Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long will this stay in the air after spraying?

A: Depends on the size of the area, air flow and the desired density. For a thick fog barely a second or two. For a thin haze a bit longer.

Q: 2. Can this be used on lithographs or is there a better product?

A: The label on the container states, "This archival-safe spray is specifically designed for water soluble prints including most dye and pigment inkjets."

Q: 3. I see a lot of inkjet prints that are being displayed in float frames or frameless both without glass. Is this the product to use if that's how I want to display my photos?

A: The Moab Desert Varnish Lacquer Spray can protect prints while being still used with proper archival items in conjunction such as a archival box. However humidity and UV light can still harm or damage your prints with prolonged exposure.

Q: 4. When used on matte paper, does it make it glossy or does it retain matte surface?

A: If you spray a thin layer, it should stay matte.

Q: 5. So, which is it, varnish or lacquer? And if lacquer, is it from beetles or tree sap?

A: The Moab Desert Varnish Lacquer Spray is lacquer based. As for the specifics in the way the lacquer is produced you would need to reach out to the manufacturer directly. Q: 6. Is this product the same as the picture? My bottle received are clear, but in the picture it shows Orange/Yellow.

A: The manufacturer has informed us that it can be clear or in some cases it can be discolored to a orange color. The color does not affect the effectiveness of the product.

Q: 7. Does this product have an odor?

A: Yes, Atmosphere Aerosol Haze Spray for Photographers & Filmmakers has an odor.

Q: 8. Does this set off smoke detectors? Ive used fog and haze machines in the past and innow it depends on the sensitivity of the detector, etc. but was just curious about others experiences.

A: Unfortunately, the answer simply depends on the type of smoke detector that is being used. If an ionisation-type or photo-electric/ particle detection smoke detector is used, it can be set off by fog as they sense the fog particles just like smoke. Heat based detectors should be okay. The issue is you may not know which one you have, or the sensitivity of the particle detection smoke detector. If you are using the item indoors, it would be recommended to give your local fire department a call for assistance. They may either be able to assist you with performing a test to see if the item will be an issue for your particular type smoke detector, and/or if they see that the detector will be set off by the item, they may be able to offer to disable the unit and station a fire marshal or fireman in the venue during usage. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND DISABING A SMOKE DETECTOR YOURSELF. This may be illegal, and contacting your local fire station is highly recommended. Otherwise, I would recommend using the item outdoors in an open area (though you may still wish to contact the fire department so neighbors and passers-by do not think there is a fire and still call the fire department at the sight of smoke/haze/fog). If you are shooting in a public venue, I would recommend simply inquiring with the venue as to their rules regarding using smoke/haze.

Q: 9. Will this spray give additional UV fade protection to a type C print, such as Fuji Crystal Archive?

A: Yes, the Moab Desert Varnish Lacquer Spray (B&H# MODVLS) spray is designed to reduce the amount of UV light reaching the photo upon which its applied. That will lend additional UV-induced fade protection to the print.

Q: 10. Can this be used to clean sticky residue from tapes on the lavs?

A: The Goby Labs Sanitizer Spray for Microphones would not be recommended to remove adhesive residue from lavaliers or other audio cables, as it is designed primarily for sanitization. Products such as "Goo Gone", which are typically found in hardware stores, can serve the purpose of adhesive removal well.

[Haze] Product is excellent, makes matte blacks durable. Only issue with this product is ordering it from a place that has it in stock. I ordered this on a Tuesday and was assured by a sales associate over the phone that it would ship same day or next day. I did not receive a shipping notice for the product until the following Monday. I was told by the associate that it was in stock at B&H warehouse, but when I viewed my order online it said back ordered. Thankfully, I had enough lead time that waiting almost a week and a half for this to arrive didn't disrupt my workflow. Unfortunately, it seems like only one or two online retailers have this on hand to ship immediately. Unfortunately, those other retailer's prices are significantly more than the .EDU price through B&H.

In regards to how far a can goes, if you're coating a 32x40 print and you're rotating it to coat it from four different directions then you'll get about two 32x40 prints per can. I sprayed this outside in a covered area on a relatively warm day with little wind. I also used it under a fume hood and in both instances it seemed to work well.

[Oil] This affordable product is great when a real hazer isn't available on set. By no means it'll replace a real hazer, but for small projects, guerilla style shooting, etc etc, this is a great alternative.

Keep in mind a few things:
1) the haze from this can dissipates really quickly (unless using in a very small room). So would need to spray often
2) it can leave oily residue on hard flat surfaces when used a lot
3) it can set off smoke detectors (happened to me a few times)

[0.77 lb] During this age of infection, it is nice to have an effective sanitizer that wouldn't harm microphones. It's a good idea any time, but necessary now.

[Haze] As advertised. Great little can of haze. You get the look of a hazer without the machine.
