The PreSonus StudioLive 32R is a Series III, 32-channel 2 RU stagebox and rack mixer designed to serve as a simple stage box, rack mixer, or combination stagebox and monitor mixer. The 32R is equipped for AVB networking, allowing it to be connected to another Series III mixer via a single, lightweight Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for heavy, expensive copper snakes, and the signal degradation caused by long cable runs. All the on-board XMAX microphone preamps can be remotely controlled from the front-of-house position. In stage box + monitor mixer mode, the StudioLive 32R not only serves as a professional networked stage box, but is a full-blown monitor mixer with advanced processing and mixing power.

The StudioLive 32R offers professional-quality sound with its on-board Series III processors and 3rd generation Fat Channel, which implements a plug-in-style workflow that features vintage-style EQ and compression options on every channel, from classic tube limiters to passive EQs. In addition to channel processing, the StudioLive 32R offers 6-band, fully parametric EQ on all mix outputs. There are 16 FlexMixes that can be individually designated as aux, subgroup, or matrix mixes, while 24 Filter DCAs offer easy and flexible control over groups of channels.

There are 32 combo XLR-1/4" inputs (mic/line) and an additional set of stereo RCA inputs for flexibility. The 16 FlexMix outputs feature 1/4" TRS connectors, while the main output offers balanced XLR connectors. A built-in SD card recorder allows you to quickly and easily record the main mix or any other stereo mix without the need for a computer. What's more, you can simultaneously multitrack record to your laptop via USB or AVB and record in stereo to SD.

The PreSonus StudioLive 32R ships with an integrated software package including Studio One Artist, UC Surface, and Capture. Studio One Artist is a full-featured DAW for recording, mixing, and playing back tracks. The software offers remote control over the XMAX preamps and the Fat Channel processing. UC Surface offers touch-control for Mac, Windows, Android, and iPad, allowing you to control the mixer wirelessly from anywhere in the room, while Capture allows you to completely automate virtual sound-checks and record shows. Additionally, the StudioMagic plug-in suite is included, which provides a wealth of fresh sounds and effects from companies such as Eventide, Lexicon, SPL, MAAG, Brainworks, and Arturia. The PreSonus StudioLive 32R ships with a power cord and a USB cable.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any instrument inputs?

A: The PreSonus StudioLive 16R 18-Input, 16-Channel Series III Stage Box and Rack Mixer does not have any Hi-Z instrument inputs. To connect an instrument like a guitar or a bass, you would want to use a DI box.

Q: 2. Can this StudioLive 32R be used as a Digital Snake Stage box with the Studiolive series III mixer, just like the X32 and the SD16 stage box?

A: The PreSonus StudioLive 32R can be connected via Cat5e/6e to a series III mixer for use as a stagebox.

Q: 3. Seing the USB is limited to one PC; if instead one opts to use the "RME Digiface AVB 256-Channel Mobile AVB/USB Audio Interface" through the Presonus SW5 Switch can I have different Engineers mix audio from this console in a live broadcast environment and send the final mix for Broadcast/LiveStream?

A: The SW5E AVB switch is compatible for use with the StudioLive 32S and it will allow you to send digital audio over a network. It's a bit unclear how you want to route the signal using the RME Digiface and SW5E and be able to send the final mix for broadcast/livestream. I would recommend contacting our pro audio specialists by phone so we can speak directly. You can explain the intended setup and then we can determine whether it will work or if there may be a better solution. You can reach us by phone at 800-606-6969 or 212-444-6615.

Q: 4. Are the SMART features included (pink noise, spectrum analyzer, etc.)??

A: Includes Studio Magic Plug-in Suite. This suite of plug-ins adds a wealth of fresh virtual instruments and effects to Studio One. Cherry-picked from the first names in virtual instruments and effects, each plug-in brings a different flavor of practical magic to your songs. These plug-ins aren't gimmicky one-trick ponies — these are real-deal workhorses that you'll rely on for countless mixes. Modeled after classic analog studio designs, these compressor and EQ plug-ins load both natively on the StudioLive 16R and inside Studio One®, providing the ultimate mixing and recording flexibility. Like every PreSonus interface, the StudioLive 16R is ready to record right out of the box with Studio One Artist or Capture®—both of which are included. Please see the PreSONUS website for a complete list and description.

Q: 5. What is the typical lifespan of this mixer assuming near constant up time?

A: There is no way to really answer this question. Like anything else if the unit is kept in good condition and given proper maintenance it should last a long time. If the enviornment is dirty, does a lot of traveling from gig to gig and it get's banged around alot it wil not last as long.

Q: 6. is the StudioLive 16R Series III rack mixer compatible with StudioLive 16.4.2AI?

A: No, it is compatible with series III mixers.

Q: 7. Will this unit work with the Blackmagic ATEM to control the audio in the ATEM software?

A: While the ATEM Control Software allows for external affecting of settings by a MIDI device, the PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2 USB Performance & Recording Digital Mixer is unable to serve as a MIDI controller. For a simple controller to work with ATEM Control Software, try something like Akai Professional APC mini (BH #AKAPCMINI).

Q: 8. Is the stagebox setup only available for sereies3 mixers? Can it work with the Ai sereiesl

A: Only series 3. The documentation I saw said it was a new system that was not compatible with Ai.

Q: 9. I have always used an Analog Mackie from B and H into a CPU with a Sound card. I am now looking for a Hybrid Mixer for Analog Mixing with Digital Recording. Is this the unit I need? Many thanks!

