The culmination of a century of experience, Nikon 7x50 WX IF Binoculars Blackbrings together a wide array of technologies and materials to produce an optic that is engineered to provide outstanding performance for astronomy, birding, or nature watching.

Optically, the WX utilizes phase-corrected Abbe-Koenig prisms, extra-low dispersion (ED) lead- and arsenic-free glass, and broadband fully multi-coated optics that work together to correct a wide variety of issues that are intrinsic to roof prism binoculars and produce the richest and most accurate views possible. Views through the WX IF are free from chromatic aberrations and astigmatism, colors are rendered accurately, and brightness, sharpness, and clarity are greatly improved. Added to this impressive performance is a field-flattener lens system that eliminates distortion across the entire ultra-wide field of view—especially at the edges. Its moderate magnification provides a wide exit pupil and a generous field of view that brings subjects in close for detailed observations while mitigating the distracting hand shake common with higher-power optics.

To ensure the sharpest views possible, the WX is built with a helical focusing mechanism on each individually focusing eyepiece. Eschewing the conventional center focusing system not only allows precise focusing for any user, but it also ensures the integrity and longevity of its waterproofing. The helical mechanism moves the eyepieces forward and back without rotating the eyepiece lenses, maintaining a centered optical axis that enables even more clarity and sharpness. An exceptionally wide exit pupil completely covers fully dilated pupils in dark or low-light conditions, while the long eye relief and six-position twist-up eyecups ensure that, even while sporting eyewear, users can enjoy the exceptionally wide field of view without vignetting in all lighting conditions for an immersive observational experience.

Thoughtfully designed for comfort and durability, the chassis is made of a lightweight and impact-resistant magnesium alloy that is wrapped with a slip-resistant protective rubber armor. Ergonomically positioned textured palm pads improve grip and in-hand comfort. To withstand extreme environmental conditions, the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging. For a more comfortable fit in the hand, Nikon employs the Abbe-Koenig prism configuration, which allows for slimmer optical tubes versus conventional roof prisms—without sacrificing performance. The elongated prisms also distribute the weight more evenly to give it a comfortable balance. Weighing in at a hefty 5.3 pounds, some users may experience fatigue while holding the WX during long observation sessions, so Nikon includes a tripod mounting adapter that was specifically designed for this chassis, and which attaches to tripods and heads via a 1/4"-20 mount. For safe transport and storage the WX comes with a hard carrying case outfitted with a custom-cut foam lining to hold the binocular and accessories.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the replacement Nikon binocular for the 10x50 WX IF model?

A: After Nikon discontinued the Nikon 10x50 WX IF Binocular they did not replace it with a suitable replacement. My suggestion would be the Swarovski 10x50 EL50 Binocular (B&H# SW10X50ELG)

Q: 2. I can not figure out which way the batteries go in...or what size (LR43/LR44). Batteries didn't come with mine....or even what they are for ?

A: The model takes 2 x LR43 1.5V Batteries, which should have been included in the Box. It is for the Compass/Rangefinder.

Q: 3. can you turn the rangefinder and compass features off?

A: RANGEFINDER IS IN PLACE BUT NOT A PROBLEM, COMPASS IS VERY LOW IN RIGHT SIDE, BEST UNDER $300.00 CLASS

Q: 4. Why do specs of the Nikon 7x50 OceanPro Binoculars show the need for batteries?

A: I have notified the B&H web content team. No batteries required for this model only the model with a digital compass.

Q: 5. Are these stabilizing binoculars ?

A: No.

Q: 6. Hello, It looks to me like the binoculars are in use. What is his condition? Is it almost new or in good or average condition? Are there any pictures of him? I need clarification. Thank you.

A: The Steiner 7x50 Military/Marine Binoculars are new. All items are new unless specifically stated otherwise.

Q: 7. What size battery does this take

A: 2 LR44 batteries

Q: 8. For stargazing and general use, which would be more suitable: model 575 or 2038?

A: For general use, there is no difference in the two models as both are 7x50. For stargazing, you may want to try the 10x50 model instead. Of course as you increase in magnification you will have to hold steady as the image will jump. I purchased the 2038 for a wilderness trip and was completely satisfied with my purchase. Either way, you won't be disappointed, Steiner binoculars are worth the money.

Q: 9. The product looks and feels great. But I have no idea how to work everything because the generic manual is useless. For example, there IS no center focus wheel, there IS no zoom lever, there ARE no fold down/twist up/pull up eyecups, just standard rubber cups, non-adjustable. So I have no info on how to connect the strap, how to put in the batteries, how to know if there is a zoom, etc. I'll mess with it until I figure it out, but the correct manual would be great. Is there a more comprehensive one on line?

A: I haven't seen any better instructions on line. Just adjust the 2 individual eye cups to your liking and they seem to focus automatically from there. Battery is near right ring finger as you hold the binoculars. Strap holes are near each thumb as you hold the binoculars. Hope this helps.

