[1.5 dB (1 kHz)] The combo kit is amazing convenience. Screw it on, balance tonearm, and in 15 minutes, it was good to go! The cartridge and stylus work wonders on my old records. No scratch or hiss. Just warm great music!

[800 Ohms] I'd been using my Shure V15 Type IV for so long that I forgot what sounds I should expect to get from a good cartridge. Got a little lazy this time by buying a pre-mounted cartridge on a new head shell, but I decided to start fresh and let someone else do the work (not much work anyway). Running this on a curved arm at the manufacturer's recommended settings, and the result is that it sounds great. Turntable model is an Audio-Technica quartz direct drive. Studied the options that AT offers for cartridge bodies and determined that this one would sound most natural to my ears. I also looked at the stylus architecture before making this purchase. If you haven't upgraded your turntable cartridge in a long time, spend a few extra minutes to determine what works best for the music that you mostly listen to, and the sound characteristics that you prefer. For me, this AT kit was the right decision.

[4.3 x 2.9 x 2"] I have some old 78s that I want to play without ruining an expensive phono cartridge, and this unit is great. The fact that it comes pre-mounted on a headshell makes switching it a breeze.

[0.5" / 12.7 mm] All the music is there! Set it right and forget it. It finds everything in that groove

[Aluminum pipe] Worked very well. Easy to install. Purchased preassembled headshell and cartridge did not have to worry about small connector wires. Old cartridge right channel signal was weak. Corrected my problem.

[4.3 x 2.9 x 2"] I bought this to upgrade the cartridge that came with the AT-LP3 turntable, which I had recently purchased when my old turntable died, based on advice posted on this site. I consider it well worth the price. Separation is better (I like to hear each instrument/voice distinctly) and everything sounds much more natural, especially human voices. In the (very) old days I always bought Stanton cartridges, but those days are over and this one sounds fine to my ears. Warning: if you have an AT-LP3, this headshell does not actually match the AT-LP3, which has a straight arm, so I had to move the cartridge into the headshell that came with the AT-LP3. It's my fault for not noticing that before I placed the order, not a reflection on B&H.

[4.3 x 2.9 x 2"] Just replaced the Shure cartridge on my 40 plus year old Kenwood turntable and it sounds better today than it did then. It took a little break while we were raising our kids. But as our youngest son said dad those big CDs sound great.

[23°] I ordered this AT cartridge and headshell for an old turntable so I could break out the old vinyl. It was shipped quickly, and it looks and feels great. The sound is smooth, and I can finally listen to King Crimson and Procol Harum again :-)

[800 Ohms] I have used many cartridges over the years including moving coil designs, most of them employing an elliptical profile for the stylus, both nude and bonded. Many sounded great but with the exception of classical music and large orchestra compositions in particular. I always believed it to be the nature of the record itself with such complex grooves.


I tried the VM95 as in introduction to the Microline profile and was almost blown away! Much of the distortion disappeared, the bass was noticeably deeper and more defined and the whole sound was less edgy including in the inner grooves. Surface noise was low or not there.


This translates to more popular music of course, and female voices in particular. Amazingly, ssh distortions on some songs virtually disappeared.


I tried this with the intention of upgrading to a higher priced cartridge with the Microline needle if I liked it but truthfully I have no need to do so. It begs the question: Why buy ANY cartridge without some sort of line contact stylus to replace those ubiquitous ellipticals for once and for all? I know that there are other exotic profiles available but I have no experience with them. Highly recommended - an Audio-Technica gem, especially at this price.
