Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a Rode PSA-1 mic boom? I was hoping it was a little more substantial than some of the other low-end shock mounts.

A: This mount will connect to the Rode PSA1. It will require the 3/8 to 5/8'' adapter that was included with the PSA1. If you do not have that adapter, here's one you can purchase: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083040-REG/auray_ad_combo_b_5_8_to_3_8.html.

Q: 2. Do you know what is 6 ft., Microphone Cable ?

A: Audio-Technica AT8314 Premium Microphone Cable - 6' (1.83m) B&H # AUAT83146

Q: 3. Will a AT4033a microphone fit on this shockmount?

A: No this shock mount was design to fit handheld and shotgun microphones, the AT4033a is a recording microphone and it will fit better on the shock mount in the link bellow. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1352188-REG/audio_technica_at8449a_shockmount.html

Q: 4. I need to set up Shure SM57 mic on the top of upright piano using a small tripod mic stand (Ultimate Support JS-KD55 - Angle-Adjustable Kick Drum/Guitar Amp Mic Stand) to record piano playing. Would SM57 fit to this sockmount? And, would this shockmount fit to the stand mentioned above? Further more, would this set be ok for recording upright piano? I am just net very experienced with this, and my piano is not positioned for the usual boom stand. kind regards, Jon

A: The 57s diameter is probably too large for that mount.

Q: 5. What does it come with does it connect to whatever speaker or mixer is it wireless and does it come with the body pack and all that or what?

A: The AT8418 is a mount that allows you to position certain Audio-Technica microphones, which are sold separately, on to a musical instrument.

Q: 6. What does wired for low impedance mean? Are these wired out of phase? Please explain what wired for low impedance microphone means.

A: The cable in question is a standard mic cable. Low impedance alias lo-Z means it is a balanced load cable. There are 3 wires -- send, return, and ground. The connectors are the XLR type on both ends. All decent audio mics are balanced, lo-Z. Some are dynamic and some are condenser. Both use 3 wire. It is possible to get a cable that has a male TRS phono jack on the amp side, but most have a male XLR, just like the 3 prongs on the butt of your microphone. Balanced loads can travel long distances without losing signal. Unbalanced (2 wire) loads degrade after 10feet or so. Guitar cables are unbalanced in the typical case -- return wire acts as ground shield. Only the cheapest mics are unbalanced anymore. For more info, visit Wikipedia.

Q: 7. To clip it on your eyeglass arm as a boom aimed at your mouth, would it pull too much on one's plastic eyeglass frame to be able to walk while wearing it?

A: That would not work well that way.

Q: 8. What Country is this microphone made in?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Japan. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 9. I notice a lot of details talking about a battery powered phantom source, but perhaps that this one is not the version that works with a battery? Does this have a battery phantom source, or is there another model that does? This is the only gooseneck that comes up under the battery powered search filter.

A: We use this mic with a wireless mic base unit that is part of System10 from Audio-Technica. The mic base is the phantom p/s. The combination provides good and clear service for our needs. We use it as a podium mic.

Q: 10. If I'm going from a soundboard to a XLR input on a camera can I use these cables and do I have to worry about impedance? There were a note that these are low impedance cable.. Thanks!!

A: This cables native impedance will be suitable for your application. There are no impedance issues.

[Neutrik] Some say a cable does not make a difference! Wrong. An audio engineer, not a salesman, reccomended I use Audio Technica Microphone cables, because they go the extra mile to add sheilding, even more expensive cables do not. The result, a quieter, cleaner signal, with no buzz or hum. I have some of the more expensive brand cables, and these are an equal build, with Neutrik connectors and boost the gain, even on dynamic mics, I would estimate 2 to 3db, quietly. A must for Voice Over recording. I have a box full of noisy cables from a budget company, going into the garbage as we speak. Half the price of some other cables, from a name you can trust, you can't go wrong.

[Black] I have an inexpensive mic snake I use in the studio that so far has been noise free. When I want to be 100% sure, on vocals for example, I will use this cable to get the vocal mic into the recording interface (Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56) in the next room. Great quality and good shielding on this XLR cable.
