Q: 10. does this allow for the screen to be flipped out and be functional? or once the rain cover is on its practically useless to operate the camera?

A: The camera has an eyepiece and viewfinder specifically suited for such applications. The rain cover is supposed to seal the camera in and protect it as much as possible... Exposing its LCD screen would not be advisable.

[15 in] I did the mistake to buy the Camrade version (because a friend loved his cover for the FS700), but I had to return it because the cover was terribly bad designed. The whole thing was made of velcros that left tiny holes around the camera, the LCD back of the LCD screen was not covered, the back was to tight to put a BP-U90 battery and there's no space at the top to put a wireless receiver. I was extremely disappointed (it's the first time I had to return a B&H order) Then i emailed Porta Brace asking if their cover would fit a BP-U90 battery and they replied to be in 10 minutes assuring it would. After playing with cover I can say that it's very well designed, my camera feels much more protected then with the camerade version. If you know how well your FS5 you shouldn't have any problems operating with the cover on. There's a lot of space if you have accessories on your camera and most importantly : The LCD screen is 100% protected. Great product!

[15 in] Fantastic case, i use it with my fs7 with extension unit and a full movcam basekit on it. The only thing that has to come off the camera is the follow focus. The mattebox just manages to sneek into the case. A warning is that this case is huge - much larger than any other camera bag I've seen . It's great that the camera fits while built but the trade off is a very large case that's difficult to shoulder around. Quality is fantastic as always - there is a reason portabrace is used by every pro out there

[Veltex] Excellent cover build quality is second to none. It is a bit of a mission to get the cover on the camera so be aware you won't be able to quickly chuck it on your FS5 if it starts to rain all of a sudden like it does over here in Auckland. Never the less minor issue excellent product highly recommend, have one for my URSA mini 4.6k.

[15 in] One of those purchases that you will know it if you need it, total specialty item. Purchased this for filming skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry with lots of exposure to fresh powder and cold temps. This cover is great to keep moisture and snow away from the camera and utilizing hand-warmer inserts to keep both your hand warm on the hand grip as well as the battery area and camera in general. The fleece lined hand openings are fantastic. The Velcro is bombproof, but does require two hands to open some flaps, so if one hand in inside holding the side grip, you may have to pull it out to use both hands to open a flap to hit other buttons. Short lenses with manual aperture can be challenging to adjust as the lens opening part of the cover might be cinched around it and you have to make sure if pulling manual focus that the lens opening is not impeding that area of the lens as well. Plenty of openings and slots to allow external monitors and mounts, plus shotgun mics to be operated while using this cover. Between some shots I would ski while holding this cover and FS5 inside using a generic camera neck strap and the lens sticking out with a regular lens cap - instead I would prefer to get a soft cover lens cap that protects the entire lens from any snow pickup while on the move - that's about using the cover as a complete package and nothing to do with the cover alone. I'd buy it again.

[7 in] I needed a waterproof cover for my Sony FS5. The pictures do not do it justice. It fits very well - a little oversize if anything. But the number of opening surprised me. There is a hook and loop opening on top that allows you to grab the top handle which is useful if you want to leave the Rain Slicker on before/after the rain. There is a zipper that gives access to microphone attachment. A hook and loop opening is available on the grip side of the camera, yet sheds the water with or without your hand on the grip and allow easy access to the grip controls. The other side has two clear plastic windows that afford a view of the control side of the camera and the LCD Screen. Hook and Loop allow you to tent the opening for the LCD screen to keep water out yet provide a clear view. Finally there is a h&l opening on the back to allow access to the battery and connectors (SCI, HDMI, etc) on the back. There is even a flap of material that allows a microphone to be open in the front yet protected from rain. This flap doesn't extend past the lens so you may have to move a shotgun mic back. The only negative I've found is the elastic opening for the view finder doesn't grip the eyepiece very well. If you have the large eyecup mounted it will hold everything in place but without the eyecup the cover will not keep the eyepiece held in place and you have to make an effort every time you want to look thru the view finder - but it does keep it dry that way. All of the opening are designed in such a way as to shed the water around the openings. I haven't tried it in blowing rain but I bet that you could adjust the opening for a tighter fit. The material is a heavy duty waterproof canvas that isn't going to tear or wear with normal usage.

[1000D Cordura] Received my new rain slicker a few days before a big outdoor FS7 shoot where forecast was looking bleak. It was perfect timing! Like one should expect from Portabrace, this product specifically designed for the new Sony FS7 is easy to build onto the camera, and operational controls are easily accessed. Covers the camera completely including the XDCA adapter with battery. I do recommend using a matte box to protect the front of the lens from moisture but also to prevent compromising the image since the drawstring can wrap around the edge of a matte box. No need for the XL version of this product unless you plan to mount external monitor/recorder on the rear. Great value.

[1000D Cordura] I wanted a relatively light weight bag with a hard shell that I could just put the whole camera in complete with Matte Box one end to a V Lock Battery pack the other, and also leave the view finder in place. A big ask maybe but this bag fills all the needs. Highly recommended.
