Designed for electric guitarists who want to switch between up to four different amplifiers onstage, the Radial Engineering Headlight is a stompbox pedal with one footswitch that allows you to choose between two output paths, and another that lets you either mute all the amps, or route signal through all connected units simultaneously. When toggled to mute, signal will still flow to the tuner output, so you can tune in silence.

This pedal also features polarity switches on outputs two, three, and four; if one amplifier is out of phase with another, tightening the signal becomes as easy as flipping this toggle. Additionally, three ground-lift switches fight against hum and buzz often caused by ground loops.

The Headlight utilizes a buffered circuit path, which in other cases might very well sound too clean; however, you’ll find a potentiometer, which adjusts a proprietary load-correction circuit, effectively emulating the impedance of your amplifier and obviating any tonal issues introduced by the buffered circuit path.

The Headlight uses 14-gauge steel, shielding, and military-spec circuit board in its construction, which contributes to its reliability. These provide protection against stray magnetic fields, allowing the controls and switches to remain free from interference. To accommodate pedalboards, this pedal works with standard 9V connections, thus facilitating easy powering from your typical pedalboard power brick.

Drag Control is a proprietary load correction circuit that Radial Engineering employs inside select products to emulate the input impedance and capacitance of a typical amp. When a guitar is connected directly to an amplifier, the two devices interact as part of a closed circuit. When an active buffer is placed inbetween they can sometimes sound too clear, to the point of sounding sterile. Drag Control counters this occurrence by reintroducing the load as if you were connected directly to your amp.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used with the in wall volume control knobs?

A: In theory, yes, the Pyle Pro PSS6 6 High Power Speaker Selector could be used with in-wall volume controls that correlate with its impedance and output wattage specifications.

Q: 2. There is a 5th front switch labeled Protection. The manual does not address the switch use. What is it's use?

A: I spoke with the folks at Pyle Pro and they said that this is a protection circuit that protects the speakers if there is a sure in power. You probably want to keep it engaged all the time, and I'm not sure why protection is selectable, but that is what Pyle chose to do.

Q: 3. How do you hook this up to a sony 7.2 receiver?

A: The Pyle Pro PSS4 features speaker level inputs and outputs. it would be connected between a stereo speaker output of your receiver and up to 4 sets of speakers.

Q: 4. Can this be used to convert a headphones level signal (DDJ 800) to a pro line level signal (+4dBu)?

A: The Radial Engineering StageBug SB-6 Isolator is not converting or boosting line level signals, but rather converting impedance (Hi-Z to Lo-Z) and eliminating hum in the signal chain.

Q: 5. Does this selector require both channels from an amplifier? I have a Public Address amp with one set of mono outputs (4 ohm minimum).

A: No, the right and left channels are independent. You can use them like two mono channels.

Q: 6. what type of wire connectors are on the back?

A: The connectors snap open to insert the wire then snap shut.

Q: 7. can you play more than one speaker selector at a time?

A: With the Pyle PSS6 you can engage any combination of the speaker selectors, including all on.

Q: 8. Can my input come from my One soundcard and my powered speaker monitors Yahama HS8 and PRESONUS 4.5 work?

A: The Pyle Pro PSS4 4 High Power Speaker Selector is designed for use with passive speakers and would not be recommended to use with powered speakers such as Yamaha HS8 or Presonus Eris 4.5. A product that would work well with powered speakers would be BH #MABKPSMC Mackie Big Knob Studio Monitor Controller.

Q: 9. Is this unit HDCP compliant? I'd love to have it in line with a TV to display a security camera on the TV when the doorbell is rung

A: Yes, this unit is HDCP Compliant.

Q: 10. Can the input form the amplifier be over 100 watt, e.g. 300 watts? So as long as the output is 100 watts on each channel?

A: As long as you are only sending the Pyle Pro PSS4 4 High Power Speaker Selector a maximum of 100W to the left and right amplifier inputs, it will be fine. Make sure you can set a maximum output wattage on your amplifier's outputs beforehand.

[Blue] I replaced a basic attenuator with this Stereo DI and have had great results in dropping from Line Level down to Mic Level. The level knob is such a great addition! As typical with Radial Engineering, this is super high-quality and have no hesitation highly recommending this!

[+8 dBu] What's that on your organ? That's the question I get when musician and regular folk see the CabGrabber on the Leslie Cabinet of our organ. I guess it looks weird and they probably never seen the cabinet mic'd that way. Heard the pastor commenting about how nice the organ sounded....had to shake my head and smile because I knew it was due to how I mic'd the organ with these 2 days before. Easy to put attached and remove. Make sure to get the same brand Boom CG when ordering.

[0.01%] Gear: Agile 3010 SE, 1950's wiring, Seymour Duncan Antiquities, CTS 500K pots Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50X Pretty nifty thing. I made mine into a really compact set up with a 3 ft cable going from my headphones into the amPLug G2. Works really well with clear channels. The effects are fun to play with.

[Steel] This little amp sounds fantastic. I’ve had the best results using an over the ear style headphone but it works decent with my in-ears as well. The battery lasts a good amount of time, it’s easy to use and the different tones I can get are truly satisfying. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this for a recording or band practice.

[9 VDC at 80 mA] The AC30 is great for practicing when others want to sleep. It's very compact and fits in the accessories compartment in my guitar case. Tone is good (not great), and certainly acceptable for practicing. Given its small size, I don't think anyone can expect killer tone. I find the effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) a bit cheesy and don't use them. The volume is sufficient with headphones. I've used it with Sennheiser Momentums (18 ohm) and AKG K240 MkII (55 ohm). I've also tried it with a JBL Charge. I had to crank the Charge to full volume for the sound to fill a small room. But hey ... that makes for a very portable amp solution.

[<-92 dB] Been using this for a few months now. Works perfect for at-home use. I can crank my amps but at a reasonable volume with no noticeable tone loss. Being able to use the headphone port is a life saver because I can play after the kids go to sleep. Haven't had a chance to record with it yet. Last thing to mention... it's beautiful in-person. Looks like a well-designed piece of furniture.
