A: I use the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head with a Sony 500mm f/4 lens and ILCA-77II camera. It works very well. I looked at the Swarovski scopes and see no reason why they could not be attached to the WH-200 Gimbal Head. All that would be needed is a quick release plate. The Wimberley P40 plate would work nicely. A shorter plate may work but it is better to be longer than too short. I believe you will be quite well pleased with the system. Of course the Wimberley head needs to be attached to a sturdy tripod. I use a Gitzo Series 5 Systematic tripod and it is very well built and sturdy but probably heavier than you need. Your application would probably work very well with a lighter Gitzo Series 3 tripod.

A: I spoke to Wimberley about this topic. The WH-200 was not exactly meant for this, but they do have a solution. With the addition of Wimberleys M-8 plate, you can attach a camera body to the WH-200. The M-8 is a long plate with a built in clamp. It puts the camera in a forward facing position like long lenses are when they are attached. However if you use a camera plate on the bottom of your camera you are stuck in a horizontal or landscape framing. In order to achieve a vertical or portrait framing you really need a L-Plate. So to make this work, you would need a M-8 plate and a L-Plate.

A: I Have no information on the Manfrotto 055XDB, but most tripods came with a reversible connecting screw at the top.The Wimberley WH20 should be attached to the tripod base through a 3/8 screw. If your tripod does have a reversible (1/4 versus 3/8 screw) you should just select the appropriate side as the WH 20 needs a 3/8 screw to installedIf not, is just a matter to buy and install a reducer bushing

A: From their chart the P-50 is the correct plate for the Canon 800mm. I noticed from their catalog and website the BS-100 is a3/8 to 1/4 Brass Reducer Bushing. Most of these lenses have 3/8 and 1/4 mounting holes on the bottom of the feet. I looked and the Plates use 1/4-20 mounting screws and the P-50 lens plate comes with a bushing to use, so all you need to purchase would be the P-50 lens plate.
