Designed for bands running backing tracks on stage, the Radial Engineering Backtrack is a stereo audio switcher. It provides two stereo input paths via 1/4" and 3.5mm connections, and handles audio from laptops, interfaces, MP3 players, or combinations of any compatible device.

The Backtrack's dual-input function lets you switch between different musical loops in experimental contexts, though you can also use the unit to run a redundant backup loop; this is particularly useful if you want to minimize the risk of your backing track suddenly dropping out—a fear any musician can relate to at one time or another.

Once you've connected two audio sources to the Backtrack, you can switch between them, or mute them both as you please. Front panel controls are provided for this purpose, though you can also use a JR-2 remote footswitch, available separately.

Level controls on the headphone output let you monitor either input whenever you wish, while a 1/4" monitor output can route sound to powered speakers. For the PA system, you'll find dual transformer-isolated XLR outputs, complete with a ground-lift switch to mitigate any noise, buzz, or hum often associated with ground loops.

Q: 1. Can this product be used with Cat7 ethernet cable and would there be any benefit in doing so?

A: Yes, a Cat7 cable is backwards compatible with Cat5 and Cat6 systems. You can use a Cat7 cable with this product, however there will be no added benefit.

A: No, you cannot us the Radial Engineering Catapult Mini RX 4-Channel Cat 5 Audio Snake and a router to duplicate the signal.

Q: 3. Does this version send a beep through the audio output when it's in pairing mode/when it loses signal with the device? The first version did, hoping this one solved that.

A: No, the Radial Engineering BT-PRO V2 Stereo Bluetooth Direct Box does not send any beep or chime sounds through the audio output when it is in pairing mode or if it loses Bluetooth signal with the device it is connected to.

Q: 4. Maximum Cat5 cable length?

Q: 5. ProAV1 Can this unit output to a laptop's 1/8 microphone input for recording audio from a mixer?

A: No. The Pro AV1 converts consumer input (1/8) to balanced out (XLR) - the opposite of what you want. Radial makes the J-ISO and Pro-ISO that will do what you want. The J-ISO uses a Jensen transformer and is the one you want for studio recording. The J-PRO is good for broadcast use for recording vocal range audio and is cheaper than the J-PRO.

Q: 6. Is the talkback button noisy. Is there any noise when you push it?

A: Radial makes high quality studio equipment for professionals. The talkback button should be extremely quiet.

Q: 7. Will this pass phantom power?

A: Yes, the Radial Engineering JS-2 Two-Way Microphone Signal Splitter can pass phantom power through the main output.

Q: 8. Can this be used to convert a headphones level signal (DDJ 800) to a pro line level signal (+4dBu)?

A: The Radial Engineering StageBug SB-6 Isolator is not converting or boosting line level signals, but rather converting impedance (Hi-Z to Lo-Z) and eliminating hum in the signal chain.

A: Yes, dynamic microphones can be used with the Radial Engineering JS-3.

A: Yes, if you connect a compressor to the 1/4" insert of the Radial Engineering KL-8 Rackmount Keyboard Mixing Station, it would be applied across all four (4) input channels.

[2.85 lb] I use this box to have my lead singer sing through one channel and be able to talk to the band on the second channel through their headphone mix.I have used alot of mic switchers and most tend to bleed into the second channel. This box takes it cleanly in to the second channel. Perfect tool for me. 5

We later bought a second one to use with our portable camera rig to clean up audio from various audio systems we would plug into. It does the job. 5

[-105 dBu] This box was the perfect solution to passively sum two channels of audio into mono. Although they were not needed in my situation, the unit also provides two potentiometers that will allow you to mix two channels into one. The unit is constructed in a sturdy box. The controls feel solid and the unit delivers what is needed. 5

[2.85 lb] Like all Radial products this until could survive just about anything. The ability to select which mics are active, flip the phase and adjust the individual levels make this an invaluable tool for mic-ing tom toms top and bottom. 5

[> +25 dBu] -This SAT-2 has a Tank like build. -The Volume knob size is ok, It's not annoyingly small so no worries. -This is an upgrade (for me) from the BEHRINGER MONITOR1 -The top is cold to the touch always. -- Straight from the manual(About the pad underneath): NO SLIP PAD: Provides electrical & mechanical isolation and prevents the unit from sliding around. * I Have mine on a tempered glass surface, it grips well. -It's also pretty heavy. I Recommend you order yours from one of the listed sellers on the Radial Engineering site for the SAT-2. Obviously I chose B&H, and I am satisfied. Thanks B&H. I Really love this volume control in combination with Morely/Ebtech Line Level Shifter connected to Schiit MODI 3 DAC. 5
