Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use this while sitting in your car, shooting out the window? Will it mold to the door frame inside and out?

A: Yes this would be perfect for using over a car door or partly open window or throwing over a branch. The LensCoat LensSack Junior Beanbag Camera Support will take the shape of just about anything you lay it on.

Q: 2. How many bags of poly beads are needed?

A: The LensCoat LensSack Pro Beanbag Support measures 11 x 8 x 7.5", which is 10.82 liters. It is not an exact rectangle though; there is an opening at the bottom that will reduce the size of the bean bag. The Kinesis Poly Bead Fill for SafariSack 4.2 (B&H # KIR142) is 4.2 liters—I would recommend buying two bags.

Q: 3. Can I use this bag for my Nikon 600mm f4 lens?

A: I use my Nikon 800mm no problem.

Q: 4. Any idea how many lbs of buckwheat hulls it would take to fill this? For example using B&H # KIR428H MFR # R428H. Thanks.

A: I bought a 5-lb bag of buckwheat hulls and ended up using approximately 4 lbs. It actually took more than I would have estimated.

Q: 5. does this bag good enough to support 400-600mm tele lenses ?

A: Absolutely. I use it with a canon 600 f4l is and 1DX. Works great.

Q: 6. What about sewing quality and quality of materials? Does sewing damage with time?

A: We cannot say how long this will last as there are way too many variables on how one uses it. But LensCoat makes a good product and is a good company.

Q: 7. Has anyone tried the LensSack Jr. with a gimbal head? Would like to use the Jr. with a gimbal head and Nikon 600 f/4 while in Kenya.

A: According to LensCoat, you may add a gimbal to this product via the 3/8-16” mounting plate.

Q: 8. Would this bag be oK to use with a Sigma 500 f4.5 lens?

A: I bought it to use with my Sigma 150-600 and it works great! I've used it to support lenses on the hood of my car and by slipping it over the door to shoot bald eagles using the car as a blind. I have the metal plate but have not used it yet as I just don't seem to need it. Maybe use it this spring to shoot bears in Yellowstone as it will be easier to swivel the lens. I filled mine with packing peanuts to keep it light weight for carrying along with other camera gear.

Q: 9. Does this beanbag flatten down at all for travel when empty of bean/hull filling?

A: Yes, the LensCoat LensSack Pro Jr Beanbag Support does flatten down when empty.

Q: 10. How many pounds of rice, beans, etc., are needed to fill up the beanbag?

A: Weight will depend on the material you are using but the LensCoat LenSack Beanbag Camera Support will hold 0.971 gallon (3.675 liters) of the material.

[15 x 9.25 x 1"] The perfect alternative when you don't have your tripod or cannot use one. You just fill it with buckwheat hulls or rice and you're good to go.

[1.16 lb] I bought the LensSack Pro Jr to use in conjunction with my Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary. It was smaller than I had anticipated but am happy to report that it holds up just fine with D800 plus a Beike BK-45 gimbal. The LensSack comes with a metal plate that inserts into the top of the sleeve. A plastic washer/bush is placed on top of the fabric to protect it against whatever tripod head you decide to attach. I opted to fill the LensSack with basmati rice. While this does make it significantly heavier than filling with the recommended sunflower seeds, I find the smaller size of the rice grains gives a more solid product and sturdier as a result. It has a multitude of uses, from car windows, walls, fallen or low hanging branches or even on the ground. For low angle work, it's great and I love the freedom it gives you, especially if in a confined space. While I like my tripod, I'm forever tripping over the legs when you have little room to move. Provided you achieve the required height for your shot and can adjust your angles via a gimbal, the LensSack is fantastic. The carry handles make transportation easy and the construction and materials of the product are high. My only negative point is that there aren't double zippers, which I was a little disappointed about. Even my cheap studio sandbags are double zippered to ensure the contents don't leak. A minor point but, I worry about catching the zipper tag on something as I move location and it pulls open, spilling my basmati rice contents all over the ground and potentially ruining a days shoot. Other than that, I can't fault it. The LensSack is very versatile, portable and performs very well, considering the amount of weight it supports.

[1.16 lb] Used this on a recent safari. Found an airplane neck-rest pillow made with foam beads (weight @ 3 oz) that fit perfectly as the bean bag stuffing. this provided a solid support, was easy to move (comfortable for an armrest in the vehicle- and best of all - did not add weight to my suitcase or have me trying to find stuffing once I arrive on site.

[1.16 lb] Got this primarily for shooting out my window on wildlife drives at national wildlife refuges and on safari. Worked well. I was able to keep my camera positioned without the 150-600 mm zoom lens moving in the wind.

The Jr size took about 1.75 lbs of buckwheat hulls. I tried a ball head with the plate and it seems to work, but I did not field test that.

[1.16 lb] Nice bag but a note on fillers. I did some research and decided to go with Buckwheat Hulls, it took almost 2lbs and I got them pretty cheap from *. Unfortunately in my opinion they are WAY TOO LIGHT to really keep the bag solid enough to not wiggle when you have a tripod head mounted on it. They might be fine for non tripod head use. Not sure what I'll try next, the manufacturer says he uses 5lbs of sunflower seeds in his. Probably good in case too want a snack while shooting.

[15 x 9.25 x 1"] Going to Africa in 3 months. A lot of time on safari, so I hear, you can't get out of the jeep for safety reasons. So I felt a bean bag would be better than some sort of window clamp or tripod in the vehicle. My travel tripod head mounted easily. I filled it with 3-4 lbs. of sunflower seeds all in small baggies. So it's not too heavy and is very stable. I suppose if I was using a $10,000 600mm canon that weighed over 10 lbs. I'd go with the larger LensSack. but for me this is perfect
