The Porta Brace SS-2 Side Sling Pack (Signature Blue) is an over-the-shoulder, bandolier type sling bag. It has a single shoulder strap which can be worn on either shoulder and is designed for on-the-run action for carrying all kinds of personal accessories. Used by videographers, audiographers, and film makers, it is form fitting, comfortable to wear and easy to fling on for a quick get-away. For extra stability there is a waist cinch strap, which when not in use can be stored in a pocket. It has a padded, non-skid shoulder camera support pad.

The sling pack has an expandable pocket that fits a brick battery and has a slip pocket for small tools. A large selection of pockets will carry: cell phones, two way radios, beepers, tools, batteries, tapes, cable, note pads, flashlights, keys, wallet, watch, rain gear, hand held mics, gloves and more. It has a full zip around body pocket with a secret zippered pocket for wallet and passport tucked inside. Five tool pockets with an elasticized pocket to accommodate up to three video tapes and a full width slip pocket behind. The case has D rings for keys, cords and cables.

Q: 1. How well does this function if you’re shouting a shoulder cam? Is it comfortable underneath the camera shoulder?

A: The Porta Brace SS-2 Side Sling Pack is considered to be very comfortable.

Q: 2. Will this fit a mirrorless camera and a lens?

A: I am not sure but this bag is rather small inside for a camera. It is 9 X4 1/2 X 2 1/2 in the biggest pocket. I would have to guess this isn't the best choice for your camera. B&H has a great selection from Lowpro and other makers for bags that are designed for your type of camera. I am including a link so that you can see all the types. Some will hold the camera with lens attached and 1 or two more lenses plus accesories. Bottom line is I don't think this is the correct bag for your needs.

Q: 3. Anyone fly with this bag? Curious if it will provide enough protection from rough luggage handling.

A: The PortaBrace LP-2 Light Pack Case, Medium (Signature Blue) is designed for shoulder carrying and only has two foam padded compartments. It is not recommended for rough luggage handling.

Q: 4. Does it have any compartment dividers?

A: No it does not. I actually like the Think Tank version, which I also have, better than this one as it does have dividers.

Q: 5. Is this small enough to be a carry on bag? How much does it weigh?

A: No, The Porta Brace WPC-1OR is 11.5 inches x 12 inches x 23.5 inches. The maximum dimensions for a carry on is 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches. The bag would be a little too big for a carry on, except JetBlue, and Southwest Airlines will allow up to 24 inches. The WPC-10R weights 11.6 pounds.

A: Unfortunately no. The Sony FDR AX700 is longer than the available interior length of the PortaBrace SS-MDV1 Messenger Sling for Small Camcorder. .

Q: 10. Is this bag good for the SONY FS7? If not, what is a good recommended bag?

A: It depends what you're planning on doing with the camera really. I do own the case and it is set up specifically for shoulder mounts. I have a Panasonic ag-hmc-80 in it. I use that camera for ENG work so I needed a very fast running and gun case. It works well but has very limited storage for any accessories such as batteries, microphones, or on camera lighting. If you're looking for a run and gun case and or not planning on taking a lot of accessories if It works great. (I have not tried it with a Sony FS7) I will try and load up the consumer photo of the case with my camera sitting in it and you can try and size it up from there. For documentary work I use the Sony FS700 with the pelican 1560 case. The case is fantastic you can even carry a laptop with the included lid organizer. Sorry I could not be more help.

[Blue] Although a bit on the expensive side, this shoulder bag is a must have for news photographers. The wide strap distributes weight nicely. Pockets hold batteries, lav mics, and all the essentials. 5

[Zipper] Very comfortable, didn't take time to get used to. Has a great spot for my cell phone, and room for everything from pens to full scripts. I'm sure I can fit everything I need and more in here. Has two pockets the full length of the sling, 3 closing pockets, 3 slip pockets behind the closing pockets, 2 phone/wireless mic pockets with velcro closures for cords or antennas, probably 7-8 pen or flashlight-sized pockets, and a small zippered pocket inside the main zipper pocket. When hot weather hits I'll see if I regret the extra layer of black material, but this sling has already replaced my blue PortaBrace belt pack and I doubt I'll be switching back. 5

[1.475 lb] I want to first say that I use the SS-2 nearly every night of the year as a freelance news photog, so I have become VERY familiar with this item and can give a fair review. It is truly an amazing piece of equipment. It is incredibly durable and can hold just about anything you need. I'm able to hold a Bescor battery in the large pocket for my camera light, which is the primary reason I bought this. I can put my police scanners either in the pocket on the strap or use the belt clips and stack them sideways on the strap. I've got some extra batteries, earplugs, pen and paper, tapes, flashlight, handcuffs and pepper spray all in this thing. I'm switching over to Porta Brace's Videographer Vest due to one reason. Running with this thing is cumbersome. If you're walking or standing it is very comfortable, but running chasing police down the street is not easy cause it flops around. There is an included waist strap that I've never tried that would probably help reduce the flopping around though. And furthermore, having it on (w/ 10 pounds of gear and not sitting down) for more than about 3 hours can cause some shoulder pain from the direct weight/pressure from the one-shoulder design or back stiffness, and I'm 23. But I'd say that's normal for anything like this. The padded shoulder pad is amazing for shoulder-mount cameras as it helps grip the camera from sliding off your shoulder and adds very comfortable padding. I bought the black one. Overall I recommend this product a full 10/10 and do not believe they could have done anything to make it any better. Buy it. You won't regret it. I'm incredibly picky and still love it. I've used this with a Canon XL-2 and Canon XH-A1s. 5

[1.475 lb] I'm a pro photographer who works on location and use this bag as a second light bag. I keep 2 photogenic power lights 2 reflectors cords tape 5 umbrellas 1 2x3 soft box and speedring and still have room for a third light if need be. I do wish the back pack straps tucked in better into the case somehow. Lots of places to put stuff. I very pleased and the craftsmanship of this case is first class and will last a lifetime. 5

Otherwise Do not wear this in Public, especially not in New York City The 90' are over. If you're a Bodybuilder, or if you're a Hipster, trying to start a new trend, go for it. 5
