A: After installing the cartridge and headshell on the tonearm it will need to be balanced with the counterweight. With the tonearm off the rest about an inch or 2 over the platter you will need to adjust the counterweight until the arm is floating parallel with the platter. For most cartridges this should only take a few turns forward on the weight. For heavier cartridges, you will find that the counterweight is unable to balance your tonearm. You can offset the weight of a heavy cartridge by installing the sub-weight on the rear of the tonearm, and follow the balancing procedure again.
