With its chassis-integrated diffusion, the Litepanels Astra Soft Bi-Color LED Panel Lightis like having a softbox built into the slim Litepanels Astra profile. The diffusion is designed to all but eliminate the multi-source shadow effect and lend a soft wraparound aesthetic to your subject while covering a larger, less concentrated area of illumination. The Soft Bi-Color is designed and built for professional production, with 25% higher output than the previous version and high color fidelity in its full 3200 to 5600K temperature range. Color and brightness adjustments are stepless throughout their range, and the output is flicker-free at all settings.

The Astra's functions may be adjusted locally using the intuitive built-in controls or operated remotely with one of the optional DMX512 modules, available in XLR 5-pin, RJ45, or wireless formats. Each module provides Master/Replica configuration for the control of single lights, or for multiple light fixtures in a network or daisy chain. In addition, the Astra Bluetooth module provides the same kind of control of single or multiple lights from a portable device, using the free Litepanels Smartlite downloadable app. The accessory modules slide into place on the rear of the Astra panel simply and quickly, with no wiring or complex installation required.

A quiet fan at the rear cools the electronics. It can be turned off during critical scenes, although the light output will be reduced while the fan is inactive. The Astra is ready for worldwide use due to its 100 to 240 VAC power supply, but it can also run on batteries if AC power is unavailable when paired with the separately available V-mount or Gold mount battery plates.

A: As per Litepanels, the foot candle measurements for the Astra 6X Bi-Color panel are as follows: In daylight mode: 5 ft -588 fc 10 ft- 147 fc 15 ft – 65 fc In tungsten mode: 5 ft – 528 fc 10 ft – 132 fc 15 ft – 59 fc

Q: 2. I've been using the light for Zoom meeting and the the light has burned out. Is there replacement bulbs for this light?

A: you have to contact the manufacture for service

Q: 3. How many lumens is this light? I am trying to compare it to Arri Skypanel s-30, which is equal to a 1000w tungsten.

A: This light is 110w the S30 is a 200w LED. The Arri has about double the output. The Astra has 131 Lux vs Arii at 217 Lux at 15'. Neither light has a lumen rating.

Q: 4. Is this model compatible with the Litepanels bluetooth controller?

A: Yes if you buy the Bluetooth module of course.

A: Paul, I bought the 2 light kit. This I dont know for the 3 light kit. Also I would suggest you pack the lights in a Storm Case which is a little lighter.

Q: 6. What is the comparable output at full power as compared with ARRI fresnels (ie, 1K open faced, 650w, 300w, etc)?

A: The Astra 6x makes about 18,000LUX at one meter. Its supposed to be loosely equivalent to a 1k tungsten.

Q: 7. Is there a a soft box that fits this light? The Litepanel DoPchoice soft box does not fit correctly. It only fits the thinner Litepanels

A: They are so soft by themselves, I never have needed or even worried about it needing more. It is super bright, and it rolls down to a true 1%-and no blinking or strobing ant any setting. We lit an entire room by pointing them up to the 18ft ceiling and not one shadow to be found. They are ready to go, easy to handle, silent, ..best lights I have ever used..if you have more of a tech or spec question, please hit me back.

Q: 8. I asked the question about the light not turning on. THank you for your responses, not helpful yet. When I turn on the light, there's a surging sound when i stand close to it. Like it's struggling to power up. Any thoughts?

A: I would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly for trouble shooting. Please see the contact information below. Telephone: (800) 541-1667 E-mail: servicesupport@vitecgroup.com

[105 W ] The world of lights has changed so much since I first rented Litepanels (the originator of the panel LED) 5 years ago. Since then I've rented or purchased just about every panel LED from pro to budget and I always come back to LitePanels. Sure there are cheaper options and everyone's needs are unique to their situation as will be their light choices. For me, for my small studio needs, nothing matches the build quality, light quality, brightness and overall feel and texture of these lights. I love em and they work best for me. Your mileage my vary. With the Astra Soft Bi-Color, I have never needed a softbox addition and at full brightness, it works great as a key for closeups. My 2nd Astra Soft works well as a fill at 1/4 brightness and I have a couple of budget lights for hair and edge lights. This combination just works.

[105 W ] I bought 4 of the Astra Softs and have been using them daily for the past 4 months. The light output is great and the built in diffusion is perfect for the type of work I do which is mostly interviews and product videos.

However, having read so many reviews about the quality control/power issues with the Astra series has me constantly on edge. I always turn the output down before powering on and off to avoid the issue that so many other owners have experienced. This can be quite annoying since the output is just a knob and is not tied to an LED or graphical indicator. So if your previous shot was at say, 79% and you dial it down to 0 between shots you'll never really get it back exactly.

The same holds true for the color temperature. The color rendering is excellent, but if I'm at a setting somewhere between tungsten and daylight, it would be nice to have an actual readout of the value. The only indication are preset color temp numbers along the ring making it difficult to set all 4 lights to the exact same value.

These aren't deal breakers and I knew this before I bought them. I'm just reporting back my feelings after 4 months of use in the field. (I have countless other bi-color LEDs that have digital displays which cost less than half of the Astra Soft).

I gave the lights a 5 star review but in actuality, I'd rate them a 4.5. Add a digital readout and then definitely a solid 5+.

[11.5 lb] I needed something that was powerful to light up large rooms, light enough to move around with the capability of using battery if need be and these lights checked all the boxes. I purchased 3 of them and was super impressed with how much they can light up a room. We purchased the soft box with it and I highly recommend doing that, because they are super strong and having that diffusion helps. I highly recommend these lights to anyone.

[105 W ] I own or have owned every light known to man. (ok, slight exaggeration). I currently have the Gemini Soft, Gemini Hard. and Kino Freestyle LEDs of a variety of sizes. Never mind Apurtures and Nanlites plus a few of them lightweight flexible led panels. But when I need a fast and simple setup, I always got back to these Astra Softs. And when I look at the image, I wonder why I went and bought all those other expensive fixtures. Just today I shot a multicamera interview for ABC's new show Impact with the U.S Attorney investigating the Matthew Perry case and because going thru security was so complicated and time was of essence, I chose to bring these lights instead. I loved the picture to much I wondered to myself why I keep buying these way more expensive fancy lights. And the beauty of these is that I can fly them with a micro 150 battery and because I rarely have to turn them up all the way, they will last the length of some of these long interviews no problem. I did notice on this thread some folks complaining about these lights failing them, and have heard similar complaints from other Astras too. I have never had any issues with these or my other Astras, but that's likely because I read the instructions that clearly state you should dim the lights all the way down before you turn them on, wait until the flashing green light stops flashing, and then dim up at your heart's desire. And always before I turn them off, I dim them down all the way, as not to forget. That might be the secret. I see people using them wrong all over the place.

[94°] After owning AND using these lights since 2019, I am finally providing my review. When I purchased and built my 3-light kit, there were several reviews that stated issues with the LEDs going dark or lights not working properly. I haven’t had any of these issues with any of my lights; all LEDs are lighting properly.

I have used these lights for many different projects including documentary, news and indie films. Pros: Work great outdoors with daylight and sunlight; on-board battery will keep it going for 1 hour 15 minutes (when fully charged and light set at maximum power). Cons: not exactly compact; accessories such as soft boxes and egg crates are expensive and not fast to set up.

Overall I do recommend this light if you are needing something to work with natural daylight and want something that will last for years to come.
