Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it be possible to don this blind over myself with camera and tripod, and then wade into shallow waters, making this a water blind of sorts? I'd really love to be able to photograph waterfowl from as close to eye level (water level) as possible, but don't know if this would be two cumbersome when wet.

A: YEs you would be able to do that with this blind. Though it is not fully waterproof, it is water repellant, so I would just ensure to hang it to dry once you are done shooting for the day.

Q: 2. Are there issues with the plastic window being hard to see out of?

A: The mesh window works well for the photographer to see the subject but still be hidden.

Q: 3. What are the outside dimensions of the pouch?

A: The pouch is a approximately 8.5 x 8.5 .

Q: 4. I want to be able to sit on a small stool or chair, with tripod/big lens. Will it fit over my chair and tripod?

A: Yes, assuming your chair or stool is on the smaller side.

Q: 5. Is the regular weight very heavy or should I consider the lightweight version?

A: I have the regular and it is only 2.3 lbs

Q: 6. Can you do hand held photography, with this blind, or must you use a tripod?

A: Yes, a photographer can use the Lens Coat Photo Blind in a handheld position but we highly recommend using with a tripod for a better end-user experience.

Q: 7. Would this fit over a Sigma contemporary 150-600 lens? What about smaller telephotos such as under 105mm?

A: Yes, the LensCoat LensHide Water-Repellent Photo Blind is a good option for the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens. It is a but cumbersome to use with shorter lenses like 105mm, but it is possible.

Q: 8. Can you lay down with this blind?

A: Yes you can but if you want to be closer to the ground, why not sit on a small stool.

Q: 9. Is this waterproof?

A: no, although the store has a waterproof version

Q: 10. Would the part that goes over the lens hood be tightened enough for a smaller lens diameter like the Panasonic Leica 100-400?

A: Yes it can fit tight enough over a lens like the Panasonic 100-400mm

[2.8 lb / 1.3 kg] Love it. Easy to deploy. Not easy to fold it back in the pouch. It fits perfectly to my photography blind needs.

[3.5 lb] Ok, I got this PhotoBlind from Lens Coat, straight from them over 3 years ago. It's my absolute must wherever I go. Photographing birds is still my hobby even if I am over 60 and have some issues with my back spine. Why? Exactly due to this, I can just sit on a small collapsible stool, fix my tripod, my camera, the long lens, and I get it all under this coat! It was very long for me so I just trimmed it, and used the rest to make another small cammo cover for the camera when I don't need to use the full set (Specially when I am in the car) After washing, using, lying on the grass with it , putting it even over some rocks to make them less aggressive to my rears (LOL) I can say this thing is a great invention. Lens coat might not seem cheap, but when you see how long their stuff last, it's great.

[2.8 lb / 1.3 kg] The LensHide is light, easy to use and carry. Most importantly it's effective in helping you get closer to your subjects. My first use was to get close to kingfishers and green heron. I had both drop in, stay and conduct their natural behavior like I wasn't even there. Same result when I went under the hide, 14 feet from hummingbirds feeding. While sitting for hours, I'm able to drink my coffee or water and even check my cell phone without disturbing nervous wildlife. I have no complaints about the design, but I do have a user tip. The cap doesn't really attach securely to your head, so it can be a bit annoying when you turn your head back and forth and will definitely give you a bad hair day. But, if you wear a hat that fits your head, it makes the experience much more enjoyable. I use a floppy brim bucket style hat and fold the front part of the brim upward then pull the cap down over the hat. Now the hide moves with you verses sliding around on your head. I find it much, much more comfortable and improves the usability of the blind. If you need to step out for a moment, it's easy to lift the back of the material up, lay it over the camera and then quickly get back in. I've used it sitting down and standing up. Works great in both positions. I'm sure it will work equally as well laying down.

[3.5 lb] I used the blind to sit on my back yard patio and get within about 8 feet of my hummingbird feeder and photograph hummers for hours. It's light weight and easy to put on. The birds were curious about the blind and buzzed very near me to check me out. I got great shots of them that I could not have gotten otherwise. Now, I'm ready for a real field trip.

[2.8 lb / 1.3 kg] As always LensCoat does not disappoint. American made and at quality. Relatively lightweight and compact once in the pouch. I had a great success shooting waterfowl in this hide. I'm 6'-1 200lbs and I fit fine in it with Gitzo tripod and the Lowpro 600 pack

[3.5 lb] I haven't gotten it into the field yet, these are my first impressions on opening the package that I haven't seen addressed too much elsewhere. Back side of the Max5 fabric is similar pattern but mostly white (see photo for comparison) - I might also try the blind inside out for winter/snow. I'm 6'0 and bought the regular length. The fabric goes to the ground plus an inch or two with no shoes or hat on flat floor. Plenty of room for long lens with monopod. Would be fine in the field for someone up to 6'2. Maybe at 6'5 and/or with a tripod someone would want the longer one (maybe not if ground is grassy?), but consider the extra fabric (in the way ?) if you want to move positions, sit, etc.. Looking through the netting seems pretty unobstructed. Some reviewers comment on the lightweight fabric but it's not super-cheap. I'd compare it to the outer fabric on a low cost (e.g., Walmart) camo jacket. Certainly heavier than bed sheet fabric. The fabric seems just right for 3 season breathable use.

[2.8 lb / 1.3 kg] Fast setup and hidden because the human form is camouflaged - way better than a ghille suit.
