Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the differences between this, the Retro 400s, vs the RPX 400?

A: The main difference is, Rollei Retro 400S Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) is more sensitive to Infrared light. But in most uses you will not see the difference.

Q: 2. My camera does not have ISO 80 as an option. I'm shooting with the Minolta XE-5 which goes right from 60 to 125. Whats an ideal way to handle this situation if I want to experiment with this film?

A: Your camera does have the option of selecting ISO 80. You are looking at the shutter-speed dial. Consult your user's manual to find how to select the ISO.

Q: 3. What's the difference between rpx25 and rollei pan25 that was discontinued a few years ago?

A: It doesn't seem to be any difference as far as I can tell. There is no information online and after shooting both, there is no significant differences in the look.

Q: 4. How would exposure & auto-metering be affected if used with a 720 nm filter over a flash head?

A: The exposure would be cut down by quite a bit. It doesn't make sense to shoot in auto. You will have to shoot in manual mode and test by trial and error

Q: 5. Is there still a defect with the 120 format? There has been an issue with a defective backing

A: The defective paper issue with the Rollei Retro 80S Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film) was resolved sometime in 2021. Our current films are not showing any paper defect.

Q: 6. expired date?

A: This film is fresh dated, at least a year.

Q: 7. Would anyone compare this with the late Agfapan 25 (APX 25)? Also, how well does this film do when processed with Rodinal/Adinal?

A: The film is very much like the old Agfapan 25. The film reacts about the same way to developers like Agfapan did.

Q: 8. The specs say this film has "Extended Infrared Sensitivity". Can you tell me what the wavelength cuttoff is at the upper end? How far into the IR spectrum does this go?

A: Spectral sensitization 380 - 730nm

Q: 9. Will it work for a Polaroid 80A

A: Rollei Retro 80S Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film) is incompatible with the POLAROID Land Camera MODEL 80A unless the camera is converted to use 120 film. The camera used old Polaroid roll film, long out of production.

Q: 10. Is this film useable with a B+W 093 IR filter? What ISO would I set on my meter?

A: Yes you can use the B+W -93 IR filter with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film (120 Roll Film, Boxed). Note, results can vary.

[0.08 lb] One of my most favorite black-and-white films! Captures the essence of architecture and urban landscapes with remarkable clarity. I achieve consistently stable outcomes with this film. The processed negatives come out absolutely clean, with stunning sharpness that, for me, makes them ideal for further digital processing. Fine details and contrast!

[2.9 x 1.2 x 1"] Retro 80S is very fine grain and has a wide latitude.  It also seems to go a little into the infrared zone.  It reminds me of the old Plus X.  Ive been slitting it to use in my Minox, and its much better than the Ilford Delta 100 I was using previously.
Great Stuff!  Photo is a 5X7 from Minox.

[120] This stuff is great. Worked well in my 70 year old Ihagee Exa. Developed in D76 following the instructions from Rollei and the negatives are perfect. High contrast, really sharp. Enhances contrast in cloudy skies, makes them very dramatic. Film base is nearly transparent after development.

[100.0 µm] I've been using this film for several years by now. I've decided to make it the only film I'll use. It's less expensive than FP4 or Agfa APX 100. It yields finer grain than it's box rating would lead you to expect. I love the contrast it gives me, which I assume results for an s-shaped characteristic curve. Better results when cropping and more dramatic photos. This seems to make it less forgiving of slight errors in exposure. It has a transparent base and lays flat on a scanner. I use Rodinal (1:50)@50 ISO.

[120] This film has fine grain and yields smooth skin tones with good latitude in the highlights. The thin film base is a help when scanning.
