The Plume Wafer Softbox is world renouned for its smooth quality of light. It is the fine details which place the Wafer apart from most other softboxes, both in quality and price. Designed by Gary Regester, The Wafer is considered the very best softbox by many professional photographers.

The Wafer design, materials and construction have been carefully considered to provide the best function and value. Over 27 different premium materials have been sourced from Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. Three different sailcloths are used for the Wafer diffuser, its baffles and the interior ellipses. A special aluminum fiberglass cloth around the flash head helps to eliminate heat and UV damage. The more shallow Wafer profile results from using a combination of an aluminum tent tube with a fibreglass fishing rod. Leather pole pockets reinforce the corners. Inner baffles, rear closures and ring adapters are all interchangeable.

When you look at adjacent sizes in the Wafer lineup, you will notice that many share a common side dimension length. This has been done to allow multiple "banking" of Wafer softboxes. All Wafers store easily in an included compact zippered bag.

The Wafer Strip 100 is the small strip in the lineup. It is an ideal size for small still life applications as well as a whole host of other types of photography.

Plume provides two different "graded" interior baffles for use with every softbox in the lineup. These are designed to provide more even exposure over the entire front face of the softbox.

The Ends of the Rods opposite the speedring ride in leather re-inforced corners. This is a testement to the quality througout.

Unique to Wafer boxes in that every softbox is designed with a more "shallow" profile as opposed to a deeper profile used in most softboxes in the world.

Help to facilitate the shallow profile of the softbox.

Designed this way on purpose so that "banking" of multiple softboxes can be achieved.

Q: 3. I have this softbox and one of the poles has broken. Do you know where can I get a replacement? And a spare?

A: To obtain replacement rods, it is best to contact the manufacturer directly. Please see the following link. http://bit.ly/2AnFUqe

Q: 5. Is there an internal diffusion panel, or just the front panel?

Q: 6. Do I need some kind of adaptor for a Canon speedlite?

Q: 7. Will any / all of the Rapid Box Switch softboxes work with the Westcott Solix with it's built-in speedring?

A: The Solix is designed to work with a standard rod based softbox. It will not work with any Switch or Rapidbox.

Q: 8. To make this work with a Balcar type flash (Paul Buff Einstein), would I need to buy the adapter plus the speed ring, or simply the speed ring. In other words, does the Balcar speed ring simply fasten into the plate that comes with the softbox which holds the rods in place; or do you need to buy the adapter and Balcar ring, which both bolt into the plate that comes with the softbox). So which of these would I need?a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/42626-REG/Plume_SRB_Wafer_Ring_with_Adapter.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/42626-REG/Plume_SRB_Wafer_Ring_with_Adapter.html/aOR: a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/185322-REG/SP_Studio_Systems_SPARBW1_Speed_Ring_for_Balcar.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/185322-REG/SP_Studio_Systems_SPARBW1_Speed_Ring_for_Balcar.html/aOR, does the box come with no ring to hold the rods in place, and you buy the ring that goes with the speed ring for the flash head you are using? If so, will any adapter fit with any speed ring, so you could change from, say, a Bowins flash to a Balcar just by changing the speed ring--and you don't need to buy a second adapter?

A: This softbox would come with rods to insert into the Plume Wafer Ring with Adapter for Balcar and White Lightning, B&H # PLSRB and that would be all you need to attach the softbox to your Balcar head. If you wanted to then use the same ring with a Bowens head, then you can just buy the Bowens S-type Adapter for Bowens and Wafer Softboxes ,B&H # BORD6210to allow that to work. Please see the image below for reference

Q: 9. What is the length when folded?

A: It is 28" when folded.

Q: 10. Is necessary to use the deflector plate with this?

A: You are better off without it. If you photograph the front of the box to see the light pattern, you can see that the deflector plate casts a big shadow right in the middle. Without the deflector plate, and orienting the flash so the beam width is parallel to the long side of the box, and using the WA diffuser on the flash, the light is nice and even.

[3.64 lb] I just used my new wafer plume, and am jacked about having replaced the old one. This is a sturdy, high quality product, and I love the low profile for use in tight lighting locations. My older Wafer Plume was still doing the job, but since the earlier models have a fixed front panel, it had gotten too aged & warm colored over time. Its nice to get a new clean box.

[Yes, Removable] I use this for portrait and fashion, great for studio and location. Comes with a small carry bag. Quality is great, what I like about this softbox is that it can be used many different ways. For example you can use it with or without the front diffussion for a different look. Also the internal baffle has a special pattern of little dots which make the lighting more even than a conventional softbox. If you are starting out in studio photography get one of these with a lightools grid, then you will have a very directional light that is easy to control in a small studio. Quality of light is awesome compared to bowens reflectors with grids.

[Yes, Removable] I own about 7 of the Plume Wafers in different sizes. I have used them since about 1990 and they really hold up well if treated right. I have had a few of the aluminum rods break and got replacements promptly. Over time the scrim material may have yellowed a bit but with digital it doesn't matter as I correct color in post processing. Other than a few broken rods most of the travel cases have deteriorated but that's over a lot of years. Plume offers a special trade discount price if you want to upgrade.

[Yes] Photography is all about light. The quality of light Wafer puts out is stellar. It has this velvetness, silky falloff and even illumination (no center hotspot) on the subject face that makes the overall complexion stands out. I have many softboxes, but none gives me the robust built and light quality I demanded. In use, this Wafer is light weight, easily put up and the tension of its thicker rods stretches its front diffuser panel taut and even. Did I mention it is also shallow, great for tight places. For me, the key that set this softbox apart is its light efficiency, where it reduces only to stop of light. Buy it and starts experiencing the Wafer light quality, you will never regret it.

[Silver] I have had 2 of the wafer140 boxes--beautiful light--this is the best general size. Wore out the first one after many years and bought another! Durable, compact to carry and relatively easy set up. The new one has a better stronger tube for the internal baffles, but a slightly cheaper canvas carry bag.
