Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is some vignetting expected when using this step up ring at wider apertures? Can vignetting be reduced by stopping down?

A: One should not expect vignetting when using the Heliopan 49-62mm Step-Up Ring (#175). The 62mm filter will be significantly wider than the 49mm lens threading and should not get into the image at all.

Q: 2. When using this adapter, with a 77mm nd filter on a 58mm cap size lens, will it have any downsides? Or is it gonna look perfect just like a 58mm filter?

A: When using the B+W 58-77mm Step-Up Ring, photos should look fine using the 58mm cap size, unless one is using a fisheye wide angle lens.

Q: 3. The description says it's aluminum, but the reviews say it's brass - which is it?

A: Aluminum, without a doubt. I have brass step up rings as well, they are substantially heavier than this ring.Let that not reflect poorly on the craftsmanship however; it is still a superbly machined piece of metal with precise fit and finish.

Q: 4. Will this step up ring work with a Leica Noctilux 50mm 0.95 lens?

A: The Heliopan 60-77mm Step-Up Ring (#644) (B&H# HESUR6077) will fit the 60mm filter thread of the Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH. Lens (Black) (B&H# LE50095NB). As such, you'll be able to add 77mm filters to that lens.

Q: 5. is this 43x0.5 or 43x0.75?

A: The Heliopan 43-46mm Step-Up Ring (#243) has a 0.75 thread pitch.

Q: 6. Will the 54mm end fit a lens with series VII (Series 7) threads? I believe they are 54.3mm (2 1/8 inches).

A: unfortunately this will not.

Q: 7. Looking to use this on my sigma 18-35 f1.8. With a filter on it, will there be vignetting?

A: You could use the Heliopan 72-77mm Step-Up Ring (#141) on the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens. You will not get vignetting but you will not be able to use the lens hood.

Q: 8. Can this be used with filters that aren't B+W brand? Such as Firecrest?

A: I've used these step up rings with various filter brands ... Hoya, Nikon, etc...

Q: 9. Is this coarse or regular thread?

A: This ring has standard threads.

Q: 10. Does using a 62 mm lense instead of a 52 mm lense make a difference in photo quality?

A: In general, no. However, it can be used to prevent vignetting on a wide angle lens with a standard ring polarizer or when stacking more than one filter on a lens.

[0.025 lb] At Last ! No more sticking filter rings ( as in all of the aluminum rings ). Pricey, but worth every penny to eliminate the frustrations, especially with rorating filters like ND gradients and polarizers. Now to save up a few pennies to buy a couple of more.

[0.025 lb] I am using this step up ring to put filters on my Panasonic LX100. The lens housing on the LX100 is roughly 58mm, so when I use this, its flush with housing. A really clean setup. I bought this instead of cheaper step up rings since this is made out of brass and I'll be swapping out filters frequently. It has worked great so far. Never a snag.

[0.025 lb] I tried three different step-up rings for my lx100 and the Heliopan was the only of three that didn't cause a lens error when the lens was retracted. If you're in the same boat, this is the one to go for!

[0.025 lb] Using for 58mm ND filters on smaller (micro four-thirds) Olympus lenses. Well constructed, works as it is supposed to, doesn't get stuck. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
