Designed in collaboration with Dave Smith Instruments, the Pioneer Toraiz AS-1 is a monophonic analog synthesizer based on the discrete analog circuitry of the Prophet-6 synthesizer, bringing new creative possibilities to the studio and the stage. The intuitive controls include parameter knobs, which allow for subtle or dramatic changes to the tone of your music to create a personalized sound. Additionally, the on-board, touchpad-style keyboard and slider allow for sound manipulation on the fly during performances.

The instrument features two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) with continuously variable waveforms including triangle, saw, and pulse wave shapes. There are two voltage-controlled filters (VCF), a 4-pole, resonant low-pass filter that can self-oscillate, and a 2-pole resonant high-pass filter. Additionally, there are two ADSR envelope generators, a VCA, and an LFO. For effects, the AS-1 inherits the Prophet-6's dual FX engine and includes a bucket-brigade delay, ring modulation, chorus, phaser, and digital distortion. There are 495 preset programs organized into 10 banks, with each program offering its own 64-step sequencer. The Pioneer Toraiz AS-1 ships with an AC adapter and power cord.

  • Working closely with Dave Smith himself, Pioneer has created a synth that produces powerful analog sound
  • The Toraiz AS-1 is an ideal addition to the setups of professional and aspiring producers

  • The AS-1 is based on the same analogue filters as Dave Smith’s renowned Prophet-6 synthesizer
  • Features 2 voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) with continuously variable triangle, sawtooth, and pulse wave shapes
  • Sculpt your sound using the 2 voltage-controlled filters (VCF), a 4-pole, resonant low-pass filter that can self-oscillate, and a 2-pole, resonant high-pass filter

  • Use the Toraiz AS-1 to create one-of-a-kind sounds using 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs, a VCA, 2 EGs, and 1 LFO
  • Save each sound and its parameter settings as a program so you can instantly access it later

  • There are 495 preset programs, each with a different sound and 64-step sequencer that can be edited separately
  • You can also save up to 495 of your own programs in the 5 user banks

  • Be creative with the Prophet-6-derived dual FX engine—use a single effect or pair 2 together to add extra texture to your sounds
  • FX includes:
    • Bucket-brigade delay
    • Distortion
    • Ring modulation
    • Chorus
    • Maestro phaser

  • The Toraiz AS-1 will make sure your performance is in perfect harmony as you perform the sounds you create with the touchpad keyboard or change the notes assigned to the keys with Scale Mode

  • Add dynamic changes to your performance by using the slider to manipulate 7 different parameters
  • Change the pitch of 2 oscillators, adjust the amount of FX, and more

  • Perform a repeating chord pattern and change it in real time
  • Try out different scales
  • Match scales with a track during playback

  • Give your performance the edge with the 64-step sequencer
  • Step-recording of patterns, changing the musical key, editing the sound without editing the pattern

  • Create even more complex patterns by connecting the Toraiz AS-1 synth to the Toraiz SP-16 live sampler via MIDI
  • Or take it to the booth and connect the sampler to your DJ setup via Pro DJ Link: The CDJs play the track, the Toraiz SP-16 adds loops and one-shots, and the Toraiz AS-1 generates unique analog leads

  • Use the optional Soundtower Sound Editor to view the details of your programs in a single graphical interface, and experiment freely by editing the parameters directly on your Windows computer or Mac

Q: 3. Does rekordbox work with exFat? My MacBook Pro will not allow me to format my ssd Samsung T7 to the Fat32 format. The Fat32 option is available only for windows computers (NOT SURE). This question applies to all pioneer dj equipment which use rekordbox together with an external hard-drive. Rekordbox does not see any music files stored on my SSD; however, it does show (recognize) the existence of the T7.

A: No, rekordbox is not compatible with exFAT at this time. According to Pioneer DJ, it is possible to format your drive to FAT32 natively within Mac or from the command line or using third party tools in Windows.

A: According to Pioneer DJ, OS requirements are Windows 10, 8.1 (64-bit, The latest service pack), or the latest versions of macOS Catalina 10.15, Mojave 10.14, and High Sierra 10.13. The CPU requirements are Intel® processor Core™ i9, i7, i5, i3, Intel® processor Core™ i9, i7, i5 (Video function). You should have at least 4 GB of memory, and 8GB for the video function, with a hard disk/SSD of 2GB or more of free space (not including space for storing music files, etc.)

Q: 8. Why does my Sony MDR 7506's headphone jack not fit into the XDJ RR's headphone input?  Both have 1/8" / 3.5 mm. Note: The Sony's 1/4 inch does fit.  The 1/8 inch does not.  The Sony's 1/8 inch jack is not insertable! The Sony is at least 10 years old; however, this should not matter.

A: It should fit; any 1/8 mini (3.5mm) jack (female) on the dj mixer would work with the 1/8" mini on the headphones. The newer Sony MDR 7506 headphones come with a removable adaptor (it is a 1/8" to 1/4" adaptor). This adaptor is also available at B&H, part #: PEAMPS3S or (better) RESONY18ADPT

Q: 9. Can I use this controller with my Rekordbox software on my laptop as well?

