A versatile ultra-wide prime lens, the Nikon F-mount IRIX 11mm f/4 Lens for Nikon Ffrom IRIX 11mm f/4 Lens for Nikon Fbalances a sophisticated optical design with a lightweight, durable physical construction. Aspherical, extra-low dispersion, and high-refractive index elements are used to suppress color fringing, chromatic and spherical aberrations, as well as unwanted distortion, and also contribute to producing a high degree of sharpness and clarity. Additionally, a Neutrino coating has been applied to limit lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

In addition to the imaging performance, this 11mm f/4 utilizes a manual focus design for fine-tuned control, and incorporates a unique positive focus lock to secure the focusing position at any point for consistent, repeatable shooting. As the Firefly version of this focal length, this lens is also distinguished by a lightweight ABS plastic exterior, printed lens markings, and weather-sealing about the lens housing to permit working in trying environmental conditions.

The Firefly version of the 11mm f/4 lens features a lightweight ABS plastic exterior construction that is sealed against moisture and dust along the main body of the lens. The Firefly construction also incorporates a rubber focus ring for improved grip and control, and has printed focus distance and depth of field scales to aid working with pre-focusing and hyperfocal focusing techniques.

Ultra wide-angle prime designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, this lens can also be used on DX models where it provides a 16.5mm equivalent focal length.

Three aspherical, four high-refractive index, and two extra-low dispersion elements are featured within the optical design to limit both spherical and chromatic aberrations, as well as color fringing and distortion, for improved clarity, sharpness, and even illumination.

A Neutrino coating has been applied to limit lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity.

Manual focus designed is benefitted by a positive focus lock mechanism to secure your focus position at any point to limit unwanted shifting of focus.

A hard click stop indicates the infinity position on the focus ring for easy use in low-visibility conditions.

Large depth of field scale benefits using hyperfocal and pre-focus techniques.

Built-in petal-shaped lens hood blocks stray light in order to reduce lens flare, and also protects the front element of the lens.

Rear of the lens accepts 30 x 30mm cut gel filters.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth bokeh.

Includes complimentary additional rear lens cap.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with an RF adapter on a Canon RF body? I read somewhere that it requires a firmware update installed by IRIX.

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF can be adapted to a Canon R-series mirrorless camera, but the operation would be fully manual, and there would be no EXIF data. No firmware update is needed since it is entirely manual.

Q: 2. How is the iris controlled on a Nikon F-mount camera? Is there a 'G' style control lever? Or is it purely electronically controlled?

A: The aperture is electronically controlled.

Q: 3. (Please ignore or delete my previous question about the difference between the FireFly and Blackstone iterations of this lens -- it is answered in the Overview -Duh! - My bad.) Are the FireFly and Blackstone editions identical in terms of image quality? Thank you!

A: yes Mark the firefly and the blackstone are identical in image quality. The only difference is between them is that the blackstone is fully weather sealed.

Q: 4. Does this lens work on the FTZ adapter for Nikon Z cameras?

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Nikon F is a manual focus and exposure lens that is compatible with Nikon Z cameras with the FTZ adapter.

Q: 5. Is this a fisheye lenses? Thanks

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF is an ultra-wide-angle lens, but it's not technically a fisheye lens--it doesn't create a circular image and it has been designed to minimize some of the distortion inherent in a lens with a focal length this wide.

Q: 6. Anyone using this with a c100 mkii? If so, thoughts?

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Blackstone Lens for Canon EF is an excellent choice for someone interested in a super wide angle rectilinear lens for the C100 Mk II Digital Cinema Camera. The rectilinear design limits image distortion and the lens uses a positive lock mechanism that will make it easier to pull focus consistently and accurately.

Q: 7. What mm size UV protective filter fits this Irix 11mm Blackstone Lens?

A: Due the shape of the front element on the IRIX 11mm f/4 Blackstone Lens for Canon EF, it doesn't accept screw in UV protective filters.

Q: 8. Can the aperture be controlled by a dead adapter like the FotodioX Pro TLT ROKR Tilt-Shift Adapter for Nikon F Lens to Sony E?

A: The aperture in the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens is only controlled electronically. So the Fotodiox tilt/shift adapter would not be able to control the aperture.

Q: 9. Can someone please explain or help me to understand how to read the hyperfocal scale on this lens? I have never had a problem using hyperfocal scales on any of my other lenses, but this one is quite perplexing to me, there are so many values on it.

A: If you are old school and know how to use the hyperfocal scale on manual lenses, then work as you have before. If you wish, you can also use the innovative hyperfocal indication line but really it is meant for others. That is because, ever since auto focus lenses came into use, they have mostly come without manual aperture scales since they had no place for the scales to be applied. Therefore a generation of photographers has grown up not knowing what they are for or how to use them. With Irix's hyperfocal line, the new user determines what aperture they are using, moves the focus ring to line up the aperture number on the Irix hyperfocal line with the lens focus mark. Then they look to the aperture numbers on the traditional scale to see the hyperfocal distance or the area that is in acceptable focus. To old users it is not necessary, to new users it is very helpful.

Q: 10. Since there is no Sony FE version, how will this work with a Canon EF to Sony E Metabones adapter?

A: Works well with the Metabones Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E Mount T Smart Adapter (Fifth Generation).

[2.985 lb] After 3 months of waiting I received the lens and i had tried it for few shots. the lens is tack sharp with little distortions and some CA. This super wide angle has great colors and good contrast the only negative is that I recieved the lens with scratched cap which makes it like a used one.

[126°] Awesome lens for scenery, landscapes, cramped interiors ... really opens things up!
Packaging
was excellent, lens was inside a sturdy metal box with heavy duty foam
inserts, inside a durable cardboard box, inside a padded cardboard box
from B&H.
This lens seems very well built, gives sharp images,
and has features I wish other lens makers would use in their lenses; the
hyper-focal distance scale, click stop infinity detent, and raised
'lever' on focusing ring to name a few.
I would definitely recommend this lens as an inexpensive, lightweight, super-ultra-wide-angle lens !!!

[11mm] The Irix 11mm lens produces professional level images. I’ve owned 5 similar focal length lenses from both Sigma, Nikon, and Zeiss. This lens is by far the best. If the lens had “Nikon” or “Zeiss” badging, I would expect it to sell for $1200.

Super wide lenses, by their nature, are more difficult to focus because they have extreme depth-of-field. They challenge auto exposure metering because they include an extremely wide field of view. These are not the lens’ fault, they are the way super wide lenses operate. If you are not familiar with such lenses you’ll need to learn how to use them.
