Telephoto zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount DSLRs, however is also compatible with DX models where it will provide a 105-450mm equivalent focal length range.

One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

AF-P pulse motor uses stepping motors to deliver impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Vibration Reduction image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 4.5 stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is this lens different than it's predecessor?

A: This newer lens is significantly faster in autofocus, contains quieter motor drives and a little more sharpness in the edges.

Q: 2. Has anyone used this lens on Z6/7 cameras? How does the AF perform there? Thanks.

A: With the FTZ adapter this lens works well on both cameras.

Q: 3. Does this lens work with a D7200?

A: Yes this lens is compatible with the Nikon D7200.

Q: 4. Will this lens fully compatible with the D700 ?

A: No, the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens is not compatible for use with the Nikon D700 DSLR camera. The above lens uses Nikon's new AF-P Pulse motor, which is not compatible for use with older Nikon cameras and which will not allow the lens to adjust aperture or focus (neither autofocus or manual focus) when connected to the Nikon D700 DSLR camera.

Q: 5. Is there a tripod mount ring or other mounting method that allows for portrait orientation, too?

A: Unfortunately, there is no tripod collar for this particular lens.

Q: 6. How does this compare to the 28-300 (non-DX) in sharpness and color???....looking for a light zoom to use for travel vs. hauling 2.8's

A: The color and sharpness of the 28-300mm is excellent, the color and sharpness of the 70-300mm is even better, perhaps outstanding. As with any lens being considered for an "everything travel lens" you have to sacrifice something, there is no getting around it. If you are picky about the image, the 70-300mm is the choice. If you are going to be casual about your shooting then the one that makes sense is the 28-300mm.

Q: 7. Is this lens compatible with Nikon F6?

A: Yes, this lens will function on the Nikon F6 but will be limited to the camera's motor speeds.

Q: 8. does the lens come with a hood?

A: Yes, it does! And with a lens pouch / protective sleeve...

Q: 9. Will this work with a D5000 camera?

A: Unfortunately, this lens will not be compatible with a Nikon D5000 since it is a Nikon AF-P lens.

Q: 10. The AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR is compatible w/ the DX format, correct? How does the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR compare to the AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED lens that comes with the D3500 2 lens kit? Is it worth the upgrade? Primarily used for outdoor sports photography

A: The G-ED version does not have these features: Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism providing greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm which promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. As well as being one half stop less bright at the telephoto end.

[0.25x] Camera D7200. My purpose for this lens was to get action shots of RC Racing for our website and Facebook. A difficult task as these cars are very fast and small. The cars do 20 to 40 mph and are around 20 in length and the distance of the shoot is 20 to 50 feet. 300mm was just about right anything less would not have worked well. I only had the lens for a couple days so I stuck with auto settings. The auto focus was fast enough to keep the subjects sharp. Im sure that more practice will improve the results. Also thanks to B&H for their advice and support.

[70 to 300mm] My wife and I love nature photography . Birds are everywhere in South Carolina low country in the Spring, where we stayed because of the covid19 restrictions where we live. I have an excellent 80-400mm Nikon lens, but it can be heavy when going on trails. So looking at the reviews, I decided to buy this new 70-300 mm. My first copy (bought at Crutchfield as BH was closed for Passover) was clearly defective (autofocus slow and inconsistent , resulting in lots of blurred pictures) and I returned it. I received this copy from BH two weeks ago, and I tested it in lots of different places and conditions: flying birds; at sunset; in shaded areas; photos far and close; etc. What I found surprised me. While being way cheaper than the 80-400mm, pictures are as crisp and sharp; and the autofocus is very good, resulting in good pictures of birds in flight. Even pictures far away and at Max aperture at 300 mm were quite sharp (a problem with the 80-400mm lens). And it is very light, making it a very versatile lens. Construction does seem less sturdy, but still quite solid. So the only issue is whether it will last as long as my other Nikon lenses, but overall a pretty solid and excellent lens.

[f/32 to 40] I tried it on my Z6 (with the adapter) and was impressed by the image quality. It is definitely going to rejoin the Z6 in my lighter weight travel kit.

[f/32 to 40] Fast accurate focus, sharp as a tack, every Nikon shooter should have this lens in their bag.  I have had several 70-300 lens over the years both Nikon and other brands and this is the best one by far.

[Autofocus] Have it for few months now and very pleased with results, had to practice and play with settings for a while to understand how to focus better.Surely need longer lens quite often though, but the weigh scares me a bit. Will be at least 1.2 kg more...
