The Talon G2 H.264 Decoder from Osprey Video is a compact H.264 video decoder designed for portable use. Input up to four RTP (unicast) or UDP (multicast) streams via the single GigE Ethernet input. The Talon G2 decodes the streams, and outputs them for display using its HDMI and SDI ports. This decoder handles resolutions up to 1080p60 and can also play .TS files from an external flash drive via its USB 2.0 port. Features include multiple PiP (picture-in-picture) options and a touch display/control panel. EIA-608 and EIA-708 CC (closed captioning) support is available on the SDI output.

This hardware-based decoder has a fanless design and a low power consumption of less than 6W. The Talon G2's input voltage range of 9-17 VDC makes it suitable for battery-operated equipment and installations.

[9.2 oz (260 g)] Bought this and its matching rx. They seem pretty good. You can select different definitions, FHD, HD, SD, and then can assign them to the 3 types, and allocate bit rates for each. Eg you can select HD, send that to SD and a bit rate of 800 and FHD to HD and a bit rate of 2000 etc. It then selects the resolution type, eg 720P. The only limitation I find a bit strange is that the full range of resolutions, are not available all the time. They vary what is available depending on the Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz of the incoming HDMI. I am using 60Hz, and this does not have 1080i, but if I was using 50Hz, then 1080i would be included.
60Hz has 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080P.
50Hz has 576i, 576P, 720P, 1080P, 1080i.
The other strange thing I notice is that if I select a bit rate of 800Kbps, and then monitor the link at the IP level, it seems to be using about 3.5Mbps.
However, for quality and ease of use, these seem to be great devices.

[1 x 1 GbE] This is the perfect product for sending RTMP to deliver to the masses as well as saving to File. Great for our changing workflows with SDI or HDMI and easy to set up, start and let stream at high quality at a great price point for the quality and reliability.

[6 W] We use it at our school for live streaming to YouTube while simultaneous archiving to a network share. It is very easy to use and never let us down. Looking forward to the G2 version as it will eliminate the ipad that we currently use for starting and stopping the streams.

[6 W] Almost any camcorder produced before 2018 doesn't have NDI capabilities but with the addition of the Birddog Mini, you can make a leap into the world of networked video without any heavy lifting.

Excellent choice for any church or school that needs to stream video but doesn't want to incur the cost of wiring for video. Any HDMI source can be plugged into the Mini and using a local network, connected to a computer with a streaming application such as vMix or OBS. No capture card necessary - it just works.

This is a device that needs to be in the toolbox of any serious videographer.

[USB 2.0 Type-A] this box is easy to use yet complex enough to solve not so common issues in ip workflows. low latency, high quality streams with really cool features like an open vpn client and a lot of integrations to make it easy to contribute to tons of platforms. love it

[USB 2.0 Type-A] Installed a pair of these to transmit to a projector up on the ceiling. POE made it all quick and painless. The unit at the projector is set to recieve from the other unit which can be plugged onto the network from any location around the stage, booth, or the rest of the facility for that matter. Easy for presenters to just plug on and present without fighting the technology.

[1.45 lb] The Osprey is quite versatile and reliable. We have purchased dozens of the G1 & G2 encoders for use throughout numerous facilities in our extensive network. Our primary use is for multicasting, but we also do a number of unicasts and YouTube streams.
Osprey tech support is so helpful and knowledgeable, which is another huge selling point.
We have used numerous other manufacturers products (HaiVision, Evertz, Ensemble Design, and Lynx). All of them work fine but Osprey offered the best quality and reliability for the price.

[1 x 1 GbE] This device works great when used with the Muxlab Extender. I came right out of the extender into a 10 port gigabit POE switch, and ran 5 monitors up to 200ft from the switch to each decoder. You do need a decoder for each monitor. Since the switch was POE I did not have to use the provided power supply for any decoder