Q: 10. Is the internal rangefinder visible at all times? Can this binocular be use for astronomy too?

A: The Barska 7x50 WP Battalion Binocular does not have an illuminated rangefinder so it would be difficult to view in low light. They can be used for astronomy too but I would recommend using binoculars that do not have a rangefinder, but ones with more magnification and/or a larger objective lens diameter.

[-6 to +4] With Pacific Northwest smoky seeing conditions worse than Beijing, setting up the telescope has not been a promising effort. A scan of the skies and sky-hopping to establish waypoints to space objects will have to do until the atmosphere clears up. These binoculars serve their function very well, and I know very well from 32 years in resource law enforcement what to look for in binoculars.

[50 mm] I do public science outreach (for disadvantaged elementary school students) in the field of astronomy. Binoculars are great for sharing with users who may never have used optics of any kind; they are simple and intuitive. In this program the binoculars are generally mounted on parallelogram mounts which allows the height of the eyepieces to be raised and lowered for different users, without losing the target. Given that these are generally young users whose pupils fully dilate at night, I was looking for an affordable, durable, comfortable, easy-to-use binocular with a 7mm exit pupil for maximum nighttime brightness. The 7x50 Nikon OceanPros have been perfect for this scenario. Though beefy and heavily armored, the carbonate chassis makes them light. The eye relief is generous so they are comfortable. Center-focus is much simpler for multiple users, especially novices. One added benefit that isn't apparent from the specifications is that these have tremendous depth of focus. That is a significant range of the field in front of the user remains acceptably focused. Not so important at infinity as for astronomy (i.e., all targets are effectively the same distance in focus terms from the user) but a real treat terrestrially. It also helps flatten the field I suspect since these seem to lend accommodation even to older eyes. I am very happy with these binoculars and heartily recommend them to anyone looking for a bright, comfortable, durable, well-corrected, large exit pupil terrestrial or astronomical binoculars.

[17.7 mm] The need was for high powered, quality binoculars that could stand the rigors of being in the field including weather resistance and rough handling. The Nikon 7x50 Ocean Pro Binoculars well satisfies this need. They are very water resistant and do not fog up when transitioning from an air conditioned environment to a hot and humid one. The polycarbonate body will not corrode. The lifebelt neck strap is a clever way to keep the binoculars afloat should they fall overboard. Besides being rugged, these binoculars provide an excellent, distortion free image. Yes, the focus knob is stiff but not unduly so. The captive eyepiece covers are a nice feature. I have owned many binoculars in my lifetime and these are the best.

[17.7 mm] My first binoculars after considerable online research. Seem to be very well made, inspiring confidence. That they are made waterproof would be one factor. Number of reviews mention that center focus wheel is rigid. Not the case. It may be because I bought them towards the end of the product cycle when this known issue might have been addressed. This model is discontinued now and does not feature on Nikon website. The focus is quick and sharp. Only two issues to consider: the weight is heavy, which probably will be at the 50 objective lens size and with high sturdiness of this binocular. The other is when glasses wearers like me fold down the ocular lenses side coverings, the provided two covers of ocular lenses do not fit. So when you take an interval during sight seeing etc you either have to roll back up ocular lenses side covers to put the plastic covers on (bit of a hassle) or you have to pause without putting on the ocular lenses covers. I will check with B&H if it has a larger diameter cover for ocular lens, which I will have to pay extra for of course. The attached objective lens covers are a great convenience. Full marks also to the yellow non-sinkable thick strap. If the binoculars fall into water, it is supposed to keep them afloat. Very much hope will never have to test that.

[Roof] Combining center focus with full waterproofing is a challenge. Most marine binos are individual focus for this reason. I was reluctant to purchase the Oceanpro 7x50s but very glad that I did. This set has smooth and free focus which I really need. We have a wonderfull set of older Fujinon Meibo 7x50 7*30' marine binos. They are individual focus and are so tough to get adjusted corectly that they are always set to infinity. Nothing closer than 300ft is clear. The Meibos are fine for navigating and night sky vewing, but the Oceanpros with more modern coatings and center focus do this and more and do it better. Very bright and crisp from 25ft to infinity. Just to note: my eyes are set close to one another which has the effect of giving the focus knob a bit more access as the binos are folded inward, and my hands are not small. These may not be perfect for everyone but they are for me. Absolutely fun to use. Colors just pop, and the depth of field creates an artistic view. (OK I am a photographer. I'll stop here). The floatation on the strap is a bit wierd, but at this price I can't drop a star for that. Give them a try. If the focus is stiff just realise that they all aren't like that.

[-6 to +4] I enjoy using these binoculars. Rugged and water resistance are good for piece of mind. I definitely recommend these if you are looking for a set that won’t break the bank or break easily.
