1. Choose your design
Your design choices are nearly endless. Here are some ideas: Drawings or photographs that have been printed on transparencies or acetate. Actual objects such as leaves, flowers, string, toys, letters, hands, jewelry. Experiment with photographic negatives, x-rays, cut-outs or clip art, lace, and sheer fabrics. Use your imagination - try anything! Once you have chosen your design, lay it on the cyanotype material. To hold your design in place during your sun exposure, use a piece of clear glass or Plexiglas for a tight contact or lay your design loosely if there is no wind. You can also choose to pin your design down into a piece of cardboard or foam core

2. Expose your sun print
First make a test print by exposing your design in the sun for different lengths of time on a small section of cyanotype material (use the test print chart included in the instructions as a guide). Then choose the best exposure time to get the tone you want. To print on both sides of the cyanotype material, first expose one side to the sun using your desired exposure time, then turn the material over, lay the same or different design on the second side and expose it for any time you choose. Once you have exposed your sun print, remove your design

3. Rinse your sun print
When you rinse your print in water for a few minutes (until the water runs clear) your cyanotype print will begin to appear immediately. The print will be a dark hue and your design will be the original violet color of the paper. If you want a darker effect, spray hydrogen peroxide on your rinsed print. The darker color will appear instantly

Q: 1. Hi, what media type should i use with an epson p600 printer?. the icc profile says eam media type, but i dont know what it means. The ilford website did not answer my question, this is why i am asking here. Thanks.

Q: 2. As anyone used the SteadyShot with either a Canon EF 100-400 mm lens or a Canon RF 100-500 mm lens? Are these too heavy for comfortable use?

A: Customers have used the Cotton Carrier Steady Shot with much larger lenses such as the 200-400mm (about 6 inches longer and 4 pounds heaver than the 2 lenses you mentioned). So it is comfortable to use and it will help stabilizer your photos and videos.

Q: 3. Why would someone buy these? Aren't they identical to the canisters 35mm film comes in? I throw so many away. Do people store un-cut negatives in them?

A: I use them to store anything I want to keep dry, like ends of Q tips I use for cleaning the camera when not at home.

Q: 4. Does this stuff have an expiration date on the box? How long will it last in the unopened box? Thanks

A: They do not print an expiration date on the box but they do estimate it should last about 2-3 year un-opened.

Q: 5. Does this fit a D500 and Nikkor 200-500 mm lens? Also, when not using for steady shot, does this function as a carrier harness, as well?

A: 1. I use it for D80 with Sigma 300-600, so it should be fine with your rig.2. Yes, it functions as an excellent camera harness, super comfortable and convenient. In fact, I do not use steady shot much, but I never go shooting with my telephoto without the vest -- the lens is too heavy to carry around my neck for more than an hour, with the vest I can walk and shoot all day long.

Q: 6. What are the washing instructions?

A: The manufacture says, Cyanotype Store Cyanotype T-Shirt (Adult Large, White) is prewashed. I would wash it on cold or maybe warm water. It should be stable at any temperature really after it was washed the first time. Cyanotype is stable

A: The Archival Methods 11 x 14" 2-Ply 100% Cotton Museum Board can be used in a dry-mount press.

Q: 8. Is the opening really exactly 5x7? I would assume that this is intended for a 5x7" print and is held in place by the opening being slightly smaller.

A: The image opening size would be approximately 4-1/4" x 6-3/16" in size.

Q: 9. Does this work with a cannon 7d with 600 lens ?

A: The Canon 7D equipped with a Canon EF 600mm Lens can be attached to the Cotton Carrier Steady Shot with Camera Vest.

[Violet] I keep my images since I started photographing consciously. My oldest slides are from 1966, stored in plastic or paper boxes. Much of it was faded or grew mold. But from 1980 on, when I started to use clear, non PVC plastic pages and provided a cool and dry archival room my slides and negatives are preserved. Today, as I scan those 40 years old pics, few corrections are needed due to fading. Sure, most of the credits go to the controlled environment, but all this energy would be wasted in vain if I did not choose appropriate enclosures. I still keep in my personal archives the work of a great master of contemporary photography, whose 50 years old kodachromes kept in clear files still can be appreciated today as it might be for many more years.

[Violet] After many experiments, I found flat metal objects make the best impressions. They work best in full sun, 3 minutes each side. The colors are beautiful.

[Violet] It is well made, well stitched. Great as a 2nd step diffuser in a book lighting situation, or to slightly diffuse various lighting sources.

[Violet] There is a universe of excellent cotton digital printing papers. However, IMO the Innova ECG is special. Of course there are no OBAs and the paper is 100% cotton with a heft and hand that is extremely satisfying...nothing flimsy here! The paper is slightly to the warm side and hence will complement those landscape images that will benefit from a warmer tone. What makes the paper special is the unique coating that to my eyes adds depth and presence to one's prints. That is not to denigrate the quality of other cotton papers, but simply to point out that those seeking a special sense of dimensionality will find that prints made with the Innova ECG have to my eyes the special "look" that I find unique. The paper is well packed with interleaving sheets and is easy to handle. The ICC profile from Innova is I believe relatively new and works well with my P800. Indeed, I have not found the need to have "personal ICC profiles" constructed. IMO the paper is worth the small additional cost.

[cyanotype] It's great for when you need to diffuse light without cutting too much light.
