[2.35 lb] I've had this unit for only about a month and in that time I've tested it out and it's done well (used mostly for digital conversion of old tapes).

There's really nothing complicated about the operations -- they're very straightforward. The sound quality is good. The machine itself seems robust. I hope it holds well up over time.

As others have pointed out, there's really little competition these days among sellers of audio cassette players/recorders. Unless you can find a lightly used or reconditioned higher-end unit at a good price from a reliable seller, this Tascam seems to be the best unit around.

[2.35 lb] Just received this deck and digitized my first cassette. The conversion is really good. Haven’t had the chance to test noise reduction yet. Overall I am very happy. B&H service is excellent as always.

[2.35 lb] My two other cassette recorders just quit on me, so I needed another one, because I am in the process of converting old tapes to CD's. I went on-line to see what was available, and to my shock - there ain't much available - only about three possible recorders that are still being made that I would consider. After reading the reviews, it looked like only one stood out - the TASCAM. Since I want to use it mostly in the playback mode for copying tapes to CD, I gave it a listen and found it to sound quite good. But just out of curiosity, I checked the record/playback frequency response using pink noise and a one octave analyzer. I did not expect great performance because the specs rated the response, using Type II tape, to be 30-15,000Hz +/- 4dB. I tested it using Maxell XL II (CrO2), and was blown away when the left channel response was 30-8,000Hz +/- 1dB, with the 16,000Hz band down 3dB, and the right channel 30-8,000Hz +/-0.5, with 16,000Hz down 3.5dB! When these types of machines start to roll off, they tend to drop like a rock, so, being down 3dB at 16,000Hz means that the response is probably pretty flat out to 15,000Hz within a dB, or so. Amazing - so far, excellent, and I would highly recommend it.

[2.35 lb] This scope far exceeded my expectations. Tremendous value. Scope is equal to or perhaps exceeds the clarity of scopes costing three times as much.

[2.35 lb] This is the best machine for digitizing old cassettes, even superior to my previous Tascam deck connected via composite to an external X-FI HD soundcard, the onboard DAC is incredible, the wavform even looks different. You only need a computer, a ferrite magnet USB cable, audacity and this deck. I am the best in the world at transferring old cassettes and with this deck you can be as good as I am without any skill or years of learning, buy this!

[2.35 lb] Deck is sturdy. Makes tapes sound great. Easy to operate. Great value. Renews my love of my cassete libarary, which includes hours of vinyl to tape transfer tapes and radio prgrams.
