With an apochromatic design, the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Lens Sony Efrom Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2 Lens Sony Ewill be able to deliver crisp, aberration-free imagery, even with the high resolutions of modern digital sensors. This lens is designed to work with full-frame Sony E-mount cameras where it offers users the ability to get close to their subjects thanks to the 1:2 magnification ratio afforded by the 12.2" minimum focus distance. It also boasts outstanding sharpness, helped in part by an aspherical element, meaning users will be able to resolve the finest details in their subjects. On top of this, the lens features a relatively fast f/2 aperture, which will enable the creation of images with a shallow depth of field as well as in low-light conditions.

The all-metal construction is designed to last and offers full manual operation for tactile control during shooting. This includes a manual focus ring and a manual aperture ring with 1/3 click stops. A 10-blade diaphragm is also present for smooth bokeh while electronic contacts will automatically transmit data to the camera for use of advanced functions, including in-body image stabilization. Additionally, it comes with a lens hood to block stray light from entering the lens.

Designed for full-frame E-mount cameras, this 65mm lens is also compatible with APS-C format systems where it provides an equivalent focal length of 97.5mm.

The lens' apochromatic design practically eliminates longitudinal chromatic aberrations, making this lens a high-performing option for demanding digital image sensors.

One aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity, sharpness, and resolution.

Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 12.2", which grants macro capabilities with a magnification ratio of 1:2.

The manual aperture ring uses traditional 1/3-stop clicks for more intuitive tactile control over exposure settings.

Ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth quality of bokeh.

Included lens hood guards the front lens element and also helps to control lens flare and ghosting.

Contacts transfer all Exif data between the camera and lens in order to permit full use of camera functions, including focus magnification, image stabilization, and lens corrections.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does the lens hood attach? Looking at the pictures of the lens I don't see any bayonets on the barrel for attaching one, but the description says a hood is included. Does it screw on the filter threads?

A: It screws onto the front of the lens via filter thread. Truth be told though, the front element is recessed a long way back from the end of the lens so a hood is mostly unnessacassary.

Q: 2. if you use a filter of any type, can you still use the lens hood?

A: Yes, you can screw the filter on the lens and then screw the hood into the filter.

Q: 3. Lens hood included? Foot-leg to tripod mount not available nor applicable?

A: Lens Hood is Not included. suggest the Sensei PRO 58mm Aluminum Lens Hood BH #SELHM58 • MFR #LHM-58.

Q: 4. What is the free working distance of this lens (e.g., distance from lens to object focused at 1:2 magnification)?I see that the minimum focusing distance is 12.2 , but that isn't my question.

A: Johnathan, I just measured the working distance of the Voighlander 65mmat its closest focus point and it is between 7 and 6.inches. Hopefully that meets your needs as everything about this lens is great especially the image quality. It really is as good as people have said. It is old school quality, the only thing. I would like to see changed is the magnification 1:1.5 is a little small for my. needs.Good luck

Q: 5. Is the vintage Yashica ML-100 f3.5 macro yc mount lens similar in design ?

A: The (discontinued) Yashica ML 100mm f/3.5 Macro Lens and the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 110mm f/2.5 Lens for Sony-E have different lens designs. They have not been compared to one another as the Yashica ML 100mm f/3.5 Macro Lens has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase. Both would be macro lenses that have similar focal length ranges, but they are not identical. The Yashica ML 100mm f/3.5 Macro Lens had a 1:2 (half life-size) magnification ratio at the closest focsuing distance, had a 17.3 inch (0.44m) minimum focus distance, and had siz (6) aperture blades. The lens weighed 0.95 lb (430 g) and used 55mm filter threads. Meanwhile, the Voigtlander MACRO APO-LANTHAR 110mm f/2.5 Lens for Sony-E has a 1:1 (full life-size) magnification ratio, has a 13.78 inch (35 cm) minimum focus distance, has 10 aperture blades for smoother and rounder bokeh, weighs 1.7 lb (771 g), and uses 58mm filters.

Q: 6. Does the lens transfer EXIF data to the camera?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. Can this be stacked via 2 adapters--sony to Leica M and then Leica M to Leica L?

A: No, it won't be compatible.

Q: 8. Does the lens transfer EXIF data to the camera?

A: Using a Sony a7 series camera all of your data is recorded as usual for each frame. In addition it is one of the sharpest macro lenses I have ever owned

Q: 9. where is it made and how is the warranty?

A: Hi, the Voigtlander 65mm f/2 is made in japan. This lens has a Limited 1 Year Manufacture Warranty.

Q: 10. Can the Sony 1.4x teleconverter be mounted on this lens?

A: No, I am sorry. The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter (BH #SOTC14 • MFR #SEL14TC) is only compatible with specific lens models: FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS

[Full-Frame] Manually you set the f stop and the focus. Neither is hard to do. Magnified live view helps a lot in focusing. I like the color rendering and sharpness, excellent detail. This lens feels solid and well made. I haven't seen any chromatic aberrations. I've used zeiss lenses a lot for many years. This lens reminds me of those, but it's native z mount!

[0.5x] A joy to use. Focusing takes some turns, but that makes it super-precise. Love it!

[1:2] I must say after 22 years of professional photography, it is incredible that one may purchase a lens of this calibre for so little money.

What this lens can do in terms of controlling all aberrations and producing not only an incredibly razor sharp image, but also a beautiful looking image leaves me speechless.

It is truly an amazing optic that will be the last lens ever sell. Brilliant glass and mechanics. AAAAA+++++

[65mm] I bought this lens from B&H. The lens is really great and it is a lovely macro that goes very well with my new Nikon ZF. The lens is very sharp and the shallow depth of field on wide aperture has a beautiful rendering.

[65mm] I literally fell in love once I saw the image through Zf view finder. And of course the picture is as good as expected.
Only a negative point to me is the too narrow adjustment room (angle) in the far distance, which means, this lens works really superb not only as a macro but a std. lens. Strongly recommended!!!

[65mm] I got this for my Nikon Zf and have yet to use it for that purpose. I put it on my Z8 to test it out and it hasn't come off the camera. The only other lens I use for macro is the Z 105mm 2.8 and I must say, this lens is not as optically perfect. There are slight aberrations and some purple fringing when pixel peeping. I tried doing a product shoot with a Nintendo Switch console, and the edges weren't sharp at f/11. I'm planning on utilizing this lens mostly as Macro and portrait, and for macro it could definitely use an extension tube.

-The bokeh is creamy and smooth
-Build quality is amazing
-Focus ring is smooth and throw is longer for fine tuned focus.
