changer investment. Spend it here before you drop the extra $ on the mic.

[2.4 lb] I am well pleased with the Grace Design m101 mic preamp. I recorded vocals & guitar using the AKG C3000 through the Grace Design m101 then into my Apogee A/D converters. WOW! The m101 is certainly the most transparent mic preamp, in the price range, that I have heard. The signal to noise ratio on this unit is extremely high. I did a recording in a noisy room, using the microphone close to sound source and the recorded signal had very little ambient noise. Moreover, the signal that I captured through m101 sounded clean and full. It accurately represented the sound source.

[2.4 lb] I use these with MXL 603s's. Now it's time to look into better mics and a sound-insulated room. I tried no mics and got much much less noise, then 100 ohms across the signal pins and got even less noise. Didn't measure the noise; merely listening, with headphones, to the output amplified by a Panasonic HDC-Z10000. I like the idea of the rotary switch, instead of a pot, for the gain control. It has a pot for the trim control, so it has the best of both worlds. Construction is very good with high-quality connectors and controls. It's pretty cool to have a five-year transferable warranty.

[2.4 lb] I'm using the Grace Design M101 to boost my Sure SM7B mic. It plugs into a UAD Apollo Twin Duo X Thunderbolt which plugs into my MacBook. I do conversation level voice recording for online course creation.

I get more clear gain than I need for my mic, which outputs notoriously low signal.

If you're in the market for an outstanding preamp and are OK with the price, this is an option worth exploring.
