1. Choose your design
Your design choices are nearly endless. Here are some ideas: Drawings or photographs that have been printed on transparencies or acetate. Actual objects such as leaves, flowers, string, toys, letters, hands, jewelry. Experiment with photographic negatives, x-rays, cut-outs or clip art, lace, and sheer fabrics. Use your imagination - try anything! Once you have chosen your design, lay it on the cyanotype material. To hold your design in place during your sun exposure, use a piece of clear glass or Plexiglas for a tight contact or lay your design loosely if there is no wind. You can also choose to pin your design down into a piece of cardboard or foam core

2. Expose your sun print
First make a test print by exposing your design in the sun for different lengths of time on a small section of cyanotype material (use the test print chart included in the instructions as a guide). Then choose the best exposure time to get the tone you want. To print on both sides of the cyanotype material, first expose one side to the sun using your desired exposure time, then turn the material over, lay the same or different design on the second side and expose it for any time you choose. Once you have exposed your sun print, remove your design

3. Rinse your sun print
When you rinse your print in water for a few minutes (until the water runs clear) your cyanotype print will begin to appear immediately. The negative space on the print will be a dark hue and your design will be the original turquoise color of the paper. If you want a darker effect, spray hydrogen peroxide on your rinsed print. The darker color will appear instantly

[0.265 lb] I first used this as a photogram project with middle schoolers. They loved it! Then I used it as a gift for one of my mentors. I printed digital negatives and exposed the for about 15minutes (time varies depending on negative) the results brought my mentor to tears. In the future I will be making these as gifts for my mom. What was nice about it being on cloth is that it opens the creative mind to many possibilities such as creating a quilt.

[0.265 lb] These are super fun and bring a whole new look to cyanotypes. The only thing to keep in mind is the exposure time needs to be a bit longer than paper.

[cyanotype] I really like using alternative printing techniques, especially ones that don't require a darkroom. These squares are really easy to use and turn out pretty well. Getting the exposure time down is a little tricky and this might waste a couple squares. The colors are great and the final product is pretty unique and fun. I would definitely recommend trying them out!

[0.265 lb] After many experiments, I found flat metal objects make the best impressions. They work best in full sun, 3 minutes each side. The colors are beautiful.

[0.265 lb] There is a universe of excellent cotton digital printing papers. However, IMO the Innova ECG is special. Of course there are no OBAs and the paper is 100% cotton with a heft and hand that is extremely satisfying...nothing flimsy here! The paper is slightly to the warm side and hence will complement those landscape images that will benefit from a warmer tone. What makes the paper special is the unique coating that to my eyes adds depth and presence to one's prints. That is not to denigrate the quality of other cotton papers, but simply to point out that those seeking a special sense of dimensionality will find that prints made with the Innova ECG have to my eyes the special "look" that I find unique. The paper is well packed with interleaving sheets and is easy to handle. The ICC profile from Innova is I believe relatively new and works well with my P800. Indeed, I have not found the need to have "personal ICC profiles" constructed. IMO the paper is worth the small additional cost.
