Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How can you get this paper to dry flat and lint free? I've tried a blotter roll (unsuccessfulj); and a heated plate dryer (better but imperfect).

A: Here is my cheap solution. Drain off most of the water (I don't even squegee), dry face down on screen overnight. When dry I put in my kitchen oven, set at 170F; I put the photo between two clean mat boards, with rigid cutting boards underneath and on top, and something heavy on top of it all. Leave in for 30-45 min. I then put it in a book with weight on it for 24 hrs., which keeps it flat. Heat plus pressure, just like a dry mount press. More work, yes, but cheap and no big, expensive press.Richard

Q: 2. how is the box sealed?

A: It is stored and transported in a large flat box and us taped all four sides. Inside the box the paper is placed inside a light tight black plastic bag that is over sized and folded at the top.

Q: 3. Can the water be used to wash out the paper go down the drain? Can I use a public waterway to wash out the cyanotype or is it toxic?

A: The Cyanotype Store Cyanotype Paper uses chemical that have a lower toxicity compared to other photographic methods. It is not poisonous, however, it is an irritant to the skin and eyes. It is one of the safest of all of the chemical photographic processes.

Q: 4. how can i develop a cyanotype into a collage?

A: Sunprints are easy to use. And basically you expose the paper with the objects on it and then wash the paper in water. There are many youtube videos on how to do that. I suggest going on line for some of those.

Q: 5. Why is its weight not listed in the SPECS?

A: As a metal rod extension the Kupo Baby Stand Extension (24") BH #KUKG019512, it would be the stand limits that would be more the determining factor.

Q: 6. Do you carry large sheets of pre-treated cyanotype paper, 2' x 3' or close?

A: Closest option we have in that size is this one. Cyanotype Store Cyanotype Cotton (36 x 56", White) BH #CYCC3656W https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1693527-REG

Q: 7. Can I buy two of these and stack them on top of each other? to maker it a total of 48"?

A: Regarding the Kupo Baby Stand Extension (24"), stacking two of them is not recommended.

Q: 8. how much does the box weight? txs

A: I think around 6 or 7 lb, including the box.

Q: 9. How much weigh can this extender take?

A: The weight capacity would be dependent on the stand that the extension is used with.

Q: 10. Are instructions included?

A: No, instructions are not included. I got instructions from my Photography professor.

[0.76 lb] I used this product for an art project with some digitally printed negatives. I was very happy with the detail and a sharpness I got in the cyanotypes. I found that using hydrogen peroxide on the cyanotype once it's been exposed & washed will help to darken the blue tones. Very happy with the product.

[0.76 lb] Easy-to-use cyanotype paper allows students to learn the most basic principles of photography -- that exposing a light-sensitive material to sunlight causes a chemical reaction that can create an image. Because the paper is developed in water, it is safe to use in a classroom; no darkroom required.

[0.76 lb] The photos come out very clear, and a feeling all their own. The developing time is really fast. The hardest part is waiting for them to dry.

[0.76 lb] I ordered these for an assignment in a History of Photography class. They work as expected, but much patience and experimentation is required, and that's what makes them so addictive. Most consistent results were achieved in direct sunlight, but indirect sun works too. My kids LOVED making their own designs. 'Alternative' photographic processes are all the rage right now, and cyanotypes are a great way to get started.
