Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. once you have your stock solution mixed. Example: 1 gallon stock solution for film(1 part fixer to 3 parts water) Do you dilute anymore for use when developing? Do you save used fixer or throw away? Thanks!

A: I usually use the fixer solution (1 quart to make a gallon) for film twice and then use it for paper developing, checking with Edwal Hypo Check,a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/16687-REG/Edwal_EDHC4_Hypo_Check_Liquid.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/16687-REG/Edwal_EDHC4_Hypo_Check_Liquid.html/aand discarding the solution when it stays cloudy from more than a few seconds.

Q: 2. is water a good enough stop bath for this fixer?

A: The Kodak Professional Kodafix Fixer can be used with a water "stop bath" when developing film or printing on RC paper. For fiber base papers, a stop bath is required.

Q: 3. Is this fixer comparable with developers from non-Kodak manufacturers? Specifically Ilford DD-X/Microphen, etc?

A: Kodak Professional Kodafix Fixer (32 oz, to Make 1 gal) can be used with developers from other manufacturers.

Q: 4. Does the solution expire? I have 3 yr old solution. Safe to use?

A: I contacted VisibleDust concerning your inquiry. According to the manufacturer, the VisibleDust Smear Away Solution's expiration date is 10 years if the bottle is not used or sealed properly after usage. If you have owned the bottle for 3 years and you have not opened the bottle or you have stored the bottle properly, then the solution should be good for another 7 years.

Q: 5. What are the consequences of using a non-hardening fixer for RC paper?

A: RC papers can use either hardening or non-hardening fixers. A non-hardening fixer, such as the Arista Premium Odorless Liquid Fixer (32 oz), is only needed when using a fiber-based paper that you plan to tone.

Q: 6. Can you share the lifecycle status of this product? Is there risk that this product will become obsolete?

A: Depending on storage conditions fixer should last for about 2-3 years after mixing.

Q: 7. the bottle I have has the date 2021/09/20. It is now 2024. It is completely sealed. You figure it's good?

A: Since the Kodak Professional Kodafix Fixer is sealed, it should be good.

Q: 8. Do you need to use a stop bath with this fixer? Any substitute?

A: Best practices say you should use a stop bath after developing and fixing. You could consider using a monobath developing (basically an all-in-one developer/fix/stop) like this Cinestills Df96. Results may look a little different but it will depend on the results/aesthetic you're trying to attain. See the last link provided below for Cinestills' developing times and more info. https://bhpho.to/3Exg05e https://bhpho.to/3ArKmU5 https://bit.ly/3tUshvr

Q: 9. Can this be fixer be used without a stop bath - ie - water rinse after developer?

A: Yes, you can use fixer, such as the Arista Premium Odorless Liquid Fixer (32 oz), without a stop bath when printing on RC paper. A water rinse would be recommended to remove the developer prior to fixing.

Q: 10. Are there supposed to be settled particles in the bottle?

A: Yes, it is normal for there to be sediment or particles in the Kodak Professional Kodafix Fixer. It should not affect the quality of the product, and should dissolve when you dilute the fixer..

[2.8 lb] With the spotty availability of HC110 and its ever increasing cost I decided to give LC110 a go. I was not disappointed. I used my usual time, temperature, and dilution. These gave me the same results as with HC110 without any testing to establish exposure indexes etc.

[2.8 lb] Performs identically to HC110 with the same process times. Still the best universal developer on the market.

[Fixer] It fixes film! There's not much more to say. I keep my fix time at 4 minutes and strip check to make sure they clear in under a minute.

[Fixer] Legacy Pro fixer is chemically similar to Kodak hardening fixer and performs as expected with fiber based prints.

[2.8 lb] A fine alternative to my old reliable: Ilford RapidFix. Similar capacity, same fixing times, and now far more affordable. I use this or Eco Pro Clearfix Neutral Rapid Fixer.

[2.8 lb] Seems to work great with Arista paper (but how can you really tell) and it is indeed odorless. Wish there had been instructions for fixing and washing times. You can't really do the clearing test on paper!

And it really is odorless!

[2.8 lb] Strangely enough, it's just as advertized, no odor and little alkaline residue.

[Fixer] Legacy's fixer with hardner is less expensive than Kodak, but is formulated very similar. I don't know if it really Kodak under a private label, but I am not complaining. I always believe in fixers with hardner for film so nothing will scratch. No issues for me, great stuff!
