The Schneider 6.6x6.6 Radiant Soft 1/2 Filtercan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles while a glowing effect is applied to skin tones. An array of small, two-dimensional particles distributed within the surface of this filter smooths fine lines and textures, which can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject.

This filter has a grade of 1/2. Grades of 1/4, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase. The small particles within a Radiant Soft filter are optimized to effectively maintain existing contrast and highlights even while higher grade numbers are used.

The Schneider 6.6 x 6.6" Radiant Soft 1/2 Filter is constructed from water white glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 6.6 x 6.6" rectangular filters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this filter screw into a 67-82mm step up ring and can another filter be stacked/screwed into the 82mm Schneider...?

A: Yes this will screw into 67-82 step up ring and it does have front thread

Q: 2. Can I use it with a digital cinema camera? I use blackmagic ursa mini 4k (and don't usually use the autofocus) or should i get the circular one?

A: I use it on my Red Dragon when I use my bright tangerine clip on matte box. It works fine. But, I also have a circular polarizer for my bigger matte box.

Q: 3. Is there much difference between this filter and the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter? The Tiffen is $70 cheaper.

A: The Schneider 77mm Hollywood Black Magic filter would have much higher quality glass and construction compared to a lower cost filter. The higher quality glass is why it has a clean glow as mentioned by another user.

Q: 4. Schneider 4 x 4 Five Slot Filter Pouch can I put Lee seven5 filters in this pouch?

A: Hi Albert,it is perfect for Lee seven5 filters. I use it for the Lee 100mm System.

Q: 5. Does this need a rotating matte box or insert? or is it automatically designed to do its job without rotating?

A: Yes, polarizing filters need to be rotated for optimal effect.

Q: 6. The thickness of it? Thanks

A: 4mm

Q: 7. Anyone have issues with reflections? I just purchased and when filming light I'm getting reflections on the glass. Any tips on not getting that?

A: In my former career, I was a motion picture camera assistant. As such, part of my job before each take was to make sure there were no reflections or hot spots of light hitting the front lens element or the filters. I would use a matte box with top and side flaps to get rid of most of the problems. The rule of thumb was if I was using a longer lens, I could take care of it with the matte box and flaps. However, if using a very wide lens, a matte box and flaps are no good because if you set the flaps to get rid of the flare or hot spot, they are visible in the frame. When that happened, I would ask one of the grips to set a flag at the source of the flare, be it a movie light or the sun. If it was a moving shot, the grip would have to "fly" the flag to make sure the light did not hit the lens. Now, what can a regular guy do without a grip department? Use a sunshade or matte box or a french flag. You might be able to move the offending light or the camera enough to get rid of the flare. Just know if you cannot stop the extraneous light from hitting the front end of the lens, it will be in the image to some degree.

Q: 8. What's the difference between the Linear and Circular versions of 4 x 5.65 please? Do they both require a matte box with a rotating filter tray?

A: Here Linear and Circular refer to the type of Polarizing film in the filter. The confusing Circular term actually has nothing to do with the shape of the filter. It can be round or rectangular, it does not matter. A Linear Polarizer is be used in cameras without auto focus or auto exposure. A Circular Polarizer is to be use in today's digital cameras with their auto focus and auto exposure. You will need a filter holder/matte box with a rotating 4 x 5.56 to use this size Polarizer. However, we recommend that instead of a rectangular Polarizer filter, using a round one for it is much more practical, i.e., easier to use.

Q: 9. Hello! If I use this filter in a RED Matteboxhttp://www.red.com/store/products/red-matte-box-with-full-cage-side-flagswill this filter work fine and do the job? I ask this because I thin it is not possible to rotate the filter tray in this matte-box.Thank you

A: The RED Mattebox in question will support linear 45.6 filter trays and allow you to use the Schneider Circular True-Polarizing Filter (4 x 5.65 ).

Q: 10. Hi, I just bought this filter from BH, and I realized that ours is not receiving the 77mm filter in front of HBM filter. Is it normal? This means that, I cannot use any ND fader or any additional diffusion in addition to this filter. Let me know. Thanks.

A: That is correct; the filter does not have front threads.

[0.9 lb] Added both the Radiant Soft 3 & 4 filters to my kit, used mainly on interviews and talking heads. Of the different types of diffusion, this works nicely for adding a creamy look without blooming highlights too extremely.

[0.9 lb] This the best graduated neutral density filter I ever use. It comes with a very nice storage pouch with clear label on the upper edge. I use it without any holder - just hold it up in front of the lens and make the shoot.

[0.9 lb] Wasn't familiar with this kind of soft focus filters, being used to Hollywood Blackmagics, Pro Mists and Glimmerglasses But after some time spent with it I can only say that I love it. The Radiant Soft 2 adds a unique, yet imperfect halation to the skin tones, while maintaining the shadows almost intact. I'll probably buy a 3 soon.

[0.9 lb] This thing softens the image nicely without making highlights glow too much. Very cinematic.

[0.9 lb] Adds a sweet glow to city lights, night photography and video. Good for skin in darker scenes (in my limited testing); 5 isn't as strong as I expected, but I was looking for a very visible effect. You really see the glow around city lights and bright sky. It makes for a very flared image where there is strong daylight from the sky, but it isn't overwhelming and retains detail. Looking forward to using it for interviews that need a lot of help with skin and night exteriours or dark interiors with lights.
