Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I plan to use this with Alien Bees or Nikon SB-900. Do I need to buy extra mount to use with?

A: Dzung, The Halo will mount to the Umbrella receptacle on your Alien Bee. For the SB-900 you will need a speedlight adapter like the Westcott Adjustable Shoe Mount Speedlite Bracket #5015.

Q: 2. Will this work with a StarFlash 150?

A: Yes, this would work with StarFlash 150.

Q: 3. How is this different in output to a basic Umbrella Softbox of the same size? For example the Phottix 40" Shoot Through PH85380?

A: There is no light lost, which is common in shoot through umbrellas. The reflected light stays within the modifier for higher output.

Q: 4. Any idea when these will be restocked? Been waiting for months.

A: I'm sorry, we still don't have an eta on this item.

Q: 5. How would you compare the quality and concentration of the light as compared to the Photek SoftLighter umbrella series?

A: The quality of light is extremely soft and emulates that of a shoot through umbrella (minus the light loss). The Halo is more forgiving than the Photek version due to its wider spread of light.

Q: 6. Will this softbox work on a Paul Buff speedring?

A: Yes replace the speeding for a Balcar or Paul Buff speedring.

Q: 7. I’d like to try continuous lighting with this. Is it possible and if so what would be an affordable but quality option?

A: Yes, it is possible however we recommend a LED light source due to the 300W heat resistance rating that the Halo fabric carries. One popular option for an LED light source is the Solix Compact Kit (Westcott SKU #6250) due to its versatile modifier options and its price.

Q: 8. How do you put these on the unit?

A: The softbox on the back has straps that work with Velcro that keep it on the light.

Q: 9. Mine doesn't have a diffuser. Do you have extras.

A: P90L doesnt have grid only, but it does two diffuser (inner and outer). One parabolic umbrella that allows three gadget (diffusers and grid)

Q: 10. How does the halo work with the rotolight neo 2?

A: To use this Westcott Halo Mono with the Rotolight Neo 2, you would need to put the light on the Impact Deluxe Umbrella Mount with Adjustable Shoe B&H # IMDUBAS, which has a cold shoe mount and an umbrella slot, so everything can mount on a light stand. https://bhpho.to/2UiVUUq.

[Yes] Bought it for my MC200 light panel. This softbox is nice and deep, very well made and does the job its intended... and all that at a very modest price. The velcro straps method to mount it do take some getting used to, but it's a very short learning curve, and they hold the softbox on the light very securely. The included snap grid could be a little deeper but at this price getting it at all is simply a great deal. This is a great accessory for an already great and affordable light.

[Yes (Included)] Works with any off camera flash unit or monolight. Nice soft diffused light. The back baffle prevents flare.

I staple Velcro to the baffle openings so the baffle sticks to the Velcro on the sides of the flash head... otherwise the baffle falls in and blocks the flash.

My other modification is I super glue the ends of the spokes into their caps, because otherwise they tend to come out.

[Yes] This was a replacement for another Halo Ive worn out. I really like this light for portraiture. Its very soft and efficient light. Easy to control. And of course it folds up for storage in my relatively small Studio

[Yes (Included)] This is as easy to use as an umbrella, but gives a much nicer light. We use it at weddings and it has the added benefit of not blasting the people standing behind you with light.

[Yes] I ordered this thinking I was taking a risk. I've bought many softboxes in the past from much higher-priced brands. Ironically the cheapest of them all turns out to have the best design, at least for this light.

[Yes] I use these at weddings both indoors and outside. They can't be beat for the soft light, compactness, portability, and price.

However, I modify them, stapling self-stick velcro to the flaps, which will then attach to velcro on my flash heads.

Warning: Outdoors, they cause light stands to blow over with the slightest breeze. So use a heavy stand, and place a 15lb sandbag on the base of the stand.

[Yes (Included)] This works just like a soft box but much easier and faster to set up. I was amazed at how accurate the skin tones are using this product. I can do a one light setup and I have absolutely no shadows. This is perfect for on the fly-location photography where you need something more than on camera flash but less than a whole studio set up. One negative aspect however is the lack of a storage bag. It is difficult to fold this up exactly how it came in the factory packaging. A soft nylon sleeve would have been helpful but overall, a very worthwhile product.
