Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the head diameter of the microphone?

A: I don't have it with me but - with the foam buffer its around 15-18mm without 8-10mm

Q: 2. Is this compatible with the SONY WRT-820A?

A: This microphone is not compatible with any Sony systems. Your Sony wireless system requires a mic with the SMC9-4P connector, such as the Sony ECM-44BC Omni-Directional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with 4-Pin Connector,B&H # SOECM44BC.

Q: 3. will it work with a zoom?

A: The EX-503 will be compatible with devices that have a 3.5mm mic input jack and are able to supply plug in power to the mic. This includes the Zoom H1, H2 and H4N recorders.

Q: 4. I may have missed it, but I can't seem to find the length of the wire - how long is the wire? Bonus question - what would be a good extension if I needed to extend the wire?

A: The cable length is about 4 feet. I don't have a specific extension to recommend, but you'll want to look for a mono audio cable that is 3.5mm TS female to 3.5mm TS male.

Q: 5. Is ex503h mic compatible with sony WRT820A?

A: I am afraid not. The Azden employs a 4-pin mini Hirose Your bodypack uses SONY's proprietary SMC9-4P connector. The pin-assignment may be different:Pin 1: +5 voltsPin 2: HotPin 3: ColdPin 4: Ground

Q: 6. Is Azden EX-503H compatible with SONY WRT820A transmitter?

A: This mic is not compatible with the Sony WRT820A. You would need a mic with a twist-on 4-pin connector that is wired for Sony, such as the Countryman B3 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (Black), B&H # COB3SOBRS.

Q: 7. Can this be plugged into a Sennheiser transmitter? The Sennheiser has a three contact 1/8inch connector, this has only two contacts. Anyone do this already? Thanks!

A: I can't really comment on Sennheiser's equipment, however, if the transmitter has a 3 contact mini-jack, it could be for a balanced connection. If this is the case, it is possible that the 2 contact plug on the EX-503L would work, it just would not be balanced.

Q: 8. Is this the only mic Sennheiser makes with a TA4F connector...or the only one B&H sells? Thanks.

A: The Sennheiser MKE2 Gold Series LAV Microphone with TA4F Connector for Shure Transmitter is indeed a rare item. As Sennheiser and Shure both manufacture wireless microphone systems, they typically don't wire their mics as compatible with transmitters made by other manufacturers, as is the case here.

Q: 9. Will it come with foam and clip or i have to buy it extra??

A: I have three of these. It comes with the foam and clip.

Q: 10. If I combine this with a MiCon-1 adapter can I use it in my RodeLink?

A: No - the MiCon adapter are for RODE lavalier mics only.

[Omnidirectional] I MUST DISAGREE with a previous review from Jonny PA they are durable as much as my sony ones costing 7 times the price. Here's a tip for those of you who are rough or sloppy with your gear. IT'S A WIRE so be careful and don't abuse of it!!! When I put these mics away or ANY set of laws by the way, I observe the original bending marks that came from factory. don't re-bend the cables to fit your bag. Make the BAG fit the cable! Following these suggestions will make your delicate lav wire to last until 2080 or longer. I'm a very busy videographer and do lots of run and gun. Nothing I own ever breaks. I own 2 of these mics with their complete lav system Excellent audio capture. It's quiet, crisp yet gentle on highs and no hiss!I use this on the Azden lav system and ALSO worked flawlessly on a Gopro hero 4 via external audio using this mic.

[Beige] Guys, seriously, go with this microphone. It gives great semi-professional sound, and it's a great price! What I did is I bought a Sony voice recorder and I use this mic plugged into the mic jack of the voice recorder to sync up to my video interviews later...I get great results! I also use a Rode mic ontop of my DSLR for more depth to my interview sound and as backup sound, but I do love this little mic! Highly recommend!

[Plug-In Power] I bought three of the EX-503L lav microphones to replace three older ones I had, two since 2009 and one since 2012. They'd been used a lot, and it comes as no surprise that clients aren't always gentle with the videographer's gear.

They'd been tugged at, knotted up, you name it through the years. Recently, I'd noticed a drop in quality of the audio I was getting from my wireless units.

Replacing the microphones seems to have fixed the problems. I had an all day long corporate shoot where I used all three of my Azden UHF units going into a Zoom H6. The audio was nice and clean. I'm very pleased with the performance of the EX-503L mics.

[Beige] I had to replace the lav microphone for an Azden WR-PRO wireless mic pack (not the microphone's fault... it literally was trampled by the talent...). I tried some quick replacements while this was in the mail, but I was glad when the package showed up since nothing could match the sound of the original. It has great pick-up while also ignoring a lot of background noise, such as a busy highway or a crowded convention hall. If you have an Azden pack, BE SURE TO GET THIS MIC. If you get an electrocet mic that is powered by a battery, you get a bad buzz in the audio line. The only con I have seen is that the tie-clip included is a bit flimsy, doesn't really grip well and is easy to lose.

[Omnidirectional] It's an in-expensive solution to capturing spoken audio. Best use for this unit is spoken work capture for example a groom lavaliere at a wedding. I wouldn't use this for high fidelity capture but, that is not what it's intended for. Actually, I would't use a lavaliere mic for high fidelity audio any way.
