Building on the success of the well-regarded CP.2 lenses, ZEISS CP.3 15mm T2.9 Lens Canon EF Mount Feetoffer the same full-frame sensor coverage and classic ZEISS look in an updated form factor and with improved mechanics and lens coatings. This 15mm Compact Prime lens is derived from the same classic optical formula as the preceding CP.2 variant and shares the same physical length as the 18, 21, 25, 28, 35, 50, and 85mm CP.3 lenses while maintaining identical focus and iris gear positioning with the entire set of CP.3 lenses, relative to the mount. All CP.3 lenses also share the same 95mm front diameter. Similar physical attributes across the lens line makes fitting lens accessories such as matte boxes, follow focuses, lens supports, and lens control motors easier and less time consuming.

Another feature handed down from the preceding CP.2 lenses is the interchangeable mounts. This lens comes with a Canon EF mount installed. Though, if you wish to fit your CP.3 lens to a different camera, the lens mount can be swapped by the user for a separately available mount of a different kind. If you like the bokeh in your images to be round, even after stopping down, you will be pleased to know that the 14-bladed iris, made famous by the CP.2 lenses, has been retained.

ZEISS CP.3 15mm T2.9 Lens Canon EF Mount FeetWhile the CP.3 lenses are designed for a degree of user-serviceability regarding the mount, for ideal performance and calibration, B&H recommends that mount swaps and other lens adjustments be done by a trained lens technician at a service center.

Zeiss lenses are known for their clean and crisp image rendering. The CP.3 series of lenses is no different. This CP.3 lens will accurately color-match to other Zeiss cinema lenses inside and out of the CP.3 range. The CP.3 lenses feature improved lens coatings and anti-reflection masking over the CP.2 range for increased contrast and reduced flare, important for capturing content with the intent of an HDR-format release.

For enhanced ergonomics over the previous-generation CP.2 lenses, the CP.3 lens barrel has been reshaped to be more similar to the renowned Zeiss Ultra Prime lenses. This new shape is easier to handle, and takes up less physical space than the original Compact Prime design. An even weight distribution ensures that these lenses will be at home handheld, locked down on a tripod, or flown on a Steadicam or motorized gimbal.

[Yes] There is little published information regarding which filters to use with this lens. I can confirm that—as tested on a Nikon D810—this lens is completely compatible with the LEE SW150 II filter system. The filter holder attaches to an adapter which is sold separately. For this lens, the required adapter is the 95mm screw-in type. The adapter fits the lens correctly and the focusing ring is still accessible. The LEE filter holder is obviously designed for LEE filters, but any filter of this standardized size will work. I use the LEE circular polarizer, but I use NiSi neutral density and graduated neutral density filters (they are made of glass and are more color neutral and affect sharpness less than the resin LEE grads). There is no vignetting at any focusing distance at any aperture. Tested on a tripod-mounted D810 in controlled lighting conditions.

I hope that helps for anyone unsure of how this lens can be used with filters.

Aside from that, the quality of this lens is as good as every internet reviewer has ever said. The build quality is unparalleled. The weather sealing actually work. The colors, contrast, and flair control are exceptional. The image sharpness is razor sharp when the lens is stopped down (and also excellent wide open).

Focusing manually is no challenge because of the very short focal length, though you will always get the best out of it when focusing from a tripod in live view. Again because of the short focal length, shooting hand held in most lighting conditions is quite easy.

You will not regret buying this lens.

[Yes] I use this coupled with my BMPCC 6K Pro. Like most cinema lenses, this is massive. Be prepared for a workout if you are going handheld. Gearing is very smooth, although a bit stiff if not using a focus wheel. I own all of the cinema lenses and two of the three have decent magnetic hoods, while one does not appear to be as strong. This doesn't affect me as I utilize a matte box. Like most have stated, the lense cover is complete garbage. Pops off for no apparent reason.

[T2.9] Just pick one up. This lens is just outstanding. Tack sharp, no sun flare. Outstanding clarity, contrast and resolution. I traded in my nikon 14-24 and will never look back. This lens makes the 14-24 look like some cheap kit lens.

[15] Having own the original version (wt hood modification) I can say that the new Milvus is better than the original ZF.2 for starters it is sharper in the corners, weather sealed and a removable hood. I shoot some IR photography and although the original lens was great for IR this versions produces a very bad hotspot. Overall is a a fantastic UWA a great improvement over the original version.

[Full Frame] The IRIX 15mm T2.6 Cine is my go-to for shooting in tight spaces, like car interiors. Its wide-angle capability allows for capturing extensive detail in confined areas, making it ideal for automotive shoots. The T2.6 aperture ensures excellent performance in low-light conditions, crucial for maintaining quality inside vehicles.

Balancing impressively on gimbal rigs, it proves to be a versatile workhorse, capable of handling dynamic shots with stability and clarity. Its durable build adds to its reliability, making it a trustworthy choice for demanding environments.

In short, the IRIX 15mm T2.6 combines wide-angle versatility, low-light proficiency, and rugged durability, standing out as an essential lens for producing high-quality, creative shots in limited spaces. It’s a valuable asset for any video project requiring sharp and expansive visuals in compact settings.

[T22] Quality optics and build. Light for a cine prime, and easy to use. Works well on our RED Komodo. Smooth focus and aperture rings. The magnetic filter system is quick and easy. Also have the IRIX 30mm Cine T1.5. We tested both lenses and found no issues. The blue infinity marking really is at infinity and the other markings appear to be accurate as well. The only complaint is the rounded lens cap that comes with the lens. We were told that IRIX is going to offer the better, flat cap they provide with their 30mm T1.5 for this and older models. Kudos to them for that improvement. Overall, this is a surprisingly good cine prime series considering the low price.

[4.15 lb] I've had this lens for a little over one year now and it's basically lived on my Sony FX9 and FX6 since the moment it arrived to my door. The Zeiss CP.3 35mm lens is the perfect size and weight to fit in my backpack for when I need to pack light but packs the same punch as any top of the line cinema lens.

The optics on this lens are just outstanding. Beautiful color renditions matched with a tack sharp image really help get any job done.

I couldn't recommend this lens, or any of the other CP.3 lenses, more. It will definitely always have its place in my kit.

[T22] 15mm on S35 is great. I thought this would be too wide and wished IRIX made a 25 or 35 but actually to compliment the existing 45 they sell this 15 is a good match feeling wide but not super distorted wide. Magnetic hoods are cool, but not so much if you are filming metalworking - all the dust just sits on those magnets. Minor quibble but the lens is great!
