Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with the Nikon d7000?

A: Yes the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon F is compatible with the Nikon D7000 camera.

Q: 2. Will the vibration control function work on film camera bodies or just digital bodies?

A: It depends of what body film camera you are using, the vibration control works powered by the battery of your camera. If the autofocus works, the vibration control should work as well. I hope this is helpful!

Q: 3. is the lens made in Japan?

A: Yes , designed and made in Japan

Q: 4. Sorry for the unrelated question, but should I get an ND filter or a polarizer for this lens? I am mostly into filmmaking but occasionally take photos. Thanks!

A: An ND filter acts like sunglasses for the camera. It allows you to use a wider aperture in bright light. Many times ND is used in film making if you want to use a wide 1.8 aperture during the day. Since you need to keep the shutter speed constant in filmmaking you need the ND filter to balance out the exposure during the day and keep the aperture at 1.8. ND filter will also allow you to slow down the shutter speed to take photos and show movement of water hitting rocks in a coast line or clouds moving overhead. A polarizer is used to reduce reflections from water, glass, metal, leaves, grass.

Q: 5. Has anyone sent this to Tamron to calibrate/improve autofocus performance? What was the result?

A: No I havent bit I did buy the TAP in console and am very happy with the autofocus accuracy not that the lens is calibrated to my camera. Im using a Nikon D810 and have both the 35mm and the 85mm lenses and both are working great. Sharpness is outstanding with the 85mm and the 35mm isnt quite as sharp but still very good. The autofocus speed is good but not great but Im not doung any action sports photography either.

Q: 6. Will this lens communicate with Canon mirrorless cameras (EOS M6) with adapter?

A: If you use an adapter like the Canon EF-M Lens Adapter Kit for Canon EF / EF-S Lenses, B&H # CALA, then yes it should. With the adapter the lens will communicate to the camera. https://bhpho.to/2gPv5mm

Q: 7. Does it include len hood?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 8. Will this work with a canon 5D mark iii?

A: Since my 7D Mk II is a cop factor lens, I had to look it up. Two sources said it's a full-frame compatible lens, although I didn't see anything about it on Tamron's page, but I just glanced. You 5D Mk III is a full-frame camera. I really like this lens. It's been on my camera almost all the time since I got it. Love the macro capability.

Q: 9. Just wondering, could I use a 67mm to 77mm step up ring with this lens hood? Thanks!

A: I don't think the hood would fit over the step ring.

Q: 10. can this be used with canon 5d mark ii?

A: Certainly! :)

[Plastic] Got this on a deal zone day for $359. Works excellent on Nikon Z5 with the FtoZ adapter. Worth considering the price. This is also won the TIPA awards.

As the Z lenses are very expensive (nikon z 35mm f1.8 S is $697), I did a lot of research whether to buy this or the Tamron f1.4 ($699) or the NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED ($477) and decided to go with this.

Only cons is, this might be lil heavy compared to the Z lens..... but it is half the price of the Z lens.

Thank you B&H!

[Bayonet] I had an opportunity to try one more these lenses last year. I purchased the Canon Effects edition with use in a Fringer adapter for my Fujifilm X-E3 camera. It works magnificently. It produces quality photos with sharpness.

[Plastic] I spent an unhealthy amount of time deliberating if I should choose this or spend the extra creds for its 1.4 brother, a Nikon or heavens forbid, a Sigma. Boy, I'm glad I went with this. Here's why:

1) It's got a small body compared to the 1.4 Tamron or Sigma. For street or documentary work, you don't want to be walking around with a lens that looks like a Cannon (pun intended).
2) It's got a great build quality that belies its price, weather sealing too! I feel confident enough to take this and my D850 in a bit of drizzle if necessary.
3) The ability to go near Macro is a big win. I don't like too much equipment and the fact that this can do almost as good a job as a macro lens is a big win. I'll likely sell the Macro.
4) The image quality on my copy is great. I've heard some people mention the chromatic aberration, but I haven't noticed it thus far. I suppose pixel peepers may be able to point it out, but these things can be clicked out in post in a second.

For my kind of work, if someone offered me the other options for less money I wouldn't take them. This is small enough and practical. I've heard the 1.4 Tamron is a class leader though.

[Bayonet] I picked this lens up to complement my setup for wedding photography. Particularly, I was interested in the wide-aperture and lightness of this lens. I picked the f/1.8 over the f/1.4 for the lens stabilization which is critical for the handheld video I occasionally do on hybrid shoots (for a much more in-depth review for weddings, check out Taylor Jacksons review on YouTube). The build quality is wonderful and feels as good as my much more expensive Canon L glass. The size is wonderful for a small kit setup. The only downsize I have found is that the chromatic aberration wide-open can be a bit high with a bright background but that hasn't caused any real world issue while shooting.

[0.06 lb] I just received yesterday, and make some tests. I love the touch, the materials, the focus accuracy, the smooth transitions between focus point is great for video, and the great aperture to work in low light conditions, specially in videos.