A: Yes, as long as your computer meets the system requirements, this will work with and machine that has Rekordbox. You will notice that the controller has two USB A ports. This would allow you to connect two computers at a time, so you can access music from either, or in a multi-DJ situation each DJ can have their laptop connected and ready to go.

Q: 10. Will this wire work on Bose QuiteComfort 35 ii Headphones?

A: Yes, using the included 1/4" to 3.5mm screw-type adapter with the Pioneer DJ Coiled Cable for HRM-7, HRM-6 & HRM-5 Headphones (3.9'), the Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II Wireless Noise-Canceling Headphones (Black) will work.

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] You basically get a three voice analog synth with easily accessible modulation features that syncs with the other Volcas and runs on batteries.

It does tend to tear through batteries in my experience but that goes for all the Volcas and you can always plug it in.

[4.955 lb] I can do much more than i expected with this one!
Volca series is just what I needed.

[4.955 lb] The Minilogue is a really fun to use synthesizer, with an immediate interface to tweak and a great sound, while also affordable. At first I wasn't so sure about its sound, but had a test drive and it really impressed me (all 3 times in consecutive days). Even as an affordable synth, it has its own thing and can sound amazing. Been using it mostly for pad and keyboard(ish) bell sounds, and it is great at it. Throw in an external delay pedal and you're good for days. Sound-wise, it doesn't have the aggressively low end you find on other synths, but it is very good at mid-range. I love the filter tonality, and while not the most versatile beast, it is certainly capable of doing some impressive things. The hardware is also very well made for what you pay... good metallic plate on top, mini-keys that are way better than traditional ones, all necessary tools for customizing simple and complex sounds (although limited in terms of modulations), nice knobs and switches, ideal size (love this small footprint). There's a single thing I don't enjoy much: the pitch bend lever. I'd rather have a single modulation one... this aside, an amazing little synth.

[1 voice] The minilogue is a full fledged 4 voice polyphonic analog synth with 1 LFO. You can save patches (200) and the oscilloscope is helpful for patch building. When recalling patches, there are several options for the knobs too-- the default is to 'jump' to the value that the knob is turned to, but there is also a 'catch' option that won't change the parameter until you move the knob to where it was in the saved patch-- this is very helpful for live performance to ensure smooth parameter transitions! I have been using in both studio and live setting. Overall a surprisingly well made and feature-full analog synth... hard to believe korg packed everything in at such a low pricepoint for analog polys!

[4.955 lb] Been waiting for so long to get my hands on one of these! Ever since I opened the box I've been in love. For the price point you can't beat it. I've been using the Korg R3 for about 5 years and a Roland SH-32 for about a year, this is a perfect addition to my setup! If you're in the market for an analog synth.. BUY THIS ONE!

[4.955 lb] Great sound and functionality. This is one of the oldest models so it doesn't get a lot of love but it can do a lot more than you think if you take the time to learn it. All the volcas jam well together and I definitely recommend this, but get the FM first if you have a tight budget.

[4.955 lb] I’ve owned Synthesizers since 1972. I currently own quite a few from several manufacturers, Behringer, Roland, ASM, Elektron, Modal, Teenage Engineering and Korg (Volca FM 2 and Sample 2) to name a few.

10 years in the marketplace this Volca Keys has really held up to the test of time.

Marketed as an “Analogue” Synthesizer in reality the control signals are generated digitally with the CPU using a 10-bit DAC giving it near-analogue resolution. So this is a Subtractive Hybrid unit; an analogue sound engine with digital control so dial tweaks and note info can be recorded into the sequencer/accessed over MIDI. By the way, this is a good thing not a negative at all.

It’s a pretty easy to use, straightforward, with no menu screen, pretty much a dial per function arrangement. Great for beginners but powerful enough for experienced users.

I did notice notice that some dials are translucent and some solid. As a rule I found the solid dials' movements can't be sequenced, but the translucent dials can be sequenced and are backlit red plus flash to denote which parameters are active or recorded in a 'motion sequence' (motion sequencing captures dial movements into the sequencer).  The tempo dials flash in time with the internal/MIDI-clocked tempo and each key/sequence step has its own LED too, convenient for letting you know what's happening at a glance within complex sequences
.
It has 3 sawtooth wave oscillators & produces great upfront three-note chords, dirty lead/bass lines, ring modulated sounds and detuned unisons. It also features octave/fifth mono modes, a versatile tempo-syncable analogue-style delay that does reverbs/bit-crushing (from the Monotron Delay) freeform unquantised flux recording and 1/1, 1⁄2 and 1⁄4 tempo modes.

It uses the great MiniKORG700s filter. The LFO has 3 waveforms: sawtooth, square & triangle which make for some great modulation variety.
The Volca Keys really packs a lot in, it's very versatile and a true value at such a low cost.

[3.1 lb / 1.4 kg] My expectations were met. My delivery was on time. Great for any age. I highly recommend as a gift. The price was very good. I have played with it everyday. It makes me want to write music with it. I love plugging it up into headphones or speaker system. Built in speaker is not best quality. The bass is insane. I also love playing along with songs. Thank you for your service!
