Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I develop 40 year old color negatives with this kit?

A: If the film is color negative c-41 film, yes you can use CineStill Film Cs41 Powder Developing Kit for C-41 Color Film to process it. Note after 40 years the latent image will be some what corrupted.

Q: 2. Do I have to use all of it at once, or can I only make however much I need at a time?

A: Yes, all stock must be used on the CineStill Film Cs41 Powder Developing Kit for C-41 Color Film at once.

Q: 3. has anyone mixed small amounts at a time like 500ml or 1000ml? to keep the concentrates longer and only make working solutions for what you need when you need.

A: You should have no issue making smaller amounts. This is sized for large amounts of film developing but can do small as well.

Q: 4. can I use this kit to do a Cross Processing on slide films?

A: You could take an E6 film and cross process it with this C41 kit. The issue is that cross processing is all about trial and error and be open to see what happens. We cannot guarantee what results you will have, but it is a fun process to use. If you are open to wild and unpredictable results and are interested in DIY it would be something fun to try.

Q: 5. How to mix 1 gallon out of this? Shall i buy 3 kits and mix it separately ?

A: The CineStill Film Cs41 Powder Developing Kit for C-41 Color Film is designed to create 33.8 fluid ounces. One US gallon would be equal to 128 US fluid ounces. As such, if you need one (1) gallon, I would recommend purchasing four (4) of the above powder developing kits. This would give you a total of 135.2 US fluid ounces, which would be slightly more than one US gallon.

Q: 6. Can you reuse all of the chemicals? if so, how many 35mm roles?

A: Please take a look in this linked pdf below in the second page under Solution Capacities and More Chemistry Capacity as it explains that. https://bit.ly/3d00fFe

Q: 7. What's the best way to store already mixed solutions to prolong its use?

A: In dark chemistry bottles, such as the ones listed below; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=storage%20bottles&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma

Q: 8. If I'm working with expired 120 film, will the developing times change?

A: Typically not, maybe if any a little more time but its best to run a test roll to see where you stand.

Q: 9. How many sheets of 4x5 film can be processed, loaded in a Combi-Plan T daylight tank?

A: About 25 ~ 30 sheets 4X5 film depending on dev time, temp etc.

Q: 10. Hi there. If my Cinestill pack got hot in the mail are the chemicals still usable? Thanks!

A: They should be fine, powder is much more resilient than liquid.

[2.125 lb] Fast shipping, good tracking. The chemicals arrived in good shape and after following the instructions exactly (used a hot water bath without any suis vide) developed film almost perfectly. Extremely happy with the way it turned out and will be buying again!

[2.125 lb] I have never developed my own film before and decided to use this C-41 as it was the cheapest reputable brand that would arrive quickly. It was easy to make. It also yielded amazing results with my 35mm film. I will definitely buy this again!

[2.125 lb] Haven't self devoloped with anything else. But this seems to have good economy for the number of rolls. I seem to be able to develop around 20 rolls over the course of a few months before the colors aren't as nice.

[2.125 lb] So far I've run tests with both 35mm and 120 Ilford XP2 Super. The tests were great. I've scanned the film with both Nikon and Epson scanners and the end results are all just fine. I've not yet tried color film with it. The only slight down side is just how easy it is to pick up dust in the processing if you are running this in a bathroom rather than a proper darkroom. As I'm scanning my film and plan to print digitally it's easy enough to clean this up with the digital ICE filter.
