The Swarovski STS-65 HD 65mm Spotting Scope Straight Viewingcombines the legendary image quality and world-class workmanship that nature enthusiasts, tactical professionals, and researchers have come to expect from the brand. The 65mm-objective straight-through viewing configuration is compact, relatively lightweight, and particularly well suited for the hunter, outdoor enthusiast, or birder on the go. This version of the STS-65 is offered here without an eyepiece for those users who already have the optional 25-50x wide-angle or 20-60x zoom eyepieces and want to upgrade their scope body. Extra-low dispersion fluoride glass elements efficiently transmit all wavelengths of visible light, resulting in bright images that are color faithful, crisp, and rich with detail. SWARODUR and SWAROTOP coatings on all lenses and prisms minimize glare while maximizing contrast.

Complementing the optical performance and technologies is a lightweight and durable aluminum-alloy chassis that is wrapped in a protective rubber armor. Its optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be dustproof, waterproof and submersible, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes or environmental conditions. For mounting, the tripod collar has a 1/4"-20 socket on the bottom of the shoe and rotating collar for precise eyepiece placement relative to the mounting system.

Q: 1. What maximal increase can be attained on this good on condition of maintenance of quality image ? What eyepieces will suit for this purpose ?

A: I am not quite sure what you mean in your first question. Can you please explain better as to what you mean? I can recommend an eyepiece for you, however I would need to know what you will be using the scope for.

Q: 2. Will the TeleVue 40mm Plossl eyepiece focus properly with this spotting scope?

A: Yes, the Tele Vue Plossl 40mm eyepiece will fit in the Pentax scope. The Pentax scope can use any 1.25 eyepiece. But it hasn't been tested to our knowledge, so your results may vary.

Q: 3. Does anyone know if the TeleVue 40mm Plossl eyepiece will focus properly with this scope. This eyepiece requires much more focus tube extension to focus with my small refractor scope compared with the other Televue Plossl eyepieces tha I have?

A: Yes, the Tele Vue Plossl 40mm eyepiece will fit in the Pentax scope. The Pentax scope can use any 1.25 eyepiece. But it hasn't been tested to our knowledge, so your results may vary.

Q: 4. Can the Pentax PF-65ED II be used to look up at the moon and stars ?

A: Yes , for casual viewing

Q: 5. working temperatures ?

A: Buy a high quality fixed eyepieces such as the ones referenced above. Stay away from zoom eyepieces (image quality is not as good, in my humble opinion. Spend more money and get several fixed eyepieces--one that will let you get you fairly close and that will provide a wider field of view, and one that will enable you to get much closer and that will give you a much narrower fov. With this scope, you should have no problem using a high power ep to get up close and see great detail. (Also make sure you get and use a very sturdy tripod.)

Q: 6. Would the Viper HD 20-60X85 Spotting Scope be a suitable general purpose telescope for use from the porch of a mountain house?

Q: 7. Will this case allow for access to the zoom ring for the modular zoom eyepiece (with zoom ring adjacent to focus ring)?

A: When the Swarovski Stay-On-Case for ATS-65 / ATS-65 HD / ATM-65 HD Spotting Scope is on the scope, the user will not have access to the Zoom ring.

Q: 8. Does this have a "fine focus" knob like the Diamonback model or does the focus mechanism on this one not need it?

A: The fine focus knob is not needed. The helical focus does it all.

Q: 9. Would the TeleVue 40mm Plossl eyepiece focus OK with this scope?

A: Yes, the Tele Vue Plossl 40mm eyepiece will fit in the Pentax scope. The Pentax scope can use any 1.25 eyepiece. But it hasn't been tested to our knowledge, so your results may vary.

[Straight] Fits tight

[4.55 lb] I had this spotting scope many years ago and later regretted letting it go, so I repurchased it recently, and was not disappointed to see it was as good as I remembered. I already had a nice 8-24mm zoom lens for it and it makes a great compact, travel scope. Optically, it's a very good performer (as an Astronomer, I had to turn it onto Epsilon Lyra which showed the tight components split quite reasonably with a Nagler 2-4mm zoom lens). I took this and a light-weight tripod to the top of Enchanted Rock where I got fantastic views of the Hill Country. Not all 1.25 eyepieces are necessarily going to come to focus with this scope - my 8-24mm Hyperion Zoom only just barely focusses to infinity, so a bit more in-focus travel would be desirable, but that's a small quip.

[65 mm] Very durable case that stays on the scope to keep it protected. I expect it will last a long time.

[1/4"-20 Female] I looked at many reviews trying to decide what spotting scope would best fit my needs and that would also possibly work for astronomy purposes hence the 1.25 eyepiece interchangeability. I obtained a Vixen NLV 8-24mm zoom and WOW, this scope surprised me with the clarity and brightness. Unfortunately, I now need some quality fixed eyepieces and a good telescope! Gotta love it...

[M67 x 0.75] My scope is over 15years old. I was a little concerned the case wouldn't fit very well. Perfect fit out of the box, well built, perfect addition for my scope.

[4.55 lb] In regards to use and performance this is the best value in optics out there. Price points beyond this venerable, time tested optic will give rapid diminishing returns in performance. This is a huge scope in small package, I have used top tier Pentax lenses in the past, I was surprised, this is the best Pentax glass I have ever seen, right up there with my Zeiss and Meopta glass, maybe better.

[Straight] I can't think of anything negative to say about this scope and I am pretty fussy when it comes to optics. Well balanced, light, smooth focusing, very sharp optics, and the best part is I can use any 1 1/4 astronomical eyepiece many of which are far superior to the zooms found on spotting scopes. Wider field, better eye relief, more contrast, less internal reflections, and much less light loss at higher powers. A 30mm average field eyepiece gives almost a four degree field- wide enough to follow birds on the wing. Congratulations to Pentax for getting it right!

[65 mm] Your Swarovski spotting scope deserves this case. Expensive but worth it. I've tried cheaper covers and they don't compare. I just returned from an antelope hunt and I carried my spotting scope in my backpack with this cover protecting it. It does the job.

[65 mm] I was so nervous about buying anything Swarovski because I am Miss Destructo. I've only had this scope for a few months, but it's been around the block and is still working perfectly. The perfect amount of light is allowed in to be able to view birds at a distance, even in low light settings. It zooms in and stays clear, no blurring at the edges. The body is quite durable. I haven't tried it, and probably won't, but the scope is designed to be submersible. I finally decided that it was worth it to get the best on the market, and my dream of having a Swarovski scope has come true (and my secret jealousy issues of others with Swarovski scopes has gone away). And the scope lives up to every expectation I could have! Totally worth it! And a great price set by B&H. ......

[65 mm] Easy to install and covers the scope perfectly, even with the lens caps on both ends. I'm one who carries my scopes and tripods loose in the back of my Jeep with chairs, table and the dog's crate. No dings or scratches yet. Highly recommended.
