Polsen Pcr-65 Cardioid Condenser Microphone For Studio Recording

$149.97 $182.96

The PCR-65 from Polsen is a cardioid condenser microphone designed for full-range reproduction of vocals and instruments in podcasts, recording studios, and broadcast environments. Its side-address, pressure-gradient design utilizes a large 1" diaphragm with a cardioid polar pattern, which minimizes the pickup of off-axis sounds and impedes feedback. The microphone boasts a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, allowing it to accurately transduce the frequencies of a variety of sounds. Its high sensitivity and 125 dB maximum SPL ensure that you can use it on quiet or loud sources, from whispered vocals to pounding drums.

The PCR-65 has a sturdy, metal housing with an alloy finish. The supplied custom shockmount decouples the mic from vibrations and rumble that would otherwise transfer from the floor to the mic. Use the desktop tripod stand for convenient tabletop placement during interviews and podcasts. Phantom power (12 to 52 VDC) is required.

The 1" capsule's cardioid polar pattern is least sensitive to sound behind the microphone, allowing better rejection of room reflections, which is ideal for capturing vocals and close-miked instruments with greater clarity

The 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response is sufficiently wide to deliver a warm, natural sound for a variety of sources, from the low drone of a double bass to the high shimmer of cymbals to the powerful presence of a vocal

The microphone's high sensitivity allows it to be used on quiet sources such as a soft voice, without extreme gain, and its high maximum SPL of 125 dB ensures that it can handle loud sounds such as a drum, without distortion

Metal construction with an alloy finish enables the mic to hold up to the demands of studio and stage environments

The supplied shockmount, which decreases pickup of rumble and vibrations, can be mounted on a standard mic stand or the included desktop tripod

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work for the BMPCC4K

A: No, the BOYA BY-MM1 Mini Cardioid Condenser Microphone is not compatible for direct connection to the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. The BY-MM1 requires plug-in power which the camera does not provide through its 3.5mm mic input. As another option, you may want to consider the BOYA BY-BM3011 Camera-Mount Cardioid Shotgun Microphone ( B&H # BOBYBM3011) or the Opteka VM-8 Directional Mini-Shotgun Microphone (B&H # OPOPVM8) which both operate using a single AAA battery and are around the same price. Any other battery-powered mic with a 3.5mm TRS connector will also work with the BMPCC4K.

Q: 2. Does this require phantom power from the hot shoe or not require any power and can go in cold shoe extension?

A: This mic requires Plug-in Power from either a camera, recorder, or smartphone over the trs or trrs mic input connection.

Q: 3. Hello. I wonder how noisy it is? How does it work for recording low volume stuff?

A: The AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphone is designed for general instrument capturing, vocals, amplifier cabinets, and similar applications. It's signal to noise ratio is 75db and has a max SPL of 145db. It features a Cardioid polar pattern, reducing sound pickup from the sides and rear, improving isolation of the desired sound source.

Q: 4. Could this mic also be used as an overhead for an interview with good results?

A: Unlikely. It is not designed for that purpose. Dependant on distance and room acoustics; this mic is designed for close proximity, generally within inches of a musical instrument. That said, in a quiet room, with 1-2' of distance this mic MAY obtain good results for a single person.

Q: 5. Does it work with huawei mate 10? And is recognized by apps like Smule?

A: Yes. With a USB C to 3.5mm TRRS adaptor: B&H #: ILI115ADBK this mic will work.

Q: 6. Does this mic work with Nikon d3300 camera? Dose it mount directly on the shoe or do you need a special mount?

A: This mic is compatible with the d3300 and can mount directly onto the cold shoe of the camera.

Q: 7. What is the best shock mount for the Rode NT3 condenser mic?

A: The RODE NT3 3/4" Cardioid Condenser Microphone comes with the RODE Stand Mount for NT3, 4, and Other Condenser Microphones (B&H # RORM3), but you can use a shock mount like the Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII Microphone Suspension - Lyre Shockmount (B&H # RYINVHGMKIII) or the Rycote INV-BH InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting (B&H # RYIVBH), which will both accommodate the NT3 on a stand or boompole.

Q: 8. "You can power the mic with 48V phantom power." This sentence is in the description for this product. I don't understand. Is it necessary to buy an additional accessory to use this mic?

A: In order to use this mic, you will need a mixer, interface, or hardware recorder with an XLR mic input, and the ability to provide 48v phantom power. As well, you would need an XLR mic cable to connect it to either of those sources, a mic stand to attach it to, and a pop filter if recording vocals.

Q: 9. Is it good for recording singer to motu m2?

A: Yes, the Polsen PCR-65 Cardioid Condenser Microphone would work well to record vocals into the Motu M2 interface.

Q: 10. Hi, since this mic is no longer availbile, which would be a similar mic?

A: The AKG P170 (B&H #AKP170B) could be considered quite similar to the Audio-Technica AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphone.

[Phantom Power] I've been extremely impressed by the sound quality coming out of this $80 microphone. I use it when I need to record a high-quality voice-over, but not so high quality that I need to go to an actual recording studio. The setup couldn't be simpler. The mic comes with a desktop tripod/shockmount, which I place on a table in my office. I plug the mic directly into my Tascam DR-40 audio recorder, which supplies the phantom power. I position myself about six inches from the mic, hit record, and begin talking. That's it. My office isn't a perfect acoustic space, but it's not bad, and the recordings coming from this mic sound rich and upfront. (You really can't beat a large diaphragm condenser for voice-overs.) When I bring the files into my audio program, there's no need to do much EQing; it's pretty much already dialed in to that crisp sound I like. I just add a little compression and the sample is ready to go. I'm loving the convenience of this setup for a quick voice-over, and the quality of the end result is really high considering the price point.

[Side Address] 2020 - Smooth lows, crisp highs, and natural midrange. A fantastic mic at a very good value. 2021 - Excellent for highs and midrange. Unfortunally gets overwhelmed easily by lows. However, for most of its applications that is not a problem.

[12 to 52 V] Audio sounds great for the price. I’ve had no issues at all. Mostly used in Discord. The headphones aren’t great but fine for basically a freebie when I mostly wanted the mic and usb phantom power. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a budget condenser mic!

[Side Address] This mic is impressive. I purchased this with a Polsen usb audio interface and spent today doing some experimentation with it.

I started a vocal recording using my Amazon Echo as a source and basically did a cover of a favorite song. When I went to do the playback, I was completely blown away by the amount of secondary rejection this mic is capable of. The Amazon Echo was actually fairly loud, but it wasn't present in the final recording (there is some of it in the final output, but it is so much attenuated, you'd have to find a silent passage to hear it). If you are doing vocals without using headphones, this is a great choice. The tone and response of the microphone are great - I could not tell this wasn't a much more expensive piece of gear. I also tested handling noise and the shock mount is very effective at dampening coupled noises.

The only negative I can give here is that the desktop stand is not that great. I spent yesterday in the shop making a new desktpp stand that doesn't tip over if you look at it funny. The stand it comes with is poorly balanced, so that will be your first upgrade.
