A: The Zoom is 35X optical and 4x digital. The optics is equivalent to 24-840mm lens in a 35mm camera. 840mm is one heck of a zoom factor. I would not use the digital zoom as it interpolates between pixels and with 840mm you don't need it. It is a great camera for the price. I purchase one for my wife from B&H.
