$597.00 $865.65

The SE Electronics X1 S is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone designed for versatile, full-range vocal and instrument recording in commercial facilities, project studios, home setups, and mobile rigs. The handcrafted gold-sputtered capsule features a pressure-gradient design for directional focus and rejection of off-axis sounds. It utilizes a gold-plated XLR 3-pin jack and requires 48V phantom power.

The metal-bodied X1 S delivers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a selectable 80 Hz or 160 Hz low-cut filter to reduce rumble and low-frequency buildup. A switchable -10 dB or -20 dB pad minimizes distortion when miking loud sources such as drums and amplified guitars. Even without a pad, the X1 S can handle a maximum SPL of 140 dB. It ships with a mic clip and thread adapter for easy mounting on a mic stand.

The X1 S utilizes a handcrafted condenser capsule, meticulously constructed and tuned in SE's capsule room by technicians with decades of experience

Its internal redesign allows for improved sensitivity, dramatically increased SPL handling (up to 160 dB), and a large reduction in self-noise

The -10 dB and -20 dB pad switches provide extended dynamic range, enabling a wide range of applications and close-mic techniques

Selectable at either 80 Hz or 160 Hz, the two filters help eliminate low-frequency rumble or footfall noise, as well as help compensate for excessive bass (proximity effect) with close-mic techniques

The X1 S's all-metal chassis provides efficient rejection of electrical interference and noise

A gold-plated XLR connector ensures loss-free, reliable signal connection

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this device work with Sure Phantom powered shotgun mic over 180+ feet of cable?

A: Yes

Q: 2. Hi - Wondering if a Blue Mic Yeti will work with this mount?

A: Unfortunately not. The Radius II is required to properly shockmount the Blue yeti; B&H BLSMYPM. The pop filter is sold separately as well. The B&H# is BLTP.

Q: 3. The grill looks similar on both sides. If I wanted to use this mic as a drum overhead, how should I position it? Which side would face downward?

A: With large condenser mics u would point it with whatever side has either the logo or the cardioid pattern symbol on it.

Q: 4. Does this microphone connect with laptops and mpcs

A: This large diaphragm microphone would require an audio interface with the ability to provide 48 volt phantom power in order to connect to a computer. A very good choice would be the Audient iD14 10x4 USB Audio Interface, B&H # AUID14.

Q: 5. Can the capsules be interchanged for omnis? Confusing because the Sound on Sound review said they are fixed but I see omni caps in your inventory.

A: Yes, you can use the sE8 Omni Microphone Capsules - Matched Pair (B&H # SE8OMNICAPPR) in place of the cardioid capsules that come with sE8 microphones.

Q: 6. how do I register?

A: Follow this link to register:a href= http://en.rode.com/warranty/step1 target= _blank http://en.rode.com/warranty/step1/a

Q: 7. Can this be connected to a iPhone with an adaptor?

A: Yesm the sE Electronics sE2200 can be connected to an iPhone using a mobile audio interface that supplies the 48V phantom power required to power the mic. You can use an interface such as the IK Multimedia iRig Pre (B&H# IKIRIGPRE), iRig Pre HD (B&H# IKIRIGPREHD), Saramonic SmartRig DI (B&H# SASMARTRIGD), SmartRig+ DI (B&H# SASMARTRIGP), TC-Helicon Go Vocal (B&H# TCGOVOCAL) or any other mobile interface designed for use with iOS devices. Some may require an additional adapter for connecting to a Lightning port. The Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H# APLAADAP) can be used for that purpose.

Q: 8. Is there a good case to put this equipment in? I am looking to be able to pack it up and take it with me when necessary

A: I have not seen a compatible case for this reflection filter or one like it. I surmise that a case for something odd-shaped such as this reflection filter would be unreasonably large. I have a slightly larger reflection filter that I just bag up in a clear plastic bag, or I put it into a drum throne bag if I want it padded.

Q: 9. will this device provide +48v Phantom power to a condenser microphone ?

