This Cooke 50mm T2.3 Anamorphic/i Prime Lens PL Mountfeatures the classic, natural yet sharp "Cooke look" in an anamorphic format. One of Cooke's extensive Anamorphic/i series, the 50mm prime incorporates an 11-blade iris for cinematic-looking, 2:1 oval bokeh. Designed for use with both digital cinema and film cameras, the Cooke Anamorphic/i primes provide a 2x squeeze and cover image formats up to Super35. For maximum optical performance, aberration, flare, and distortion correction extend over the entire image area, and throughout the 50mm's T2.3-22 aperture range. The Anamorphic/i primes are color-matched with Cooke's S4/i, 5/i, and mini S4/i series of prime lenses.

Each Anamorphic/i prime sports both a hardened PL mount and a cable connection that uses Cooke's /i Technology to transmit lens data to compatible cameras. Lens setting data including focal length, aperture, focus, and depth-of-field, are provided in both feet and metric measurements.

The 50mm Anamorphic/i Prime Lens features a 22" minimum focus distance, focus marks in feet and meters, a relatively light weight of 7.9 lb, and a compact length of 7.7". The lens is constructed with 0.8 MOD geared focus and iris rings for use with follow focus, zoom control, and wireless FIZ systems. A large lens barrel, an increased number of focus marks, and Cooke's cam-style focus movement enable precise focus pulls. Focus marks are clearly visible and engraved on the lens barrel in both feet and meters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Which Sigma hard case does the 65mm fit?

A: It would work with the Sigma PMC-002 Hard Case for 5x FF High Speed Prime Cine Lenses. If you own the five lens set you would need to remove one lens to fit the additional 65mm lens. Also you could use the following case to store extra lenses like the 65mm or the lens you remove from PMC-002 to fit the 65mm. Pelican 1510 Carry-On Case with Foam Set (Black) B&H # PE1510FB

Q: 2. How much does the lens itself weight? The specs only list package weight

A: The PL version weighs 1.5 kg / 3.3 lb.

Q: 3. Will it be possible to change from PL mount to E mount if desired?

A: Yes, through a PL to E adapter like the DZOFilm Octopus Lens Adapter - PL to Sony E (BH #DZOADPLEBLK).

Q: 4. What options are available and recognized by NISI to convert this from PL to EF-mount? Can it be converted to EF-mount?

A: The NiSi ATHENA PRIME 50mm T1.9 Full-Frame Lens (PL Mount) cannot be converted to EF-mount. This lens is designed for PL and Mirrorless systems.

Q: 5. Is there a photo version? Sigma Art 65mm EF? With AF etc

A: There is no photography version in EF mount of the Sigma 65mm ART lens.

Q: 6. Is it possible to change the mount on an E mount lens to a PL mount? I have a Sony camera now, but in case I change cameras late

A: It is not possible. I would get the PL version and use an E-mount adapter if you want the most flexibility in the future.

Q: 7. Refurbished in what way? Also, what serial number is it? I have a 6 lens set and I need a 180mm to complete it on the long end.

A: This lens right here is not refurbished. We do not have the serial number to give out but you will receive it in the box when you order. Our items come directly from the manufacturer, even the refurbished models.

Q: 8. what size mattebox can be used for this? looking to pair it with Red Epic Helium and adding ND and diffusion filter.

A: Yes, Please review what Matte boxes are available for the following unit we highly suggest 6x6 units to future proof your system. https://bhpho.to/40IB8zF

Q: 9. Do the single lenses come in a case?

A: No. the DZOFilm PAVO 40mm T2.1 2x Anamorphic Prime Lens (Neutral Coating, PL/EF Mount, Feet) does not come in a case, however a case can be purchased for the lens, such as the DZOFilm Hard Case for 1 PAVO Anamorphic Lens (BH #DZCASEPA1 • MFR #DZO-CASEPA1). See: https://bhpho.to/46ieIbA

Q: 10. Is EF mount an option with extended data support?

A: The EF mount does not support the Cooke /i Technology protocol, so transferring meta data with this mount type is not possible. However, the meta data can be captured through the 4-pin Lemo connector on the lens barrel using Ambient's Master Lock-It Plus. [50mm] I've used ROKINON lenses which were quite above average. The Sirui anamorphic lens was even better. I just finished my first feature using the Sirui. Now that I just used this Meike FF on my Bmpcc4k for my trailer.... I am just blown away by the depth of field, bokeh and color depth of this lens. The quality, the weight, the build quality is on par to a much more expensive cine lens. This is the range of a 5k plus cine lens. I'm planning on buying the other focal lengths as well

[50mm] I have all 3 of the available PL mount versions of these lenses. I used on 2 proffesional shoots and WOW WOW WOW - I still cant get over the IQ for the price but with only 1 gripe---lets get out of way-- (no focus marks on AC side) not a big deal using FF on op side typically or remote FF if I have an AC so its not really an issue) If you are looking here you like consider the DZO Vespid line. TRUE they have a full set. However they have a very vintage look with oval bokeh and bad CA(on a few focal lengths) Those are smaller lighter and MARGNIALLY sharper true) however these lens have very little CA very little if any breathing depending on FL- propper full 330 rotation on focus, they are bigger but still small- However dont look SILLY on my RED like the Vespids do. I cant say this enough MEIKE hit a homerun here and I have ZERO regrets. Just wish the whole set was already available (24mm coming end of NOV 21) ---you cant go wrong here.

[33.5 mm] I seriously LOVE what these lenses do as an intro set of Cine glass. As a long time Sigma Art series user I didn't realize how much of an upgrade this was going to be from Photo glass. I'm super happy with the money i spent on this and also the 35mm. I will be getting the 24mm and 85mm ASAP!

[Super35/APS-C] This lens is my bread and butter. For all of my client work I need something with a consistent look across the entire aperture range. Up until purchasing this lens my primary client glass was a sigma 24-70 2.8, which although beautiful, got soft when zoomed in to 50mm and under performed in other areas.

Aside from the performance of this lens, there are two things I adore: It's construction and color consistency. Despite being incredibly light, this lens is built like a tank. I travel frequently and it holds up very well. Because Zeiss improved the color rendition in the CP.3 line, I often rent the 85 or 100mm for my b-cam and have a easy time matching up cameras.

Much of my client work requires cropping in substantially (thanks Instagram) and I can comfortably shoot this at it's minimum aperture of T2.1 for a tack sharp image that can be scaled up in post.

I think this lens' greatest competition is the Canon CN-E line, which shoots warm and renders terrible onion skinning on the bokeh. For me this is unforgivable, and I'm happy to see a neutral, clean image coming from the CP.3 line. Assuming this is the look you need, I'm not sure you can get a better lens in this price bracket.

[33.5 mm] A lot of bokeh at 65mm, but one of the lightest ones in the Orion set (besides the 32mm). Lighter than 40mm
