The RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS to XLR Adapter with Phantom Poweris an adapter that lets you connect a mic equipped with a 3.5mm TRS connector to the XLR input of a professional camera, recorder, or mixer.

The VXLR+ also converts 12 to 48V phantom power down to 3 to 5V plug-in power, allowing lavalier, headset, and shotgun mics to receive power from the XLR connector.

Compact and lightweight, the adapter is terminated by a 3.5mm female TRS connector at one end and an XLR male connector at the other. The 3.5mm connector is threaded to ensure your mic doesn't disconnect during recording.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this let me connect a Rode Wireless Go receiver to the Rodecaster Pro?

A: No. You should use this one: Rode VXLR - Mono Mini-Jack to XLR Converter BH #ROVXLR: https://bhpho.to/398Q5Rk

Q: 2. Can I use this to connect my RodeMicGo to my Sony Fs7?

A: Yes, you can use the VXLR+ which is designed for use with microphones that require plug-in power.

Q: 3. Does this work with the Deity D3 pro microphone ?

A: No. Because the D3 is self powered you can use the regular VXLR https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/387850-REG/Rode_VXLR_VXLR_Mono_Mini_Jack.html

Q: 4. Can someone describe what is connected to each 1/8 in. connection (tip. ring, sleeve) in terms of signal, power, and ground? (This would help to answer a lot of other questions.)

A: The specific TRS input wiring schematic is not available for the Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, however we can confirm that the VXLR+ is compatible with microphones using the 3.5mm "Sennheiser" wiring configuration for compatibility. This adapter is not compatible with microphones wired for compatibility with Sony input connections.

Q: 5. is this needed for zoom h6 and rode wireless go?

A: No. The adapter you want is the Rode VXLR (B&H # ROVXLR) since you only need to convert the 3.5mm plug to XLR. The VXLR+ is used when you are using a condenser style microphone like a lavalier mic with a 3.5mm connector and need to connect it to an XLR mic input on a recorder or mixer. For instance, if you have a separate lavalier mic that you use with the Wireless GO transmitter, such as the Rode Lavalier GO, it is a condenser mic that requires plug-in power, which is a low voltage. A recorder or mixer's XLR input can supply phantom power, which is typically 48V and way too much power for a lavalier mic. The VXLR+ converts the 48V to a much lower voltage and allows you to use a mic like the Lavalier GO which requires 2.7V and connect it directly to an XLR input on the H6.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Deity W lav Pro (that is, instead of the similar Deity adapter)? Thanks!

A: This adapter should work with the mini jack connection provided in the W lav kit.

Q: 7. Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic With a Sennheiser 3.5 EW connector work properly with this adapter please?

A: My previous answer may be inaccurate. Some COS-11D microphones are 48V Phantom and some are +3V to +10V. You will need to determine the power requirements of your microphone. The VXLR Plus provides 5 Volts.

Q: 8. Can this allow me to use a RODE videomicGO on a SONY HXR-NX100? The Sony only has XLR inputs.

A: It should. I use it on all my cameras that have XLR inputs and it works great.

Q: 9. I'd like to use the 9V battery powered Rode Videomic (VIDEOMIC-R) to connect with a Zoom PodTrak P4. Will a standard VXLR converter work with that, or do I need this VXLR+ for it? Thanks!

A: With 9V battery installed, the standard VXLR converter will work.

Q: 10. Would it work for SmartLav+ to Zoom H6 XLR inputs?

A: Yes it will but you will need to get an adapter for your SmartLav as the connector on the SmartLav is a TRRS. In order for you to use the XLR Power Converter you will need an adapter to change the lav connector from TRRS to TRS. This is the B&H part number for the adapter B&H#ROSC3. Once your TRRS becomes a TRS them you can use the XLR power converter with the H6.

[1] It works flawlessly with lapel mics, Sennheiser MKE2 and Sanken 11D.
It allows one to test the lapel mics directly into a preamp.
The lapel mics also work using this adapter with a plug-on transmitter for stage mics.

[1] arrived faster than it was supposed to, works perfect. Still using it half a year later when writing this review. I use mine to connect a Lavalier microphone to a yamaha mixer board for Twitch streaming. The sound quality is easily just as good if not better than using a bulky common streamer mic that is intrusive to viewing my screen and keyboard.

[1] Can't tell you, but it works just as well. It does what it says, nothing more or less. Can't complain. (OK, the clip might be a TOUCH more sturdy, I do worry it'll break, being plastic (sadly), but it's not a deal breaker.

[5.5 x 3.1 x 1"] I have a mixer that provides 48V phantom power but want to use an electret condenser microphone which operates off a bias voltage of 5V. The adapter not only adapted the XLR connection to a 3.5mm TRS connection it also converted the phantom power to bias voltage.

The connections are solid and perfectly fitting into my mixer and the TRS jack makes a solid connection that will not fall out. Both important to me.

When I was ordering I appreciated this was available in a well respected brand like Rode. The last thing I want is some cheap part failing in the middle of a performance!

That's why this is a 5 star part for me.

[1] This is good if you want to plug a lavaliere like the Rode Lavaliere Go (or in my case, Giant Squid) into an XLR interface with phantom power. In my testing so far, I tried both a Rode Videomic GO Ii and my Giant Squid and turned on phantom power, and I did not have any problems getting it to work. The clip makes connection kind of awkward, but you really need to connect it to a cable instead of straight in your preamp.

[1] I purchased a RØDE NTH-100M headset for my podcaster-wife for Christmas. It worked perfectly out of the box when plugged into her PC for Zoom interviews. But she sometimes records episodes in-person with a co-host, and for that we use a Scarlett 2i2 interface. I had hoped that the splitter cable which comes with the headset would work with the interface, but it didn't. RØDE Support suggested the VXLR+ adapter. B&H got the item to us promptly and it appears to have solved the problem.

[1] I purchased this along with the Rode Rodelink Lav microphone. The thread-lock on the 3.5mm connector of the lav fits perfectly with connector on the Rode VXLR+. This allows me to belt-clip (included) the converter to the talent and run an XLR mic cable back to the mixer with phantom power when needed in place of connecting the lav to a bodypack for wireless use. It also works with the non-locking 3.5mm connector of the Rode Lavalier Go mic but this combination gives more assurance that the mic's connector won't pull out of the adapter.

[0.14 lb] I have used these several times with the Mini Pluggy EM258 mics in a Zoom F3, and the Stereo results are phenomenal. I added the Bubblebee Wind Bubbles and now have a compact, easy-to-use, stereo recording setup. I have also tried the VXLR with a pair of MOVO MV-M101 Gooseneck mics with similar results, very good.

[1] This was just the accessory I was looking for, but worried how it would fit (loose/tight?), but it worked just as expected with no issues.

[0.14 lb] I purchased 3 adapters before this one. I was not aware that, even though my recorder supplied phantom power, it required an adapter such as this one for my lav mic to actually work.