A: This device is a gain booster for ribbon/ dynamic mics, and while it uses 48v to provide gain, it does not pass phantom power. If you need just phantom power for a condenser mic, here's a phantom power supply option BH #MAM48.

Q: 10. Would these mics work for recording ambient sounds outdoors (birds, frogs, crickets, rustling leaves, running water, etc.)?

A: Yes, the matched pair of RODE M5 Compact 1/2" Condenser Microphones can be used for recording ambient sounds outdoors.

[Mono] These live in my studio as drum overheads, exclusively. I had recently purchased the multi-pattern version but returned them when these came out a week later. At a fourth of the cost of Coles, these are the way to go if you on a budget or just getting started. Recording drums gets expensive quick!

[Mono] I give 5 stars because the quality seems great so far and the mic seems sturdy. I have only had the chance to use it once or twice, but for testing it in a poor acoustical environment and not having a great pre-amp yet, I got very good sound.

[Side Address] It's big and it delivers. This is always a go to mic for vocals in my studio. Other mics include Neumann U87ai, Blue Kiwi, Shure KSM44s, and a Rode K2. They are all fantastic mics with individual character. The Gemini has been the best fit for a lot of vocalists. It has warmth, a sweet top end, and it just sounds right. Background noise is almost non-existent and it shares a spot with the best mics for this. The mic is big and heavy, so make sure your stand is up to the task with a counterweight if you are using a boom. Impressive to stand in front of, and impressive results. A favorite in my collection.

[Cardioid] Great sound, nice smooth high-end. Fairly flat response easy and versatile to use.

[Cardioid] When I received these mics I had a slightly mixed first impression. The case was nice but the slots for the mics left them very slightly loose. The foam windscreens fit the mics perfect and are more uniform than many I've seen. The fit and finish of the spreader bar is less than stellar and the mic clips are pretty basic. The fit and finish of the mics themselves is excellent.

After just a bit of testing I was grinning and couldn't be happier with my purchase. The sound is silky smooth and very natural. I prefer a neutral sound from a mic, and these deliver. I haven't done a ton of testing yet, but from my initial testing I'm extremely pleased with the sound. What sound profile you prefer is fairly subjective, but I think these are going to be great for me.

The main thing that impressed me with these mics is the low noise floor. I tested these along side a Rode NT5. Based on the specs I hoped the noise floor would be better, but it's night and day. My NT5 has a noise floor that isn't terrible, but it never impressed me. Maybe I just got a poor sample. Either way, after making test recordings I listened first to the NT5. When I switched to the sE8 my eyes went wide because it was not a subtle difference. The sE8 has a far lower noise floor.

They are a bit heavier, if that's an issue for you.

With the adjustable pads and high-pass filters, smooth sound and low noise these mics are versatile and offer great performance. Not the cheapest out there, but highly recommended for the price.

[Solid-State] I live in a tiny home and needed something to help record my baritone voice for an audio book project. The microphone is smooth and clear. I like the 80hz low cut option for my voice. The build quality on everything is good, although, the shock mount feels like the cheapest part. Nice bundle for the price

[Solid-State] I did a lot of research for a matched pair of SDC mics that can get close to Neumann 184s in quality but for a LOT less money. These are it. They have a great neutral-sounding response, perfect for acoustic instruments. Recommended.

[Cardioid] I was a bit apprehensive with this purchase, wanting to use it with my phone, but I plugged it in and didn't have to change any settings in the free app that I had on my phone for it to work.
This is very easy to use and so far the sound quality is what I expected, very comparable to the X1A. I have not used the headphone jack in the back, but eventually will let the kiddos understand the power of microphones at some point with that 1/4 port... let them smack their lips and hear their mouths and all that - something not so easily accomplished otherwise without a hoard of equipment.

[Cardioid] I mainly bought this for mic'ing guitar cabinets and combo amps. It does a great job! Very warm and punchy, and not at all harsh or thin like some condensers can be on guitar amps. I have used it on sax as well and was very happy. I have not used a lot of other ribbons, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but for the money, I think this mic is worth every penny.
