Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the best way to store these batteries when not in use for a day, month, or year?

A: Lithium ion batteries should be stored in a cool dry place and charged with approximately 30 to 50% power remaining (not fully drained). Make sure the battery contacts are protected so the battery will not short out if something were to touch the contact points. Many lithium ion batteries come with a cover that protects the contact points. Electrical tape can also be used for this purpose. Batteries can be left in the device when it is not used for a few days, but should be removed from the device if it will not be used for a week or longer. This will help to extend battery life and also prevent possible damage to your device.

Q: 2. Is this a standard TRRS cable?

A: No, the Eartec HB35IL Interlink Cable for HUB Mini Base is a proprietary TRRS cable that is wired specifically to link two Eartec HUB Mini Base units together.

Q: 3. I am looking to use the Hub to connect a Whirlwind THS-4 instead of a comm system. Is this possible?

A: The Eartec Hub systems are not designed to be adapted into the the Whirlwind THS-4 system.

Q: 4. Does this need to be connected to a powered Clearcom line to work?

A: Yes it must be powered.

Q: 5. Will this work with 2 Wire and 4 Wire Clearcom systems?

A: The Eartec HUB Interface for ClearCom Systems (BH # EAHUBINCC) works with ClearCom 2-wire and 4-wire systems.

Q: 6. We currently have a wired Clearcom system. We’d like to add some wireless headsets to that existing system. If we purchase this and the Eartec 4 pack headset this should add that functionality?

A: Yes, you can use this HUB Interface for Clearcom with up to 8 of their ULTRAlite headsets, to add wireless stations to your existing Clearcom hard-wired system.

Q: 7. Is it possible for me to run a feed from my mixing console into the Eartec Hub using this interface?

A: No. This Eartec HUB Interface is intended specifically for use to connect a Clear-Com wired intercom system with an Eartec HUB intercom system.

Q: 8. Can this cable be extended with a default TRRS M to F cable?

A: No. The Eartec Interlink Cable uses proprietary wiring which is different from that of a standard TRRS cable, so a standard TRRS extension cable cannot be used to extend the length of the Eartec cable. This cable is 28.7" long. If you need a custom length, you can order it directly from Eartec.

Q: 9. I have the 4 pack eartec headsets, that work with master headset and 3 slaves. For the hub interface to clearcom, will I also need to buy the Hub? So will I need both the hub and hub interface?

A: Yes, you will need to use the HUB (B&H # EAHUB) and the HUB interface together. The HUB works in the same manner as the master headset you already have, so it replaces the master headset. The HUB can be used with eight wireless UltraLite remote headsets and one wired headset.

Q: 10. I need to be able to place the hub on stage while I'm in Video World backstage (or downstairs), how long can the Hub-MAIN cable be? Is this a standard TRS 1/8" cable ?

A: The Eartec Interlink Cable for HUB Mini Base is a proprietary cable that is 28.7" (73 cm) long and used to connect two Eartec HUB Mini Duplex Transceiver Bases together for use with up to 16 wireless headsets and one wired headset. This is the only available cable for linking two HUBs and it does not use standard wiring so you would need to use this specific cable.

[Eight] I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Eartec wireless communication system. As the owner of GEMC Productions, an A/V provider, the convenience of communicating with my team hands free is a great improvement than using regular walkie talkies. I don't have to wait until someone ends the conversation before I can respond. Love the convenience of duplex communication. I will be introducing Eartec to one of the churches our company provides Audio support for. Thanks B&H for your continuous professionalism.

[Eight] Eartec comm systems are one of the rare pieces of utilitarian kit that makes me smile every time we get to use them. They just work. Phenomenal range, and the HUB system is just awesome. When we first started using them, I was a bit worried about battery life and bought an extra battery for each headset (6, 12 batteries total). I was shocked when 1) these batteries last more than half a day each (4-6 hours) and 2) they seem to take less than 20-30 minutes to fully charge. I know they're small batteries, but charge time isn't something I have to worry about when we use our Eartec system. I was going to buy multiple chargers and 2-3 sets of spare batteries...but these are so good and charge so quick, my initial purchase was completely adequate for a 6-10 hour production day. Given the quick charge time, we can charge half overnight and the other half when we come in for the next production day and not have it impact production at all.

I'd recommend having one extra battery for each headset in your kit + 1-3 additional just in case. (We always power the HUB with mains power whenever possible, so that gave us 1 extra battery out of the gate.) I have no clue how long these will last, but they're so cheap it doesn't make sense to NOT have a few more on-hand than you need.

[0.7 lb] Got some extra batteries for the system and they do last for hours but having spares for each headset makes it quick.

[0.7 lb] I work in a community small community theatre that has used Eartec wireless comms for years. They've been adequate, and having wireless comms is nice, but I missed the quality and clear sound that I was used to with ClearCom wired comms. I finally decided to pick up one of these interfaces and run ClearCom to the non-moving positions like light board op, sound op, and stage manager.

It has been a fantastic improvement. The backstage crew and house manager still have the freedom to remain on comms while they move around, while the sound quality for cue calling from the SM to lights and sound has been much better.
