Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, can I use this device for live streaming using 2 cameras?

A: No, it only has one hdmi input.

Q: 2. Many capture devices specify 4K input but are limited to HD output. Description for this unit is not clear to me. Does this unit provide 4K recording output?

A: Yes it does. This capture device will record up to 4096xx2160 on your computer.

Q: 3. is software included in the box?

A: You can download it from Magewell's website here: http://www.magewell.com/usb-capture-utility-v3

Q: 4. Apple computers (All) invert/flip or mirror video signals. Because of this when using FaceTime or Skype text appears backwards. This capture card states it supports flip/mirroring... is this feature available when using FaceTime or Skype?

A: According to Magewell the USB Capture Utility V3 allows for Mirror and Flip and they specifically reference Facetime for these functions. They do not reference Skype, but we believe it would work there as well.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with Mac OS Big Sur11.2?

A: Unfortunately no. This item BH #MA32100 does support. Mac OS Big Sur11.2. Supported Operating Systems OS X 10.9 - 10.11 macOS 10.12

Q: 6. Latency

A: The is a capture device that processes a signal in to a computer through USB. The very nature of this product will show some latency.

Q: 7. Works for record 4K video from my a7s1 output hdmi??

A: The original A7S is able to output UHD 4K at up to 30fps through HDMI. While not specifically tested, the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4k Plus should be able to see the signal. However this is something that you would need to test out for yourself to see if it works.

Q: 8. Is there a replacement cable or model number for the USB cable? Or is only purchasable with the Magewell unit?

A: The USB cable that works with the Magewell USB Capture SDI 4K Plus is a standard USB 3.0 cable. We can recommend B&H#PEUSB3AMAM3 or any other desired lengths.

Q: 9. The USB cable included with this device is very short. What type A to type C cables are compatible with this device. Up until now the only cable I can find that will allow the card to be recognized by my 2019 MacBook Pro is the cable that was included with the card. Even though other cards seem to match the required specifications the device does not power on and is not recognized by the computer.

A: I am sorry to say that Magewell advises to please use the included Magewell USB 3.0 cable, which is a custom accessory. Using any other similar cable might cause capture problems and even damage the capture device.

Q: 10. coming out of a mixing board line level, what kind of pad do I need to plug into the magewell? It says mic level going in

A: the input on this product is Line Level therefore you can go straight from your mixing board into the capture device. Magewell makes this a bit more clear on their website http://www.magewell.com/products/usb-capture-sdi-4k-plus

[5.4 x 5.25 x 1"] Very easy to setup. Plugged my Canon t6i into it and then into an iMac. OBS picks up with no complications.

[5.4 x 5.25 x 1"] So, i use this for Live Broadcasting at my little local newsoutlet. What i do is connect my Sony RX10-IV to a laptop via the Magewell 4kPlus and the laptop has a hotspot; That way i can literally be almost anywhere and do live feeds to my news-site. It works well -- really. I have had zero connection problems with my camera. It does have a moving part, the ever-so-silent fan; So, i only keep it connected when needed. But, i can honestly say, i am glad i did my research comparing similar products.

This is the best out there, and well worth the cost.

[5.4 x 5.25 x 1"] Feels a tad overpriced but the plug and play aspect is fantastic. I had an issue when on set with a cheaper capture card so I upgraded to avoid any future issues. So far it has been great.

[0.525 lb] I love this capture card so far. My favorite part is the fact that you can just plug it in and pull up signal. I do not have to match the exact frame rate and size in Wirecast in order to see signal at all like the Blackmagic Ultra Studio Express Capture cards. One tip I learned from hands on experience streaming corporate video is to put this on a separate USB bus so it has enough bandwidth to work. I have been adapting the custom USB type a that is provided with an adapter cable that goes to USB type C so it's on it's own bus and works super smooth with my laptop ; )

Happy streaming!

[0.525 lb] I use this to connect and live stream using an older camcorder with my Windows 10 laptop. I stream with vMix. Worked perfectly right from the start - plugged it in and every streaming software I've tried recognizes it (vMix, Zoom, Skype, ClickMeeting).

[0.525 lb] Its absurd how easy this was to install. Plugged it in and it worked. Drivers download and install automatically which is important because I needed to put this on a clients computer to feed a WebEx broadcast.

On my own system, I can confirm the 4K signal looks good and is certainly overkill for my purposes.

[0.525 lb] that is not the first time i buy magewell, and each time i am surprised because it is just plug and play. just plug and it is working!

[0.525 lb] This works like magic. I have not figured out how to do audio fully. But it works best with Video camera versus my Canon 60D.

Thing is well weighted.

[0.525 lb] It just works. I've used this as both a live streaming and recording device on my MacBook Pro. I've typically been using a Nikon D810 1080 stream, and I haven't yet pushed this to 4K. I also don't capture audio through the Magwell, as I use a professional studio microphone and audio interface instead. I don't notice any fan noise at all.

[5.4 x 5.25 x 1"] I needed a camera capture card to stream our cameras on set to clients via zoom. This thing works like a charm in Mac OS. No software installs needed.

I love it so much I've just taken to using my A7s as a webcam hooked this thing. The new Sony Capture software was so buggy to stream via USB, so this was a welcome alternative.

A lot of people have complained about the fan noise. I don't really notice it as I have several RAID arrays under my desk that also have way louder fans. Additionally, the device runs quite cool, so I wouldn't doubt that you could crack this thing open and swap the fan for a heatsink.
