Q: 3. Can this record from a source in from an amp? Also, can you just play a CD.

A: The input source connection to the Tascam SS-CDR250N Two-Channel Networking CD and Media Recorder could accept a non-powered signal from an amplifier's signal output. The SS-CDR250N is capable of playing back commercial audio and data CDs in a variety of formats.

Q: 8. Is CD recording is the same as burning a CD?

A: In a traditional sense, burning a CD refers to the process of transferring file information stored on a drive onto a CD disk. CD recording, as a function of the Tascam SS-CDR250N Two-Channel Networking CD and Media Recorder, refers to writing information to a CD from an external input source connected to the Tascam.

Q: 9. can this record multitrack wav files through Dante directly from a console (Allen and Heath SQ in multitrack recording format) ?

A: To be able to do that, the TASCAM SS-R250N with Dante card would need to connect to a managed network switch. The Allen & Heath SQ series Dante port would be connected to a different port on the same managed network switch. You would also have a computer connected to that managed network switch, with Audinate Dante Controller installed.

Q: 10. Can this recorder normalize (make approx equal) the volumes of different .wav files that you have on an SD card?

A: No, the TASCAM CD-RW900SX Professional CD Recorder / Player does not have a normalizing feature to adjust the volume of recorded audio.

[95 dB (JEITA) ] I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I don't trust wireless mics when I'm not able to monitor the audio so I record interview audio on a digital audio recorder and sync it to the video later in editing. The trouble is the recorder I've been using is kind of bulky and requires microphone adapters that can come loose. The Tascam DR-10X is very small and the XLR connection to the mic feels secure. The audio quality is great and there's no danger of accidentally turning off the recording. In fact, the on/off switch can be a little difficult to operate if you don't have long fingernails. My only suggestion for improvement would be to built the device out of metal instead of plastic. I would pay more for it, and I'm sure others would too.

[9.9 lb] Great machine in a low profile format. All types of analog and digital inputs and you're set to go with default settings. Only negatives...display is small and VU meters pretty bad for a recorder. Unit meant for rack mounting...when stacking, there's no clearance for air...feet are too small.

[1 x SDXC] I love this little guy. Instead of carrying around a wireless rig or running cables everywhere and hooking up a field mixer, I can throw these on lav mics and my boom mic and sync it up later with Plural Eyes. It works like a charm. Great sound quality. My only wish is that they had a clip on the back but not a dealbreaker.

[Rackmount] My first experience with Tascam was a small portable recorder/player. It was very simple to operate and very durable. It was about the size of a portable radio. It endured several years of use for recording our Sabbath worship services and my weekly radio program. When that unit finally gave up the ghost, I chose to go to a more sophisticated model: Tascam CD-RW900SX Professional.

With this unit, I am able to record a studio quality message for both my Sabbath studies and my radio program. Although I do not necessarily need all of the bells and whistles this unit provides, they are there if and when I need them. B&H has been very helpful and responsive in assisting me to solve any problems that have arisen (very few).

My first RW900 unit had a problem that I submitted to a Tascam authorized repair shop in my home state of Georgia. They declared it to have been irreparable. B&H had provided an insurance policy of which I took advantage. After I bought a replacement, the insurance company told me to send the first one to them so they could try to repair it. They did. Now I have two units that give me the same professional quality production. Because of the quality of this unit, I decided to keep both of them. Why not?

[AC Input] The DR-10X is compact and has great sound. It minimizes handling noise compared to having a cable connection to a recorder. My only small complaint is that it takes a bit of getting used to to be able to stop recording and turn off the unit. The dual recording mode has proven very useful -- to have a second recording at -6 dB from the main one.
