The Datavideo RMC-185 KMU Controller for Video Productionfrom Datavideo RMC-185 KMU Controller for Video Productionis a physical controller designed specifically for control of the KMU series 4K multi-camera processor. The RMC-185 interfaces with the KMU-100 via an RS-422 interface. This dedicated controller allows operators to make smooth zoom and pan/tilt motions by using the joystick. The four presets hold scale, position, motion path, and speed of all four individual 3 Gb/s outputs per channel. The buttons allow start/stop/reset of motion in a predefined speed for every individual output.

Q: 1. Can it be upgraded to 8 channel?

A: There is no official way to "upgrade" it to 8 channels, you would have to add separate additional hardware or replace the whole switcher with an 8 channel switcher like the Datavideo SE-4000 (BH #DASE4000).

Q: 2. I can use this unit combining digital sources (such as PC or professional cameras ) and analog sources ( such as old cameras , recorders , analog outputs of the GoPro cameras ) ?

A: The Datavideo SE-1200MU has 6 video inputs, four of them are HD-SDI and two are HDMI. Each input has frame sync so you can use a variety of different cameras and even a computer with an HDMI output can be added as a source. You will also be able to connect older analog gear to this unit, you will just need converters to change the signal to HD-SDI or HDMI. Q: 3. Does this have a program out on 1080P?

A: Yes, it can do 1080p on program out.

Q: 4. Will this switcher properly handle 1080p29.97 from cameras like the Panasonic AW-HE40 over SDI? I understand its a 1080i product, but isn't 29.97p sent over SDI like interlace?

A: Hi James, the SE-1200MU switcher cannot accept 1080p signals through SDI. It can accept 1080p 60 or 59.94 through HDMI input. Thanks!

Q: 5. it can use with mac and window?

A: The control software Datavideo offers for the SE-1200MU switcher is for PC only. They do not offer Mac based software.

Q: 6. Can I use an ordinary LED display with this unit? Would an ordinary LED monitor split as shown in the image above?

A: Hi Wizarts,Yes, you can use a generic HDMI monitor for a multi-view display. The switcher is outputting a multi-view display, so any HDMI monitor that can support HD resolutions is compatible to use with the SE-1200MU.

Q: 7. 4K UHD video at up to Will this switcher properly handle 29.97p, HD up to 59.94p, MPEG HD up to 59.94p, and AVCHD 2.0 up to 59.94p?

A: I'm afraid not. The Datavideo SE-1200MU accepts 1080i at 50, 59.94 and 60fps along with 720p at 50, 59.94 and 60fps.

Q: 8. Will this support controlling a PTZOptics PTZ camera over IP?

A: Yes, the Datavideo RMC-2 Joystick Camera Controller should be able to control other camera brands that use VISCA over IP Protocol. PTZ Optics cameras will support this Protocol. However, we recommend using PTZOptics controllers with PTZOptics cameras because of their level of support if a setup problem does arise. Q: 9. Will the audio come through on the sdi inputs and be transmitted on the output sdi or do you have to have the use the audio mixer?

A: The SE-1200 MU can only accept external audio using the analogue XLR inputs on the rear panel.

Q: 10. Does the mixer have HDCP issues? I have a Sony mixer and when I connect my laptop to it with PowerPoint, the signal is scrambled because of HDCP. In order for me to run a signal to my Sony I have to convert the signal using a processor which is very annoying.

A: Datavideo does not list this switcher as HDCP complaint. You may face issues connecting it with HDCP devices.

I stumbled upon this tool while browsing for other accessories and it took some considerable time to take a chance considering the price. Glad I went with the controller. It works great and when I shoot video on a tripod ... this gets connected. Makes the task so much easier. Would be lost without it. 5

[4.85 lb] This is perfect. I use it with my Canon XF300' It does exactly what I want. Turn recorder on and off, zoom in and out. I really did not need a controller with all those other features such as focus, frame, iris etc. For the money you cannot go wrong with this. Plus, if the cable brakes (as did my old one from Canon) you can simply replace the cable. Great product. 5

[4.85 lb] Of all the various zoom controllers I've used, this is still my favorite. Not to mention I've had this exact model for over 8 YEARS and it still works great even with all of the play it has developed through countless zooms in and out. 5
