The 3-stop, 62mm Hoya 62mm ND Filter 3-Stophas several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. ND filters create a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. They have no effect on color balance.

Multicoated to minimize reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.

To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars

To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background

To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations

To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is it ok to stack two of these the 3 stop and the 2 stop? will it effect the picture quality? or create any color shift if stacked? also will it work if stacked with cp?

A: Stacking filters will always degrade the image quality

Q: 2. Does it have IR protection ?

A: It is not rated for IR, This is a Neutral Density filter, but I yet have to come up an IR issue using it with my Sony A7RII. If you have IR issues with your sensor often like color shifts I suggest you correct those with a proper IR filter first. A Variable Neutral Density filter works by juxtaposing 2 polarizing filters so there is a highly modified light spectrum left, I wonder if you should be worring about IR at the end. Enjoy. This filter is a game changer specially on travel and run and gun.

Q: 3. Is there a trick for screwing the filter onto the lens and getting the white dot on the top in the middle, so easy to see Min/Max?

A: That is not possible, the dot falls where it may when screwed to a lens.

Q: 4. Will this fit on Sigma 30mm 1.4 Art for Canon?

A: Your Sigma 30mm 1.4 reads 30mm 1:1.4 DC 62 on the barrel. 62 stands for filter thread size. Since this filter is 62mm NDx8, it will fit your lens.

Q: 5. How neutral are the Hoya ND filters?

A: They are very neutral. It does not reduce infrared but that is okay since it is only 3 stops. At higher stops the exposure will be longer and the infrared may cause color shifts, but at 3 stops an ND filter like this is still good since exposures will be shorter.

Q: 6. What is the measurement between the outside edge and the inside edge of the aluminum ring?

A: Please direct your question to Hoya at; Tel: (800) 421-1141 or (714) 849-5700 Website http://www.hoyafilter.com/ Email support@thkphoto.com

Q: 7. I have the sigma 16mm F1.4 and will be taking pictures of buildings and structures on a trip. Will this filter make a difference in the quality of my pictures?? please help, Im a beginner.

A: A quality filter such as Hoya, B+W, or Breakthrough will not diminish the quality of your image. If they did, we would not be able to sell them. The more important question Jose is what do you wish to do with this filter? So that we may be of the best assistance, please write regarding what you wish to do. provideo@bhphoto.com

Q: 8. On a Tamron 18-300 for Fuji (crop), will this have vignetting at 18mm? If so, what thread should I move up to (stock is 67mm)?

A: The Tiffen 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filter will not vignette the image on the Tamron 18-300mm lens. I would recommend considering the 77mm version (and a 67 to 77mm step up ring) because that would allow use on more lenses.

Q: 9. What type of filter do you use to get knife photography twinkle lights

A: To get twinkle lights when photographing a knife, you need to do a double exposure with the Hoya Star 8X Filter (77mm), BH #HOS877Z, and a grain of wheat bulb attached to a battery. You could get the bulb at a hobby shop.

Q: 10. Is this filter compatible with 16-50 mm lens (Sony a6000 kit lens)? Thanks you.

A: Because the 16-50 would need a 40.5mm filter, to use this filter you would need a step-up ring.

[Multi Coated] this filter is great for shooting in bright light. I shoot a lot of waterfalls and it helps balance the light between the white water and the dark rocks in the creek.
