Q: 1. Hi, I was curious what size/capacity of L-mount batteries this sled can accommodate? The photo here looks like it can use the larger/higher capacity batts, but the image of this sled on the Sound Devices site uses the smaller, lower capacity batts. Any observations? Many thanks!

A: It works fine with any capacity battery. Just keep in mind that the larger the capacity and physical size of the battery, the more awkward the MixPre may get on a tabletop or a bag, because the batteries stick out so far from the sides of the unit.

Q: 2. Does this work as well with the MixPre-3 II?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the newer versions of the Mix Pre series? I have one, it works well with the Mix Pre 3 v1 but doesn't seem to seat correctly on my Mix Pre 6 II

A: As a better option for the MixPre-6 II, you could use the Sound Devices MX-LMount Battery Sled (B&H # SOMXLMOUNT) which is available in stock.

Q: 4. How many volts and how many amps does it output?

A: Hi Taylor, the MX-Charge power supply outputs 7.5W, 1.5A. If you are looking for a 3rd party solution be advised not all USB-C power supplies will run the MixPre series in full power mode. To avoid low-power mode, the MixPre requires a USB power source that flags that it can output 7.5W (1.5A). Many USB power sources can output 7.5W but do not flag that they can do so - these will cause the MixPre to operate in low power mode (maximum two phantom mics, no HDMI in). Q: 5. Do you have to use two batteries at once or can you use one? Also, what's the estimated run time with phantom for the smaller (2900mh) and medium (5000mh) Sony NPF batteries? Thanks.

A: You only need one battery. I use two just because it seems a bit less awkward to handle. Two of the smaller batteries will run the recorder and a couple of mics all day long.

Q: 8. What L Batteries are compatible? Some are ripped apart by the oversized pins.

A: I didn't want to mess around and went with the Sony NP-F970 battery (even though it is not the cheapest option) with this adapter. It has worked flawlessly without any issues. Two years on the road and we haven't had any issues with power using that battery.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with the new mark II line? Like the MixPre-3ii?

A: Yes it is.

If I got this for a MixPre 3 and a Hirose 4-pin to D-Tap/P-Tap cable, would I be able to power it off v-lock batteries with a D-Tap/P-Tap out?Also, If it was to be configured under a camera with v-lock power could it split and share power to both devices or is there load limits, etc?Trying to run it off a RED Raven, but also have the ability to power it separately off v-lock batteries.

A: Question #1) Yes, that should work fine. The MX-Powersled has a large input voltage range of 9 to 24 volts DC, and can accept power from any source that can be wired to the four pin Hirose DC standard, and supply the 7 to 9 watts the Mixpre 3/6 requires. I have used mine with an NP-1 cup to Hirose cable, AC adapter, as well as a car battery alligator clip cable with no problems. Question #2) There should be no issues with sharing a battery between both devices (with a commensurate decrease in overall run time). As indicated above, the Mixpre 3/6 needs about 7-9 watts to run with phantoms on all inputs, less without phantom.The Mixpre-3/6 is a fantastic piece of equipment that is extremely flexible and great sounding. [USB-C] I use the USB C for power, but the 8AA batt sled is great backup and lasts longer than my current 4XX batt sled. 5

[6 x 4.7 x 2.8"] This is good if all you need is 2.5 maybe 3 hours of recording time (at one time), which fits what I do, plus it doesn't take up much room. You can always stop and replace the batteries, if you need more time, and i use the 3200 Energizer rechargeables. It snaps in the back of the mixPre 3, and has a very snug fit. It is hard plastic, but it does what it is designed to do, and so I'm pleased with it. 5

[6 x 4.7 x 2.8"] If you do any in-house/studio work with MixPre-3/6, this power supply is the way to go. I didnt even realize it existed until I was searching the Sound Devices website for a better field power option. (Side note: I use a 20,100 mAh Type-C RavPower for the field and it works great.) Before I discovered this charger I was using the dual USB Type-A Y cable that comes with the MixPre-3, and powering it with two Apple 12w iPad chargers, which I already had anyway. For $40, this is way cleaner. I read a couple of the comments about the flimsy cable, and mine seems pretty sturdy actually. Maybe they did an upgrade on this at some point into the product cycle. 5

[6 x 4.7 x 2.8"] This is an AC adapter for the Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6. Like the MixPre itself, this adapter is well made and of excellent quality. It comes with adapters for outlets throughout the world. Everything that Sound Devices makes is first rate and this is no exception. 5

[6 x 4.7 x 2.8"] Because of negative comments about battery life on the MixPre 3 recorders, I bought the 8 Cell Battery Sled when I bought my recorder. With NiMH batteries, it looks like I can get over four hours recording time. That’s plenty for me. There isn’t too much to say about the sled other than, it works. It has a surprisingly robust feel considering its plastic construction. Like other reviewers, I was initially confused concerning how to open the sled. I finally realized that there is a small tab at the end to permit it to be opened. A short video or even a picture or diagram from B & H or “Sound Devices” could help alleviate the confusion. 5
