Unlike many white-light solar filters that produce views of the sun with a red-orange, bluish, or yellow tint, the Baader AstroSolar 60mm White-Light Solar Filter for Binocularsreveals the sun in its natural white color to show more surface details with greater clarity. The filter is mounted onto a clear-white IR-rejecting plastic ring, which acts as a stabilizing element for the filter cell, and the ring is in turn mounted onto the aluminum front frame. The thermal expansion coefficient of the plastic and the film are similar to minimize thermal stress on the film for increased resistance to developing pinholes or tears.

With the ability to be installed on the outside or inside of a binocular optical tube or camera lens, this filter provides a safe way to view the sun or to capture images with a camera. To fit most binocular configurations, one side of the filter housing is cut off and should be installed on the inside of the optical tube to prevent the housings from interfering with each other when the bridge is nearly closed. Recommended for objectives from 50-70mm, the filter is engineered with three centering bolts that can fit housings and lenses with an outside diameter of 91-106mm or an inside diameter of 65-80mm (if inside mounting is possible). Installation and removal are quick and easy with no tools or permanent modification to the optic or lens required. This is a single solar filter; for proper use on binoculars, two filters must be ordered.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. My Nikon Action EX 16x50 binos have an outside diameter of exactly 60mm. Should I order the 60mm filters or the 70mm?

A: The Alpine Astronomical 60mm Baader AstroSolar White-Light Solar Filter for Binoculars (Single) would be too large to fit 16x50 binoculars. This Daystar kit would fit instead: https://bhpho.to/3qFnkJe

Q: 2. what is the ND equivalent of this filter?

A: The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 65-89mm OD) is a solar filter and not an ND. So there is no density rating for it.

Q: 3. Skywatcher Evoster 100 ED. Would this size fit my telescope?

A: Yes this Filter will work with that Model.

Q: 4. Any chance to fit Sky-Watcher 70mm ?

A: We created the Eclipsmart Solar Filters to be perfectly fit on Celestron telescopes. I can not say with any certainty that they will fit another telescope outside Celestron's

Q: 5. Will this fit over the opening of a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 L-series lens?

A: Easy . I used this filter on Sigma 50-500mm with outside diameter of 95mm . Perfect .

Q: 6. Can I use this to take photos of the sun for practice of the upcoming solar eclipse?

A: Yes. The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter can be used for solar photography with or without an eclipse.

Q: 7. Does this fit STARSENSE EXPLORER DX 130AZ? Thanks in advance.

A: Yes. The Celestron EclipSmart White-Light Solar Filter for 127/130mm Reflector OTAs will fit the Celestron DX130AZ telescope.

Q: 8. What storage container would you recommend for a pair of these filters? Thanks

A: It would be best to use the box the filter comes in or use this Print File box: https://bhpho.to/3uHvHCQ

Q: 9. how can I adapt the Baader U-Filter 2" to a Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1:1.8G Lens?

A: 2" is the outside diameter of the filter, not the thread. It's an M48 thread as stated on the manufacturer website, baader-planetarium. Use a normal step-up ring.

Q: 10. Why do you need the filter if you are wearing proper safety glasses?

A: You need the filter to protect your camera's sensor before and after totality. You should remove it during totality. Also, use the camera's display screen and not the viewfinder to protect your eyes.

[2.4 oz / 69.0 g] The first thing I do when I buy a new telescope is order the basics, this being one of them.

[120 mm] The Baader Filters have been the 'Gold Standard' for both Visual and Imaging.

However the thin film material must be carefully handled.

[2.4 oz / 69.0 g] This solar filter is a great buy. I am going to use it on my astroseeker 70az during the Aug. 21 eclipse. It didn't fit perfectly (probably because it is made for the power seeker models) but still fit on and i secured it with 3 strips of duct tape so it wouldn't pop off accidentally. I had no problems with it in the heat but I wouldn't recommend to use it on a really hot day for to long as it can warp and eventually break. Just remember to be safe.

[60mm] I purchased this filter to be able to use my telescope on the solar eclipse. I've tested it and it seems to work as advertised. I got a clear image of the sun through the telescope with it and no worry about eye problems.

[60mm] Arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. Applies and removes from telescope easily. This is my first solar filter, so have nothing to compare to, but appears to filter out the harmful rays and provide a nice image.

[60mm] This solar filter is just great. I used it on my astroseeker 70az. It isn't made for this model of telescope but it fit over the end with some assistance from duct tape. Even if it didn't need the duct tape to stay on, I still recommend it for safety. Also, don't use it for too long on a particularly hot and sunny day for too long because the filter could have a chance of warping or even breaking. Overall, wonderful product recommended to anyone who wants to see sun spots or the eclipse close up.
