With its chassis-integrated diffusion, the Litepanels Astra Bi-Color LED Traveler Duo Kitis like having a softbox built into the slim Litepanels Astra profile. The diffusion is designed to all but eliminate the multi-source shadow effect and lend a soft wraparound aesthetic to your subject while covering a larger, less concentrated area of illumination. The Soft Bi-Color is designed and built for professional production, with 25% higher output than the previous version and high color fidelity in its full 3200 to 5600K temperature range. Color and brightness adjustments are stepless throughout their range, and the output is flicker-free at all settings.

The Astra's functions may be adjusted locally using the intuitive built-in controls or operated remotely with one of the optional DMX512 modules, available in XLR 5-pin, RJ45, or wireless formats. Each module provides Master/Replica configuration for the control of single lights, or for multiple light fixtures in a network or daisy chain. In addition, the Astra Bluetooth module provides the same kind of control of single or multiple lights from a portable device, using the free Litepanels Smartlite downloadable app. The accessory modules slide into place on the rear of the Astra panel simply and quickly, with no wiring or complex installation required.

A quiet fan at the rear cools the electronics. It can be turned off during critical scenes, although the light output will be reduced while the fan is inactive. The Astra is ready for worldwide use due to its 100 to 240 VAC power supply, but it can also run on batteries if AC power is unavailable when paired with the separately available V-mount or Gold mount battery plates.

A: Yes .. Definitely worth the difference in cost .. Love these lights .. I now have 4 of them .. You can power them from a mini van .. with an ac outlet! They are great!

Q: 3. What kind of light stands does it come with?

A: The stands are the 8.5' LItePanels 900-3031. They are pretty lightweight aluminum. I would definitely recommend some sandbags if you plan on raising them up very far, but they are sturdy enough for these lightweight LED panels. I purchased the kit back in November and am extremely happy with it. Again, the stands could be sturdier, but you can always upgrade them later if you choose.

And why are the specs the lowest, the price the highest, despite the model being the newest? Is that all diffusion? Which is of course needed no matter what...

A: The Astra Soft Bi-Color is using and powering the same LEDs as the unlabeled 4x power Astra 1x1 Bi-Color. Because there is a medium diffusion built in to the front of these LEDs, the light has a wider beam angle (90) in contrast to the the 4x Astra that is throwing the illumination further with a tighter beam angle (45)

A: The Astra 1x1 E Daylight has a flood beam angle.

Q: 7. If I add Snapbag Softboxs, Grids, Cloth Sets, and Barndoors via an adapter for each light in the 2 or 3 light kit will that all fit within the case?

A: I doubt it will all fit. It's pretty tight with the lightstands. You might be able to cut out some foam and make some room though.

Q: 8. I need to travel with this lighting kit. What are the reviews checking kit on an airline? I worry about the risks

A: Being that this kit has a hard case for air travel, it can easily/safety be stored below a plane. However, you cannot pack V mount batteries in the same case, but rather they need to be carried on. It is always best to check the particular airline you're using for any restrictions that might apply.

Q: 9. I would be mainly using these battery powered, so I am leaning towards the EPs because the other Astras (4x brighter) will drain batteries faster a lot faster, correct? Also, to get the 4x up to full power using batteries, let's say Anton Bauers, I'd have to get the digital 150s as opposed to the Digital 90s. I think the EPs drain 55W and the 4x brighter ones drain 110W. That seems like I would be going through a ton more batteries going with the 4x brighter Astras as opposed to the EPs, and batteries wouldn't last nearly as long. Can someone check my logic?

A: I would go with the brighter light. You will need the larger battery but the draw is very small and they last an amazingly long time. you will be very happy you went with the brighter light if you go that route. If you go with a small battery you can always turn the fan off and the Astra will run at 50% brightness if you want to conserve battery and can make due with a dimmer light. But if you have a big batt or plug in you will always have the extra punch if you need it.