A: This is a very good, compact digital mixer, but it is not a hybrid. If you would like an analog mixer with digital recording capabilities, I would consider the PreSonus StudioLive AR12 USB 14-Channel Hybrid Performance and Recording Mixer, BH #PRSLMAR12.

Q: 10. Does this have a fan? I am concerned about cooling.

A: This does not have a built in fan, and under normal operating conditions does not generate much heat. It can be operated in environmental conditions of up to 104 degrees. If you are putting it in a rack along with other equipment, especially power amps, you may want to consider a rack mount fan, which is an easy solution, or there are studio racks with fans built in. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1337016-REG/ac_infinity_ai_cp2h_cloudplate_x7_rack_mount.html

[> 60 dB] This bag is perfect for toting and carring. The board fits snug, the three carry options are great features. I like the extra pockets for cables and notes books. Sure beats a road case.

[> 60 dB] My new 16 channel mobile rig consists of a 16R, a Dell laptop and a router. 2-track mix to SD card and multitrack to Dell laptop. Wireless control with iPad. Not even a hiccup. When I'm recording a rhythm section in my studio I connect the 16R to my Presonus SL Ser 3 and use the 16R as an AVB stagebox in the drum room. Very happy with this combination.

[17.75 lb] This has got to be the most intelligent thing that’s ever fit into a single rack space. I bought this for our band (6-9 pieces depending on the show) for monitor mixes. Half of us use in ears and half wedges. We were tired of being at the mercy of whoever engineered monitors for us at any given venue, so I mounted it in a 4 space rack bag with a 16ch splitter snake. BOOM! Now we have our own monitor mixes right from our iPads, iPhones, etc., without the extra weight and space of a traditional mixing board, and we send a separate 16 channels out to FOH. If they’re using a newer studio live FOH mixer, we don’t even need the splitter snake. What a difference this has made! PLUS, we can mix FOH with it also, for our smaller gigs. If we had a full-time FOH engineer, we wouldn’t use the venue’s engineer, we would have then mix from the iPad. Kudos to Presonus on another stellar product, and allowing us to keep our sanity on stage. =D

[48 kHz] Perfect fit and function. Used it the day it arrived. The front pocket has enough room for a couple of cords and maybe two SM57's but not much else. Worth the money to have the extra protection for the AR8.

[17.75 lb] I purchased this in 2022 for a new music studio. It is a great compact 16x4 channel audio mixer. Includes 4 stereo input channels as well as 2 internal effects buss. While it is no longer in production by PreSonus, nor directly supported, you can still get current up to date software and drivers and applications from PreSonus, technical support discussions via email and plenty of user discussions and templates on how to use it. Fully automated, it can be augmented with the free PreSonus Capture & Universal Control software to connect from a computer hands free in Windows & even set up as the default Windows Audio device. Mac users also!

Although my review is August 2024, it is still my only digital mixer in the studio. I would suggest buying any protection offered by B&H. This mixer has both a Firewire and a USB specific model, so make sure you understand the interface if you will be using this with a computer. There are plenty YouTube videos on many topics regarding this device. There is even training software offered from many vendors that cover the mixer functionality in great depth. PreSonus has many videos on functionality with its DAW software Studio One.

Here's a great video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edeXxmRZ0rU)

A fantastic way to mix live as well as digital software music from a computer. XLR inputs, +48v power for Condenser mics, 1/4 and RCA audio inputs, Talkback, Main outputs, Aux (4 ch buss) outputs and software Buss functionality thru Universal Control. This product comes with some application software after registration. Mine came with Studio One Artist - check their web site after registration.

[17.75 lb] Finally replaced my old Shure Brothers mixer from the 1970's with a modern one. The Shure Brothers was built well and is still in service somewhere but this new Yamaha is so loaded with features and handy connections it had to take center stage. I use it in my home studio to record radio skits. Just right for my purposes: clean sound, lots of controls and streamline design.

[USB 2.0 Port ] I'm in radio and, while COVID-19 is taking its course, I'm producing voice spots for automation upload in a converted bedroom closet voice-over booth. The small mixer I started with a couple months ago, a Mackie 402VLZ4, worked well enough amplifying my Aston Stealth mic, but the headphone section on that one refused to drive even the most efficient set of cans beyond a whisper. This was surprising, since that was never a problem with previous/larger Mackies I've owned.

The station briefly loaned me some specialized equipment for remote live broadcasting experiments and included in that package was a Yamaha MG10 mixer. Not only did the mic pres sound great on that one, but I could actually hear myself clearly through the 'phones. So, I took a chance and ordered an MG06 for myself.

I'm happy to report that the MG06 has the same excellent sound of the MG10 and, yes, the headphone section allows you to actually hear yourself - or whatever else you happen to be recording - loud and clear. When we get back to the point where live concerts are common again (I moonlight by making XY stereo recordings of chamber music for friends in nice acoustical spaces,) I'm anxious to hear what the MG06 will do there.

The other criteria important to me is the ability to run my gear off battery power at times. While the larger MG10 needs 18VAC and would require an outboard inverter to go untethered, the smaller MG06 is 12VDC and can easily mate with any reasonably-sized lithium battery power bank. Phantom power on the MG06 is also, apparently, a full 48V. There much to like here in a clean-sounding and well-built package at a bargain price.
