Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any reports of the magnets in mittens causing issues with cameras or memory cards (since this question was last asked in 2021)?

A: We don't have reports of magnets in mittens causing issues with cameras or memory cards. Personally, I use a similar mitten with magnets and I never had any issue.

Q: 2. is the hold for the fold back velcro or a magnet? In the picture it's velcro but on their website it's a magnet.

A: Magnets hold the folded-back finger and thumb covers out of the way.

Q: 3. Washable?

A: They are not machine washable.

Q: 4. If I wear the size 10 Polartec liner, what size shell should I get?

A: The The Heat Company SHELL Mittens (Size 10, Gray) are compatible with hands 8.9-9.5", measured around the palm of your dominant hand just below the knuckles. The Heat Company recommends sizing up if you are in between sizes.

Q: 5. Tarmac Green. Is it green? Or is it brown?

A: These gloves are more to the brown side.

Q: 6. Would you please tell me if you know if the the celetron elements thermocharge 3 power bank can fit in the zippered pocket? THx!

A: No, the Celestron Elements ThermoCharge 3 Power Bank would not comfortably fit in the pocket of the The Heat Company Heat 2 Softshell Mittens/Gloves (Size 10, Tarmac Green). These gloves are made for slim flexible heating pads.

Q: 7. Do these include the liners?

A: Yes, the liners are integrated with the glove.

Q: 8. Could these be used to casually ski in as well?

A: For casual skiing, the The Heat Company Heat 2 Softshell Mittens/Gloves (Size 10, Green) (B&H# HEAT2SSM10GR) would be fine since it has a goatskin palm. However, you may prefer something more durable if it would be for more energetic skiing.

Q: 9. These have strong neodymium magnets embedded in them to snap the fingers and mitten open. Are there any concerns having such magnets around phone screens and memory cards?

A: There have been no reports of the magnets in these mittens causing any issues around phone screens or memory cards to date.

Q: 10. Is the thing that hold the fold back velcro or a magnet? In the pictures here it shows velcro but on their site it shows a magnet.

A: Magnets hold the folded-back finger and thumb covers out of the way.

[Nylon] Nice addition to my bag for cold-weather shooting. The little pocket for tucking in a hand warmer is very functional, and it's nice that they fit comfortably under a pair of gloves/mittens.

[0.365 lb] I hesitated to buy these because of the price, but I'm glad I did finally get them. They kept my hands warm enough on a trip in Alaska, standing out in the cold with my camera for hours on end. Love the wrist straps, the place for hand warmers over my fingers, the long cuffs and everything about these mittens. The only change I would make would be to have the zipper on the inside of the hand go the opposite way, so only my index finger needed to be exposed to the cold, and also then that zipper pull would have been out of the way of my index finger, but it wasn't a big deal. Definitely recommend.

[Nylon] I use these with the separate Merino wool liners. Together they are wonderful. This combination is definitely warmer than the mittens with built in liners, which I did not like. The mittens are very functional. I am very happy.

[Nylon] Good quality product to complete my glove layering system. Expect to keep my hand warm in my next travel adventure to cold places.

[0.365 lb] Worked well in -10 degree Fahrenheit weather while using chemical hand warmers in the zipper pouches. I also wore Heat Co. Merino Wool liner underneath with a chemical hand warmer in the provided pouches. The zipper finger opening worked well with the magnetic catch as did the thumb covers. I was able to manipulate a full-size Nikon DSLR.

[Nylon] When these gloves are combined with a good pair of liners, the warmth, comfort, and versatility, are simply unmatched! Print and use the measuring tape to ensure a good fit and you cannot go wrong. These are highly recommended!

[Nylon] Not cold enough yet to try them in the field, but they are very well made and exactly as expected. Note to women with short fingers...these are a little long, but the size 7 is not available. Size 7 for me is a better fit.

[Nylon] I used these in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons last week. It was 0F and 15F on the 2 days I was in Yellowstone. These gloves kept my hands toasty. I didn't use the Heat Co liners though. I used some ~$10 liners I bought at a big box store, and they worked just fine. I'll compare shooting with these gloves to my Yosemite trip last Thanksgiving in ~15-20F where I had liners and a different brand, high-quality snowboarding mittens.

With Heat Co mittens and other brand liners:
- fingers get cold in unzipped mode after extended shooting...as expected because liners aren't going to keep my fingers warm in 0-15F.
- fingers warm up faster once put back in the mittens.
- if speed and mobility are important in your shooting, you could quickly put fingers in/out of mittens in-between shots while moving around (without zipping up). This helps to keep your fingers warm.

With snowboarding mittens/liner combo:
- entire hand gets cold when I pulled off the mittens to shoot...as expected.
- takes longer to warm up my hands once the mittens come back on.
- a hassle and slower to put on/off mittens when in-between shots.

I hope this helps you determine if paying the premium is worth it for your needs. It was totally worth it for me.

[0.365 lb] Product quality is very good as expected, although the price is on the high side. Bought this mitten to complete my wife's glove layering system to face any cold temperature in our travel.
